I share your pain! Really miss having a garage. TDI? Don't think I could ever go ahead with one of those, despite the insane torque curve. TSI though, in a Corrado sprayed Oak Green... hmm 8) Thanks Hasan, let me know a little in advance if you can so that I can bring the C in :) Nick

CCGB National Day 2014 - all the Details
n3p replied to Tempest's topic in Event Announcements & Discussion
Damn... wish I could have done that! Especially next to Clumpy :norty: btw Sean, I had a good look around your motor at the show - really is very nice and all of the hard work has paid off! -
So much remains on my list of things to do... Don't think I'll ever finish! But an SQS Gear set in the winter is the main priority, then new rear brakes (was thinking Mk4 but will see if Tarox do anything matching), paintwork, more trimming and some tidying up in general. The engine bay needs a lot of attention too, but in order to do a proper job it would all have to come out. Don't think I'd have the balls to do that any time soon! (especially as I don't have a garage) I really like those Oettinger wheels actually, had never seen or heard of them before so was pleasantly surprised. The car they're on has some really nice touches too and IMO was very under rated. Can't thank you enough Kev for all of your help and advice when going turbo - I think I'll keep my eyes peeled for a mint Ice grey one for you ;) Go TFSI though, that way I can draw upon your expertise if I ever decide to do another Corrado project ;) Thanks a lot Chris, I actually think your car was much more worthy than mine - the attention to detail is unreal. I felt embarrassed when I was being asked to pop my bonnet as you were parked right next to me, looking fresher than how it came out of the factory 8) And, any excuse to take the car out for a blast! Call shotgun next time I see you 8) There's room for 1 more in the back too :norty: Nick

Also, bonus pic I took off my phone. Sorry about the blur!

Wow, thank you all for your kind words - it may not be concours, but I'm glad you like the car :). I almost didn't go to the national day as my father sadly passed away a couple of weeks ago, but I'm glad I decided to suck it up and get buffing! Still very shocked that I won, didn't expect to even be in contention... Chris/Matt it was my pleasure to take you for a spin in it - I hope that the turbo didn't disappoint! Mic - nothing removed, just silly tyres  Also, went to Motorsport at Palace today. Unfortunately I didn't stay too long as I was still pretty tired from the National Day, and the fact that there was a lot of rain which affected the attendance - was all a bit quiet really. Still, I enjoyed catching up with some others and thanks to Ron for organising. Couple of snaps, and some non corrado content!: And something a bit different. Actually quite refreshing to see the 90s style look now! I didn't spot the owner to ask what those turbines were. Surely not turbos?! Nick

Separate to the national day thread, some pics of mine from the show. Managed to fit the Recaros in yesterday after getting them back from the trimmer. Still think they padded too much just below the headrest but they have grown on me. And yes, I need new mats! Very surprised to have won a trophy too, even with my amber indicators!

CCGB National Day 2014 - all the Details
n3p replied to Tempest's topic in Event Announcements & Discussion
Absolutely shattered after a long day. Always nice to meet new people and catch up with old acquaintances. Some very very nice cars today, and an interesting venue. I was (and still am) genuinely shocked at winning a trophy though - I really don't think I deserved it, but I am also very grateful to all of you nutters who voted for me! congrats to ChrisL too :salute: that engine bay! Nick Ps Here are some photos... -

Does Cobham mean you have to go out of your way to meet us Darren? (Ie anti clockwise first) because if so we can meet you a bit further up? Flexible on times, what's good for you? (and Ben aka Billzeebub) Surely there are more people from the south coming? :norty: -

Please Help Vr6 turbo or Vr6 supercharged Views
n3p replied to hutchison1985's topic in General Car Chat
If it's low down grunt you want then a turbo is the way forward. The G-Lader is a scroll type, whereas the VR options (Vortech/Rotrex) are centrifugal. As mentioned, the charger is all top end power and IMO made the lower end a lot worse than standard (with my Vortech anyway - Rotrex are meant to be a lot better). Just seemed to lose urgency. 300bhp with a supercharger sounds impressive on paper, but the reality is that it doesn't really feel that fast until you're high up in the revs, at which point the party is over as you hit the red line. They don't give particularly impressive torque gains either. Also, I found heat to be a major problem and was constantly worried about things melting or going pop under the bonnet. Some guys here prefer chargers though, as it's more in keeping with a Standard VR's power delivery. I've attached some pics which show dyno plots of my turbo vs supercharger - think that's all you need to see :) (both mapped and tested at Stealth Racing) As for budget, yep as mentioned £2k will get you charged (if you fit it yourself), but if I were you I'd put that money towards a turbo conversion. There's a reason why quite a few guys have moved on to a turbo from a charger. People told me the same as I'm telling you and I charged it anyway - big (expensive) mistake! Hope this helps -

Had both, turbo wins every time. Can explain in more detail tomorrow if nobody else does but just about to head out! -
Need one too incidentally (passenger side) but would take a pair. If anyone wants to bring one to the National Day I'll take it :)

National Day Convoy - South/London/M1
n3p replied to n3p's topic in Event Announcements & Discussion
Excellent :thumbleft: Hopefully you will, should have some times arranged later this week (and hopefully some more cars - the more the merrier!) -
Anyone up for a convoy up to the National Day this Sunday? Always makes a long, boring journey more fun when you're playing with a few other Corrados :norty: Bruntingthorpe (LE17 5QS) is (according to Google) off J20 of the M1, so it would be good for anyone travelling up to meet along the way. I will be picking up a friend, then travelling from M25 J6, so driving from there to the M1 junction (M25 J21) and straight up. I was thinking to get there for around 08:30 +/- 30 minutes, so we'd have to meet early (but I am flexible and can go earlier or later if needed). List of potential meet points are: M25 Cobham Services (near J10) - If anyone is coming via the M25 M1 Premier Inn Luton (J9) - same as Stanford Hall convoy last year M1 Toddington Services (J11-12) M1 Newport Pagnell (J14-15) M1 Northampton Services (J15-15A) M1 Watford Gap (J16-17) Personally I think the Premier Inn Luton worked well last year, as people coming from the M3, M4 and M25 anti clockwise can all meet here with ease. The services further up the M1 could be further meeting points for others from around that way, but we should put it to a vote. Also, if the M1 isn't ideal for some or if there is a better way that I don't know then please speak out and I'll follow the crowd. Thoughts? Times? Nick

Looks like a great example and I'm envious of the mileage! Hopefully catch up with you at some point this year Nick
-
My MFA tells me I'm getting around 60mpg on the motorway. Ignorance is bliss 8)
-
Nice car. That plug looks a lot like one for the 4" dash speakers but I can't be certain
-
Doubt his brakes would fit under speedlines!
-
Best wheel you can get for the C ;) Looks superb. Which tyres did you go for in the end? Nick
-
Depends on how low you are, if you're willing to run a stretch on your tyre, or have your arches modified (rolled/flared). I think you may be able to get an extra 1/2" on the rear but personally I would just get a set of stainless/radinox in the original fitment all round

Assuming that you had the fault cleared and it's come back, then I think that code points out a sticky valve in the pump. You could try flushing the system, but before/after you could rag the t*ts off the car, triggering the "ABS" a few times to see if it can free up anything. Failing that you may need a new pump. Don't get a new one from VW though as you'll need to have a stiff drink after they tell you the price! (they can be had fairly cheap from people breaking here) One thing that I did find was that if you buy another pump you can plug just the connector in before anything else to see if it makes the light operate as normal. Didn't think it would until I tried it! A bit tight to squeeze another pump in the bay to reach the connector, but it can be done. Good luck!

You could check the ABS ECU and see if it is water damaged, only takes a couple of minutes to remove
-
Flawless! Wanna swap? ;)

Thanks for the detailed reply, I did think it sounded too good to be true. I didn't even think you had to notify the DVLA of a turbo. May well have to now in order to keep everything above board. Re. the visual inspection of a cat, I've read varying opinions and apparently the law changed in 2012 stating that a cat needs to be present. How true that is I don't know, but I have my MOT booked later today so I'll find out :)
