sounds exactly like what happened to me and that head gasket is pretty much exactly how i found mine!!!
-
Perhaps a bit of both the battery and alternator. If you have another battery to try I would give it a go, it may be the case that the alternator has packed up and the battery isnt getting charged. you could try taking your battery out charging it and then trying it again to see what happens

Just wondering if anyone knows of someone that would be able to sort out wiring on a 2.0 litre 16v engine. My friend has got a mk1 golf clipper and he has put the 2 litre block in and as he has had nothing but problems with his carbs on the old engine he has decided to go for injection. Does anyone know firstly of anyone that would be able to do this and secondly how much it would cost. Cheers.

Welcome to the KR headgasket club lol. Replaced mine 2 months ago and it went in a big way yesterday, think the head has cracked though so bit of a bigger job than yours unfortunately. You will need new stretch bolts and head gasket set of course, perhaps consider getting the head skimmed while its off and perhaps even get it ported, Valve stem oil seals? they are a bitch to do but well worth doing while the head is off. I would advise to have a haynes for a golf with same engine as that was quite helpful when i was doing mine. Good luck to you anyway!!

Yea they do look pretty good, does anyone use a PDA? And what is there out there for updates because i dont want to be paying a fortune on updating them after i buy the thing.

Preferably both together. More interested in sat nav but would like it to do everything and be able to update it

Right basically im looking for some sort of GPS or radar detector for the rado. Just started a new job so may be travelling some far places and i cant be bothered getting lost. Im just wondering if anyone has any advice on the best out there. looking to spend between 100-200pound so think anything considered. Iv thought about a PDA but not sure on the deals out there and where to start looking, would like something that would alert me about camera locations etc. Any advice much appreciated!! thanks

When you say the vacuum pump is working do you mean the passenger side door, boot and petrol flap locks? Does the door lock with the key? I could spend about 30 mins explaining whats wrong as I've had the same problem. Check the wires coming off the door handle make sure they are still intact and make sure the vacuum pipe is not corroded because it will just sound like vacuum is working but instead just sucking air into the system.

Not sure if this is a daft question or not but is the adjustable ignition barrel and housing the same as the non adjustable? Just thinking its only going to be the plastic that is different and cant really see why the ignition housing would be seeing as it clamps onto the same part
-
I got my car broke into the other day and all the ignition torn apart but thankfully the car was not stolen and nothing taken which is very concerning. I am now looking for a new ignition barrel and housing including the steering lock etc but mine does not have the adjustable steering column. How easy is it to convert into an adjustable steering column as parts for these are easier to come across and also are any of the ignition parts different between the two types? Thanks alot

Right, just put my C through its first MOT as me as the owner, not suprisingly it failed first time with replacement brake lines, windscreen wipers, steering rack gator a bit poorly which i fixed. This was late in september, so within the 10 days i take it back (today) and had it retested. My dad (who took the car in) then got a phone call half way through the day as he knows the people in the garage saying it had failed MOT...... because the previous owner had put a silly vw badge on the number plate. Apparently on the 1st of ****in October some clever sod has decided a number plate can fail MOT so iv had to fork out 23quid because some tosser doesnt like the look of my number plate, if it had passed first time it would have been no problem. Is it just me that thinks terrorism and all that isnt the reason society is falling apart???

Hey, im experiencing the exact same problem with the front shocks. its like its not tightening properly. been considering cutting the top cap and welding it a bit shallower so it tightens up. What is the correct way of doing it? i can take pics if neccessary. Cheers
-
Ar rite, you wouldnt happen to have a diagram or some sorts that has the product code on it?
-
Right, I've just bought a set of second hand coilovers which are all fine and working great, fitted them today using the same topcap and rubber bung off my previous shocks (the front set) but now the top doesnt tighten up properly so theres a gap between the topcap and the bulkhead. Iv tried everything, the only thing i can think of is that the sunken part in the topcap is sunk too far or the rubber bung has worn and now is sitting too high up in the bulkhead. Has anyone else had this sort of problem before? I have a 1989 1.8 16v and the coilovers came off an early spec g60 i believe. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers

arnt the engines supposed to run 136bhp standard anyway?
-
Right, firstly i apologise if this has been covered before but i had a look and couldnt find anything so here goes. I currently have a 1.8 16v and have been told that if i put the 2.0 litre bottom end in it will straight away increase the bhp to 160-170bhp. Is this correct or am i being told fibs? Im wanting to get my car running a little more bhp without spending a fortune at the moment. Cheers
-
Well iv just done a head gasket on my 1.8 16v, i know the vr6s are alot more complicated but if you search around and do it yourself it might be cheaper than you think. I got a full head gasket set off ebay for £45 and the head skimmed and crack tested for £75 and then its just a case of cleaning it up and timing everything up. I would advise to research thoroughly before doing it or to get a mechanic friend to help you out so theres no bent valves or anything. good luck with it though!!

Right, im wondering if anyone has or knows where I can get a central locking wiring diagram with pictures. I have a haynes manual but its being no help really because they guy i bought my car off has taken an alarm off and looks to have removed it with garden shears!! Any help would be much appreciated.
-
O..... i just further inspected the cap and there are traces of the O ring but nothing left. but it still overheats with the cap off.. im going to have a go at getting the air lock out tomorrow but thanks for the advice

Right, iv just replaced the headgasket on my corrado 1.8 16v. put it all back together, let it run for a while and all of a sudden the water bottle on the right hand side of the engine bay started bellowing with steam and water overflowing. Does anyone have any idea why its doing this? I have just put a new thermostat in today to try that but no luck. I bought the car with a start button on because the ignition doesnt work, i have heard this could possibly cause a problem. Any help would be much appreciated.

hey i've been on there and had a look all over. it might just be right under my nose but it tells me all about installation etc but not if it is compatible with the my car. Sorry, i have a 1990 version as well. i believe the clocks are different to the newer versions
-
Sorry, im new to this forum and hope i arnt totally reposting or asking a stupid question but im looking at getting the DDI clocks for my corrado but its a 1.8 16v, can you fit them to this or is it just to the vr6s and the g60s? thanks
