The terrifying sump situation!!! Forge intercooler which unlike the one I found fitted!
-
Kaz put me onto South West In Car Tech in Bristol and the car was booked in the next week for the conversion. During that week I found a k03s turbo, bmc cda and an intercooler that didnt fit! Heres the two week build.

Well that was how it stood just before christmas. I was chuffed to bits with it. Plenty quick enough and the body was almost 100% showroom standard. All I was going to do was rebuild the charger, 68mm pulley and chip, fmic, lower it a tiny bit more and enjoy... ...BUT! After a little ''spirited'' driving listening to my new exhaust the car was seriously upset with me, took it to a local garage and was basically told the bottom end was dead and it would make more sense to fit a new engine. :( I thought long and hard trying to figure out what to do. Test drove a TT and quite liked it but in the end I couldn't get rid of the Rado. Then Kaz advertised a 1.8t engine on here and the rest... well, b*****ks to TT's!

Then I got an ebay bargain 2 ltr 16v magnex exhaust (big old bodge job to fit!!!) Sorted out camber, alignment and lowered it further. Along with some mk3 colour concept recaros (black and red)

After having both cars for ages everyone finally convinced me to sell the old 16v. So to get over this I bought some bbs rm's and made them up with some 2.5 dishes. Stuck them on and put the D90's back on the valver as the buyer wanted them. Pics from the day I sold the 16v :(
-
Drove it around like that for as long as I could stand. Then had enough and started ploughing cash into it! Fitted an original bumper Swapped my fk coilovers from the 16v Swapped the D90s over Made a badgeless grill

It was owned by a panel beater and had been resprayed fiat new orleans blue a year before I got it. Looking back on it now I cant belive I actually bought it! The spec when I got it. Supercharger rebuild twice in 100000 miles Raceland exhaust manifold Induction kit Nasty coilovers Nasty wheels Nasty bumper Black leather interior

I got sick of people asking me if this was a G60 so when one turned up locally to me I went to have a look... which turned into me buying it!

For an extra fiver you should get some Borbets instead. I prefer the carmonas to be honest. Do wonder if the quality is as high though?
-
Been told that the 20vt engine being fitted sits with room for a tennis ball between the sump and road!!! Ideally I'd have liked to lower the car more with the 15inch rms. So to get rid of arch gap I might start looking for some 16x9s. Always been fond of kerscher carmonas. I'll see what I can find.

Has anyone ever got a good finish with laquer though. I've heard it makes them dull?

:brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: :brickwall: NO MORE POLISHING!!!!! I need to run these all year!

I've put some rm's on over the winter and the dishes now look a bit gash (not stainless :( ) So I've decided to split them again but change the colours. The ideas I have so far are, Colour coded, white, gold or silver CENTRES White, cream, colour coded, gold or red DISHES. But cant seem to make my mind up. I like the Idea of colour coded centres but Its the dishes I cant settle on. I just dont want them polished anymore (too much hassle!) Then theres the bolts, what to do with them? ARRRRGH!!! Also been thinking of painting the roof white/cream, but is that just madness? :brickwall: Any suggestions welcome (apart from polishing the dishes again!)

Qpeng website has a walkthrough.
-
If they did them with a bigger dish then I would have got them. Instead I got a set of half decent rm's for 300quid and got some secondhand 2.5 inch dishes for 200. Cleaned them up and rebuilt them myself. Just got to be lucky to find the bits.

20vt Starts Tommorow!!!!! :D
-
that was my plan, i found you could fit it with the leather stopping at the bottom of handle. its just when you put handbrake down the leather bunches up and looks a bit naff Was that with the original plastic cover inside of the leather? To "stretch" it into place?
-
Has anyone thought about cutting them shorter so they dont cover the handle, then attaching them somehow so they dont slide down?
-
Dropping my car off on saturday to have the 20vt fitted, not at any of the garages listed above. Thanks though mate I'd have definaltly given them a ring otherwise.
-
Im in swanage near poole. Would be happy to help somebody just definatly wouldnt be able to do this myself (no tools, no brain!). I also thought about getting an already converted car and using it as a donor, found a rado with a 1.8t lump in it running for £3000 too! Im gonna start pricing up all the parts needed for the conversion.
-
Yeah true I've been meaning to sort that out for ages. Im in dorset, but am happy to travel (even if the cars not!)
-
Be really sure you will be able to do a good job first mate. Not doubting you but I was quoted £100 for 4 wheels resprayed or powdercoated. I've sprayed stuff myself before and spend a fortune on primer, paint, laquer only to do an iffy job which took me ages! That said when I have sprayed stuff and got it right its really satisfying. Wouldnt want to suggest any methods though as I probably go about it totally wrong! Good luck!

Well I'm keeping it. But I'm dumping the G60, Can anybody recommend any garages to carry out a 1.8t conversion. I couldnt even imagine doing it myself.
-
I've been looking into 1.8t conversions into my G60, I dont have the skill to do it myself and dont really know anybody who could do it for me so Im looking at getting it done at a garage. TSR performance are looking good if a bit pricey but it seems to be a thourugh job and replaces the gearbox (mine is s******d) http://www.tsr-performance.com/pages/transplant.asp MV Developments http://mvdevelopments.co.uk/whatwedo.html The Phirm http://www.thephirm.co.uk/Pages/Article ... onversions Storm Developments http://www.stormdevelopments.co.uk/vw-e ... rsion.html JTech http://www.jtechautomotive.co.uk/performance-tuning.htm Does anybody have any experience with any of those? Or recommendations, im down south but will travel. Other thing im wondering about is how low does the 1.8t engine sit in relation to the G60? Will I still be able run silly low or will the engine be on the floor?! Thanks, Alex
