Nice pics, looking sharp as you like 8) Is yours Satin Silver? Lovely colour whatever it is :thumb right: and good stance, I wish mine was that low :( What camera did you get?
-
Hey bro, is that the elite Nokia that takes amazing photos? You should get them up here today! 8) (PS. once you've given her a good wash, we should head up Shotover for some proper pics, especially in this bright clear weather)

You have PM. Get yourself a thread started there, and show us some pics! :thumb right: -

As the replacement bushes have metal tubes bonded into both bushes, don't use the additional sleeves - they're not necessary and will make torqueing the vertical bolts MUCH harder than it already is (which is pretty hard unless you have air tools and a proper ramp)! :offtopic1: Oops, sorry mods, got a bit carried away with this... Geoffb, do you have a Member's Gallery thread? -
Cazza's Storm- Gone :( ...S3 Has Arrived! :)
ProdigalSon replied to CazzaVR's topic in Members Gallery
Thankfully that was the Audi, although I always put copper grease on the threads every time I took the bolts out, so never had any probs 8) Good work with the rims, and even better with the offspring! :) When's your good lady due? -

IIRC, the replacement wishbones that have the bushes already in place have a metal insert in both horizontal and vertical bushes... I don't think that you need the additional longer loose metal sleeve inside the vertical bush that gets crushed into contact with both bolt and bush liner, unlike a Mk2 Golf. Or, of course, I could be talking rubbish :( at which point someone will no doubt point that out  :) -
I did try to moderate my speed as I knew it was 5C outside and your passenger window was stuck halfway down... But after the services it was game on! The only reason I didn't go mad was because I was getting very tired (it was, after all, past midnight) and my eyes were going weird :( Not a good combination for high speed driving! I am well pleased with my low end bootage, and do suspect that the car hasn't driven that well in years, probably thanks to recent exhaust, tuning, and intake improvements 8) Bro, you were slipstreaming like some kind of Nascar racer, I'm surprised you used any petrol at all  I remember thinking to my bumper on more than one occasion that if I couldn't see your headlights, you must be pretty close  Glad it held together for the long trip back, and that we sorted your window today, although I did look at my watch at 6pm this evening and think 'what happened to the day'?!

This helped me and boost monkey hugely, hope it does the same for you...

windscreen just been cracked, best replacement?
ProdigalSon replied to neil20vtc's topic in Exterior
I had mine replaced on the insurance a few weeks ago. Asked for an OE screen (Sekurit) and the insurers said yes, just had to pay my £60 excess :D The new screen came with all new-rubber trims and AutoGlass did a great job of fitting it. Looks great, especially in the early winter mornings when you normally can't see a thing for all the scratches and haze lit up by the sun... -

OK, it's not my car, but today I drilled out the rivets holding the window mech in the passenger side of boost monkey's valver, diagnosed the motor was working but the wiring was beyond hope - more barn than an Amish community  Cut a whole load of nasty bodged wiring out (which was duff and stopping the window motors from working): Bodged Relays.jpg[/attachment:12kh60co] then with the monkey's help, I greased and reassembled the window mech, re-riveted it up, powered the motor to wind the window up fully, refitted the door card etc. Will return to sort out the loom another day. A good day of electro-mechanical discovery without the worry of breaking my car  Got some more pics for your Project Plum thread bro, you have PM  -
which socket to get spark plugs out of a KR?
ProdigalSon replied to boost monkey's topic in Engine Bay
Yes, the magnetic insert in the end was fouling on the upper part of the sparkplug, so that it wouldn't fit completely inside and hence the drive faces wouldn't reach the hexagonal 'nut' at the base of the spark plug :x -
From my side, big thanks to the following people: Yandards for awesomely useful electrical diagrams and experience CorradoVR6-n.o.s for ETKA(?) cam belt timing diagrams White2505 for a detailed engine wiring description that helped us to eliminate mistakes there And I'm sure boost monkey (Jon) will give a shout to anyone I missed  Even though you may not have been aware that you were helping, your knowledge was incredibly valuable, without it we wouldn't have been to get this car sorted! :thumb right:  :salute: :notworthy:

I'm feeling a bit fatigued myself  Will have to write up today's adventures soon, eh? Glad to have got it running, never has an engine idle sounded so smooth :D Although we did have to check/change everything (at least it felt that way). Arrived at 11:20am, left at 10pm. PS. if Yan gets beer tokens, what do I get?!

Didn't have any voltmeter to hand, either analogue or digital, but you are right that an analogue meter would be much faster to react, so you probably would see a brief needle 'bump', although it might not get to the 12V mark on the scale depending on how short the electrical pulse was...

 I can just imagine a camper with its *rse up in the air and the engine being pulled out from underneath! Come on people, I know you have more craziness to share  Perhaps we should award a trophy for the most outrageous bodgery...

Nice! When we changed the suspension on my old Audi 80, we toyed with the idea of not using compressors as they were really tricky to position without fouling inside the arch, but when we realised that a loose spring could take your face off, we left them on! Bit annoying when you get everything connected up, unwind the compressor, and realise that it's wedged behind the spring *sigh*

Had an amusing idea last weekend while trying to troubleshoot bay wiring without a proper multimeter. I had a couple of 12V LEDs in the car that I haven't fitted to my headlight loom control box yet, so took one out and put it across the ISV wiring - lo and behold, it showed that the power was being switched on briefly with the ignition but was immediately switched off too. The blip was so quick that a multimeter probably would've missed it, but it was plain to see on the LED. Score 1 for the ghetto voltmeter! Any other examples of bodgetools? I know boost monkey had an awesome clutch alignment spacer...

which socket to get spark plugs out of a KR?

I have 3 different lengths of locking extension in 3/8ths drive, so if you have a 14mm socket, we're all set for Saturday... -
After my local VW dealer messed up ordering a replacement caliper last year, he gave me 5L of Synta Silver for £8! Reckon that must be cost price  More recently they've been charging around £18 with my discount... Need to work that 'guilt trip' angle again!
-
Also, have you disturbed the knock sensor? Sure it's torqued correctly? Just a wild stab in the dark!
-
OK, so it could be a map thing... Doesn't sound bad enough to be a 'limp home' state, otherwise I would advise to check the voltages/earths... *refers to useful ECU pics* 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfpg_0010.jpg[/attachment:2nwpqc9a]pg_0011.jpg[/attachment:2nwpqc9a]

Yes. The mini-meet was dependent on the Burgundy being here, and so we're scrambling to get it done asap - means that we will also have to postpone for now as we need time this weekend to get it sorted... (the reference to So'ton was because there's a guy there breaking a KR that we may need!) Missing two meets within 7 days :( Let us know about early March dates that suit you (it's your turn to come here, y'know!) Fingers crossed we'll be done and dusted long before then! :)

I also have a 68mm pulley and the SNS chip, installed by G-Werks. Love it. Recommended.

Have you ever had the fuelling properly set using an exhaust gas analyser? Have you checked that the lambda is working properly? There are about 8 different factors in getting the ECU to fuel correctly, and there are 2 to start with! My fuelling had been set a bit rich (on the CO pot) since before I bought the car, but not too obvious. However, a failing lambda probe sent it over the edge into black smoke territory! Once it was set by Daz at G-Werks it was infinitely better, but by that time the cat had died from all the excess fuel :( One new cat and lambda later, it runs like a rocket, flew through MOT emissions, and I'm getting easy 30+mpg on my 10 mile commute (was doing 17mpg for the same run when it was bad - we measured an air/fuel ratio of 10:1 on throttle and 12:1 on idle! )

I'd be up for some of that :)
