  1. Hi pete, i don't think the pic is very good, the bump stops have their bottom lip inside the boots as per normal (i think they have a little ridge specifically for this purpose?) so they're kinda sleeved up inside the boots and sticking out the top if that makes sense. Hose Update: It's the same hose as before :O so I don't have a spare (funnily enough). This time it has fatigued to failure along it's seam which is obviously the weakest part. I wonder whether the pressure in this pipe is particularly high?
  2. AVS just emailed to say my new ignition parts will be here tomorrow. Uh...:awesome:!
  3. Not this time luckily. I had just run a carload of stuff (literally - fitted my bike in the back!) over to Prod's as I'm moving in for a while before my new house is ready in Oct, and I just got back. Parked up on the drive and saw the steam - slight deja vu moment really! Popped the bonnet but the steam was still thick and I could taste it which was obviously bad, so I let it cool down. I'll go out and check on it soon. Cheers Jon, I'll try to see which hose it is and let you know if i don't have a spare :salute:
  4. after the last 2 posts, I conclude that this is not the best day I have ever had...
  5. Just blew another hose. Amidst the sweet tasting steam I can't see which one it is at the mo. :|
  6. SO unhelpful aren't they! It doesn't take 2 minutes to look up a car on ETKA, it's laid out similar to VAGCAT afaik. This is exactly why I drive 10 miles either way to the North Oxford dealership, and avoid the local one like the plague :nono:
  7. to reset the clock i'd just disconnect the battery, probably easiest/only way.
  8. sorry to hear that buddy, but this is exactly why i don't rate coilovers for road driving, especially round Ox. they're just too bumpy. Coils were originally designed for the race track. Hope you get your suspension sorted soon, boge turbos ftw!
  9. Hi guys, I'm trying to find out whether the low mileage 9A fuel pump assembly (with all the parts) is swappable for my potentially-dying KR item. I think a lot of the parts are the same, including the filter? VAGCAT seems to list K-Jetronic (KR) and KE-Motronic (9A?) parts under the same headings. Any info appreciated, Jon :salute:
  10. AVS order still hasn't arrived after a week, despite the money being taken on monday. I've emailed sales to see what's going on, normally they're so quick... :|
  11. Good updates Dec, hope you get lame ignition barrels sorted. Still haven't done my switch! :-/
  12. yeah, slider pins aren't available by themselves. you should be able to use a set from some 256s easily enough though, pretty sure they're the same and probably a little easier to find than 280s.
  13. I'm guessing handbrake mechs aren't a servicable part? I can't see how they come out of the caliper...
  14. And that's how I put suspension together  Will have to compress the springs again to get the top plates on most likely, but for now they'll do
  15. holy thread resurrection batman!!11!1!!!1einz. Yeah, it's done. But a top secret assembly on Prodigal's car...
  16. ah yeah, a spark plug spanner does fit! Well I never :D Cheers for the tip Paul.
  17. Last time we did this was on Prodigal's Audi 80. We had a proper handled 7mm allen key and a long metal sleeve over that, and then the drop-ring 22mm spanner which fit in the audi mounts properly. The Allen key was twisting really badly and I don't think i could get enough torque on a mole-gripped socket. I'm gonna try to find a 22mm socket which has flat or hex external sides.
  18. Yeah mate, the drop-ring spanner I have is too wide to get down into the cupped section where the 22mm nut is sitting! p.s. gonna change thread title now before I get flamed anymore
  19. good call :D I put the wheel hub on today, but can't get my suspension top mounts off - need to get a special 22mm socket. So will still be on old suspension but I guess I could mosey on by.
  20. Glad you got it sorted mate. I'd classify driveshafts as transmission and not suspension though. Nice to see there are still some VW garages who are happy to help at their own loss!
  21. oooh ooh, i wanna play too!
  22. Cleaned the springs and then touched up some flaky bits with the Hammerite. They'll do for the MOT :salute:
  23. Just realised the spare top mount plates (golden discs) are not the same. One is slightly dished on the underside on the central section, and the other is flat! Might be a Golf 2/Golf 3 variation. Might have to wait until I get the old shocks off to use the top plates from them. Oh, and I have spare top mount nuts, seeing as the shocks came with them :)
  24. I never found that the easy bleed systems had a top and gasket/seal which fit the brake reservoir properly. it used to just all squirt out of the lid and run down the side! Would be interested to hear which one you have used David.
  25. Just a couple of things off the top of my head, Captain Sideburns: Did you brake clean or sand the discs down before you put them on? they may well have an anti-corrosion coating on which can be similar to teflon/non-stick stuff! Not handy for brake discs when in use. ditto for the brake pads? Wouldn't have thought they'd need it, but could have a layer of something like grease on the top of the friction material. A fluid change isn't a bad idea, but you should be able to swap discs and pads without bleeding the system :-S
