Cool, thanks :D :notworthy: I'll add it to my (second) parts list.

battery repair trays!!! that makes a LOT of sense... seems like i have a s/h inner wing going spare then :brickwall: any idea on part #? can't find it under Body on VAGCAT and i'm a 'CAT whore!
-
Kurust? I'm thinking i'll have it cut out and have the one from the scrapper shell put in.We cut out the entire inner wing, and i'm hoping if i take it to a body that they would be able to weld just the battery tray section in for me. But it's down the line in the list of things to do!

anyways, back on topic. Done a few little things this afternoon: removed the rounded battery clamp bolt with bro's Erwin and found this underneath (WARNING! it ain't pretty...) 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdftray1.JPG[/attachment:39p749bm] tray2.JPG[/attachment:39p749bm] :pale: I'm hoping I will be able to sort this when I remove the front end for replacements (next few months). Replaced the clamp and rounded bolt with the one from the cut-up car  I also went and picked up a new gearchange turret top from VW as mine was smashed before I got the car so my reverse lights have never worked. Hope to fit that soon. Might even wash it before the day is out! Gorgeous weather today

We sure are :D they texted me this morning to tell me one of the parts is in, Gary doesn't contact _at all_ I like the way Dave looks like baldrick, gives him an added charm don't you think? how is your steering column issue going btw, poll?
-
i've had this in 16v engines before, but whether it's normal or not I'll leave to the experts to decide.
-
Ok, so here's the cross member before: passat climatronic wiring diags.pdfcross1.JPG[/attachment:blklhxj1] climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfcross2.JPG[/attachment:blklhxj1] and after: 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfcrossnew1.JPG[/attachment:blklhxj1] crossnew2.JPG[/attachment:blklhxj1] Came up nice! Gonna order some more bushes and bolts, then it'll be ready
-
isn't this just part of the breather system aka engine ventilation system? I don't have a Reihen, but my 16v has tons of pipes that recirculate oil vapour back into the inlet. Are you getting pools of it in the pipe or just a fine mist?
-
woah, not in my eyes then! Wonder why your insurance is going up...do you live in bosnia?
-
Me too pal, just got mine through @ £403 with no mods. Thing is ive got some sp cams to go in & ive droppd her on coilies. Im nervy about calling the usuall suspects now!! :? Brentacre don't care about coils, only engine mods, you will need to declare them but they won't put your premium up :D
-
Junkie, are you just a whipper snapper then? Faye, what did you manage to get it down to? HIC seem to do discounts for club membership, show attendance and mag subscription! didn't realise about the last two!
-
Sorry groupies, got roped into helping a uni mate into changing the suspension on his road car after his 2 cracked NS coil springs failed MOT! plus he works for the BTCC team so maybe he'll put in a good word for me :salute: 8)
-
Surely you'd take it apart yourself, or am I just TOO MUCH of an enthusiast? I'm pretty sure you just trailer them the shell and then they dip it and you trailer it home, doesn't look like a garage / restoration business to me, purely a chemical dipping plant. Ideal if you're doing a ground-up resto, not so great if you're wanting to remove a little rust on a saturday afternoon... Yeah, it is a moot point considering the Corrado has been at least partly galvanised but good to know that these things are being done at reasonable prices! Plus the video has 80s music on.
-
Watch this video, it's awesome: Embedded video of the process The guy says you can simply have your car taken back to bare metal for £700, then the added paint and curing for another £800! Seems an absolute bargain to me.
-
cross-member is coming up so nice, and i hate doing spray work. pics up tomorrow all being well.
-
btw, I got my box of "PAS Seals" today (VAG Part# 1H0498020) and it definitely has some replacement seals for internals so I'm gonna crack this rack open a bit more. Yeah, it's probably overkill (the seals are around £25 before discount) but it's all good learning experience.
-
afaik, the bolts I mentioned aren't threadlocked or anything and must surely work themselves loose over time.
-
I will ask Naboo if he has any Lotions and Potions!

Cheers matey! I am not sure what to do with the wishbone now, the closest thing we have to an angle grinder is a Dremel which has tiny discs! I have been playing with the idea of swiss cheesing the wishbone wth the drill and then cutting between the edges of the holes, therefore reducing the strain on the Dremel... could be effective... For now, I will be getting on with the cross-member which is actually looking rather good after leaving the first coat of Hammerite to dry over night. Plus I have a fair amount of uni work to be getting on with (I convince myself I can do this when the sun goes down :norty: ) I'd just like to take a couple of moments to say what a quality guy Dave @ Kidlington VW is! I just phoned him back up, as 2 parts were missing off my order (even though i checked it when I was there, oops) and the tube of steering grease which lubes up the mechanical workings of the PAS internals themselves is only available from Germany so he has ordered some for me, and also the reverse switch housing on the top of the gear change turret as I had only only 1 of 2 bits I needed. I happily drive from East Oxford up to North Oxford (past the ring road, 20ish miles round trip) to go see Dave cos he is just everything you'd want in a parts dept: helpful, chatty, willing to go the extra mile to help you out, or give you advice on parts. So helpful*! The guy I gave my order to 10 days ago was such a nonce, he didn't even bother phoning me to tell me that the grease wasn't in stock, he just left it off the order! :bad-words: Bro, I can see what you mean now! What a joker, I bet he drives a ford  :brickwall: *p.s. I'm not in love with Dave

Luckily Dave was back at the dealership, and gave me club discount after some chatting which was cool (membership is in the post I'm hoping!) Anyways, here's a quick snap of the bits: Image021.jpg[/attachment:3gahn0lv] Basically tons of steering parts (new rubber mount and holder, nuts and bolts to hold it to subframe) bolts for engine mounts I forgot to order, the brown box is full of PAS internal seals and replacement parts which look kinda interesting! Will have to see what these are at some point :D Also some misc/ bits like ARB mount holders and bolts, little things really. The tube of steering grease didn't come, so I'm gonna have to investigate and see whether that has been discontinued or whether it was just omitted from the order. :salute:
-
Have you check the bolts which hold the steering colum to the actual chassis? I think there are 4 of them.
-
Fair enough! I have no issues with factors / GSF on a whole, most of the parts i'm hoarding are non-VAG :salute:
-
Nooooooo  Get a VAG oil filter ALWAYS. The VAG one has the tiny non-return valve So has the GSF one . Really? I love the factor parts and only go to dealers when I have to, but i've been warned off factor oil filters even after using them!
-
^^^ sounds like the way to do it! the one I saw had a reasonably large bore pipe and wasn't sealed amazingly plus didn't use the brake duct, hence the noise!
-
Thanks bro! VW texted me this morning to say my massive parts list is in.... let's hope it's not too £££ eh!
