  1. They do get reasonably warm, not warm enough to crack in my engineering opinion, but perhaps if it was faulty it might hairline. the successive uses of the car/engine after that would only make the crack propogate as it would be a weakness in the manifold. Unlikely, but possible.
  2. in fact, sounds like it's wired opposite to how you would expect: turning the fan on at a LOW temperature reading from the switch. but then all the connectors are one-way fittings only so someone must have hacked away at that to connect it the wrong way round.
  3. sounds like it could be a wiring problem if you're SURE the switch is a goodun.
  4. Fair enough, I wouldn't like to even try moving a VR on my own!
  5. Are you going to check the head bolts when you get the engine off the pallet? engine stands are only like £30? :confused4:
  6. Taxi for Corradude! Been shopping on Ed38 and No Rice forums...Prodigal will be pleased with me ^_^
  7. Davidwort, that is more commonly known as the cross-member or lower cross-member hence the confusion. :salute:
  8. Also, I'm beginning to think perhaps my issues with the car not being able to pull past 5500rpm is to do with the injectors or a fuel related problem. Hmm.
  9. How badly is it leaking? A fine mist of oil is perfectly normal, anything more than that and they are actually properly leaking.
  10. Rack was sprayed today, came out quite well despite my makeshift spray booth.
  11. If you're taking off early mounts, I have a set of late mounts which I took off the scrapper shell so as the thickness of the metal wouldn't mess up the cutting blade of the saw. Think the rubbers are still good if that's any use?
  12. you get ANOTHER loan on Monday?! That's not on my schedule from the SLC...
  13. Yeah, it'll run without the charger.... you'll make about 70hp but it'll run!
  14. Evening all, They'll do bugger all mate, just get some standards. A good place to get some is VW Spares - direct link, whole set is about £40 iirc. If you simply must have some shiney shiney red ones oh so preeeettttyyyyy, then Magnecors are available here with 10% off Still £120...wtf The search is ALLLLWAAAAYYYYYSSSS your friend!! hth, Jon
  15. btw, your front end looks    cross-members both look awesome! :notworthy:
  16. imo, i wouldn't worry about numbers on a dash mate, that 70,000 mile Corrado we cut up was ROTTEN AS HELL, i mean serious rot all along the floorpan and on the rear panels, something you wouldn't expect to happen! Saying all that, it's your car and you want the numbers back so i hope you get it sorted.
  17. it was rusted together AFTER you got it back from another rebuilders? Good work for sending it to Darren, but I think you should give the original rebuilders some grief! They don't start with J and end in abba do they?
  18. Sounds like vacuum leak, check all the small pipes coming out from the airbox area, around the brake servo. An immobiliser shouldn't allow a car to start, at least the Toad ones don't, i could be wrong with the Laserline style immobs.
  19. I heard that Goldie was having a mare trying to bleed his mk4s properly, hope you get it sorted soon mate!
  20. Isn't it illegal to run wheels so wide that the tyre tread is sticking out past the wheel arch? Pretty sure that's an MOT fail. Plus if those rear tyres are stretched, your car will handle like A S S :gag: part from that, awesome car
  21. i use a multi-sided 11mm spanner no probs, but if you've started rounding you might wanna try a ten or perhaps a bolt-grabber?
  22. having used both, I'd say no imo. WD40 is good as a lubricant, but plusgas is an awesome penetrant. You should be able to find it in a local factors, might need to hunt around a bit though.
  23. Remembered the rack is off a 70k Corrado, so will probably be good for another 3-5 years (until it's reaching the 100k mark)
  24. That would be seriously retarded if they are. try plusgas and leave them for a while. If the caliper is off the car, I may tell you my patented nipple removal technique! So far, 4 old 91 calipers off and zero breakages...
