  1. there's a definitive 20vt thread on here, have you read it?
  2. That's not a PM, that's a visitor message on his profile.
  3. If you mean the long blue plastic one which goes the length of the car, I'm pretty sure VW still stock them as my bro has one spare.
  4. I have a ratty old black door you can have for free, pickup from oxford.
  5. your brakes will prob fall off tomorrow John
  6. hey now, that wasn't too demeaning was it? Maybe I tried too hard. It was a little mean, I apologise :) I am hoping to do something with my plum soon! I'm a shirley boy innit!!! brap. I'm just up in ox for uni. Not been back down south since my water pump blew a couple of years ago. Where you based?
  7. Phil, you're running rich matey. Your AFR should be up in the 14:1 range.
  8. Never had it happen, but Ignition module perhaps? I hate diagnosing wiring issues cos they don't get fixed with the lash of a hammer :/ Might also be a fuel delivery or dirty fuel problem. Does it ever hesitate like you've just put your foot on the brakes?
  9. That's like saying a thermos will keep coffee hot and ice cream cold both at the same time. I'm pretty sure that if the 42mm is a restriction at top end, a gas flowed head really isn't going to improve the horses. If you want the best of both worlds, a variable inlet is probably the only way of doing it.
  10. What happened to your torque curve! It's got a massive dip between 3-4000rpm, did Pacman take a bite out of it? What is that like to drive, does it hesitate or stutter?
  11. Steve, I think you just want to drive a Volvo. Let's be honest ;) :D
  12. I doubt a buckled wheel would cause the brakes to heat up, unless the wheel was contacting the brake somehow, but you would surely see marks showing that.
  13. VR6 conversion on a 1.8 16v is certainly not easy buddy. you have to change EVERYTHING! 1.8t will be much easier for you, comparatively. ---------- Post added at 04:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:17 PM ---------- also you can get parts for you engine from a mk2 golf 16v, or ebay, or on here!
  14. LOL :D yeah you could check the metering head flap as mentioned before, as they can gum up sometimes and get stuck at certain positions. It's under the circular rubber cover thing on the left, and the main unit has all the fuel lines spidering off from it. That's the metering head for the fuel injection :D
  15. I'm not 100% sure which subframe you're talking about. Do you mean the frame which holds the rear engine mount and gearbox mount on and also houses he steering rack, what I would call the subframe? Or the frame which holds the front engine mount and attaches below the radiator into chassis rails, what I would call the front cross-member? Or the frame which the radiator sits on and has the PAS cooler poking through, what I would call the radiator panel?
  16. lol good film :D no magical midgets are involved with my wagon though, sorry :/
  17. G*** WLW  Any manlier name suggestions are appreciated!!
  18. You make my early DBP weep by having that on your car badgerman  I'd leave it on, the rear glass is known to rust quite heavily...
  19. So here are a few pics of Willow from the advert. She is pretty tidy, 4 owners on a G plate, spax adjustables and black diamonds up front. Nothing fancy really. I am looking forward to playing the the suspension settings though, seeing if they are any good or pants. I really like the small bumper GTis :D my E reg 16v was the same, and it was a great car until the rear end rotted :/ Every advisory from last mot has been done (a bearing, discs and pads, and shocks [replaced with spax]), so all I need to do is pick it up and drive it to my local garage. I'll be supplying parts if they're needed, but i'm hoping it doesn't need much to get through. More updates on Friday I guess! ---------- Post added at 12:14 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:13 AM ---------- Also, if anyone knows where I can get armour door plates which don't cost £25 a pop that would be great. Been a long time since I had a Mk2.
  20. Amazing! When I went on a trip with some mates to Africa, we had to fix the exhaust hanger of a VW combi with plastic zip ties. Luckily it was the backbox so the zip ties gaves us 15mins of good motoring before melting through :D
  21. omg really? That's brilliant! Getting good quality PAS lines is like having a trouble-free year with a Corrado: almost impossible!
  22. To be honest matey, i'd be looking at the root of your problem. Are you sure the caliper is goosed? If the brake is running that hot, something is binding. If the pads are wearing evenly, then it probably is a sticky caliper but if the pads are wearing unevenly, then it could be something simple like a warped disc, or perhaps a bent caliper carrier pushing the caliper out of alignment. Whatever you decide to do, I hope you get it all sorted.
