Got a nice suprise today from my car insurance company.
boost monkey replied to VWVW's topic in General Car Chat
Yeah, FJ gave me a rebate recently too - £220. It was cheaper to take out a new policy with them to add the missus onto the Golf than it was to add her on an existing policy (go figure) and because I was on limited mileage and hadn't exceeded my limit by then they gave me about 30% of the premium back! They didn't want any confirmation at all, just told them on the phone that I hadn't gone past it. It nicely paid for the deposit on the new policy. Edit: FJ are quite happy to let you use the car for commuting also, I do 1000+ miles a month at the moment. -
I may be wrong, but your speedo will be electronic not cog driven (like an A2 Golf is). I've heard of this problem before, I think it might be a bad earth or something. Definitelt electrical issue. hth, Jon.

Now the cold has moved on (and no long cold-start cycles) the car has jumped from 32 to 35mpg as an average (calculated from tank fill ups) and seems to be running reasonably. Planning an oil change and possibly a ignition and filters service this month but we'll see how it goes. Starting to save up towards a house! -
Already scrapped fella! Been up for sale since November and no takers, so they've gone to the crusher.
-
didn't winchbeitch clear it up for you? they are the idle valve and crankcase ventilation hoses.

Renshaw project (probably going to sell / swap)

Good to see the updates Jay! I have 17 pages of new posts to trawl through - seems I've not been on here in a while! What's next on the list? Perhaps some samcos for peace of mind? -
You can free up the handbrake mech by dumping some penetrating oil / plus gas down the shaft that the mech turns on, and then covering it all up with grease after to keep it lubricated. Last summer both my rears used to bind on at junctions which led to literally dragging the wheels. 5 mins wfor a liberal soaking with plusgas and then some lithium grease and they have been fine for about 8 months.

Removed due to Youtube's violence policy :-/

Car is now scrapped (what my brother and others didn't glean from it!) Thanks for all the support and help over the last 4 and a bit years - I'd like to say I'll be back but let's see what happens. I'll still be around to help out where I can(!) and continue the CAD projects. Cheers, Jon. p.s. Jim still holding that part for you - worry not!

More info would be good, like: Mileage, Service history, Parts included in sale (does 'complete' include ECU, gearbox, etc etc) £200 is strong money for a standard KR, so more info would definitely help. Good luck with sale.

same as Mk2 Golf Gti 16v. Check ebay.
-
some matey on here with a 20vt got theirs to 180mph+ didn't they? Deffo remember reading about that. Used to race an R8 through the gears and win! Had about 40k in it IIRC.

same rack as the mk2 golf. You'll need one with the right UJ splineage as prevously mentioned.

I'm also wondering whether I should stop using the original tyre pressures for the car (half load: 29psi front, 26psi rear) and pump them up harder to allow for some better mileage out of the car. The tyres are Uniroyals new in the autumn, and my suspension is lowered about 20mm and bit stiffer. Thoughts? Are OEM tyre pressures still valid? -
MD has allowed me to use one of the old versions of Solidworks now from work (we use 2012 at the mo, but have discs back to 2009) so I'm happy to say that I'll be back on this from this weekend all being well (and there's a 64-bit version available!) Jon.

really fancy this...! http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201202441857393/sort/priceasc/usedcars/price-to/3000/model/corrado/make/volkswagen/page/1/postcode/ox4/radius/1500?logcode=p

Great news fella! I'm gonna open original IGES data at work and have a play - i'll bring my USB with updated parts in tomorrow all being well.

So I spoke to the MD just now, and he is quite interested in the idea of getting some hubs made up. As I mentioned before they make Ally / Titanium hubs for other companies that sell brand-specific racing parts, and also the company used to race a Golf/Vento VR6 and they designed in-house some quite trick front hubs which I’ve seen pics of (but not seen the CAD yet). I wonder how different the housings would be to the 5-stud Corrado items…? I basically mentioned that some of you were looking at redesigning the hubs to allow for easy 4-pot caliper fitment, perhaps some offset mods to allow for wider track and a few other bits besides. I guess we could even think about redesigning ABS pickup on the hub to allow for newer sensors to be used, but that’s all speculation / crazy monkey thoughts. I’m sure they would be interested in doing machined from solid BJE items also once we work out the final models for them (especially as these will likely have a higher number of interested parties than the hubs). I’m hoping to get cracking on this more in the near future – I’ve been taught a lot more modelling/surfacing in this new position so I’d be able to mod the original hub/lbj much much better now. @Jay, did you have any luck with real-world modding of a LBJ to fit the lowering situation? I’m starting to realise the appeal of these as my Mk2 tends to dart left and right a little on bumpy roads. Obviously VR BJEs won’t fix my Golf, but at least I understand the need for them! :D Let’s keep this thread alive.

Also the inners should be threadlocked, so between that and the big spanner and lack of space it's a bit of a battle. Also have no clue whether there is a special tool available. I have no experience of 6cyl aka waffly versatile racks.
-
Not sure if you know but they'll be the same as the Mk2 Golf 16v so you can use those sensors also.
-
I have 1 and 3. If you're close to Oxford feel free to pick them up. I don't want anything for them.
-
I'm guessing you're after a 15" mrbiege? So an old mk2 one will be no good for you...?

Thanks for the advice david! It's good to know. Yesterday we had a snap frost in Oxford to -2, but today it was much milder and the car drove much better on the way in. I'm hoping the mildness stays. Any idea how much extra fuel is used in cold start mode, either as a % injector duty cycle or cc's? Just curious really. -
bumpety bump for the front bumper, tailgate complete and bonnet. Open to offers on these. I am looking to get the rotten chassis taken away ASAP, so if you can make it to Oxford and have a big car then let me know. Also a ton of interior black trim left. Would be a shame to scrap it all. Comer over for an afternoon and you can keep whatever you take off! (trim, not clothing). Jon.
