  1. Nice rims. Did fancy a set of these for mine. Another Vr in the north west then ?
  2. .....I had a feeling the response would go something like that - I feel the same about mine mate, but my miss' always says that if someone came along at the right price blah blah !!!....... :nono: I dont think so :D ......thing is with yours is that by the time its finished that 'right price' might just be higher than you might imagine  To be fair to my missus, she is 100% behind the car and its restoration. Maybe because she's a named driver on it has something to do with it ! Funny but when somebody asks me what I drive the conversation usually goes something along the lines of: "Oh a Corrado, that was the Scirrocco replacement (or Mk2 Scirrocco), yeah" "Is it a VR6" "Is it a storm" "Oh its not a storm" "A campaign.. naaah sorry mate, never heard of it. What's one of them then" They then also start talking about its worth but honestly it matters not one jot (apart from to the insurance) as the enjoyment I get out of it is priceless. I've a friend who's a 911 fan and showed his 964 turbo 2 and used to get many offers of purchase but always declined as if he was to get rid of it, it must be on his terms.
  3. I've "nearly" bought a classic car every year for the past ten years and bottled it every year. Therefore I always said to myself that if the "right" Corrado turned up I'd buy it and keep it, end of. I remember seeing a Campaign being talked about many moons ago in a magazine article and thought "Hey, that sounds like my kind of car" shortly followed by "Yeah and I'm going to see one of them any time soon". So when this came up for sale I was in the very fortunate position of having time and money on my hands. My last job meant that I had to control budgets and lead times so I simply applied what I know to the Campaign. I've set a budget and time scale for the current work and am currently right on track. I plan to run the car through the six months of summer (or what we refer to as summer) and then set to work next winter on the next stage, which will involve the engine bay and restoring/replacing corroded parts of the car. No matter how I look at it, it's a labour of love, but I have to be ruthless about expenditure otherwise it could get out of control. I never plan to sell the car. I sold my 16V four years ago and wanted another after seeing it being driven away (and nearly did on two occasions). Okay there "may" be a time when I have to consider it for the sake of the family but in near future that isn't going to happen (he says fingers crossed).
  4. Sounds sad but you've got a point. If I'm not careful it'll be like when you go to someones house and they ask you to leave your shoes at the door ! Where do all the shoes go ? Don't think VW ever put a shoe rack on the options list !
  5. Is that a nice touch/idea from yourself or did they come like that from VW ??......either way strangley sadly cool :) My idea (take responsibility be it good flak or bad flak). It gets worse though as I want a bonnet bra made in the same colour leather. I did think about a set of shoes in the same leather but that's just being silly ! Or is it...??? I'm starting to get quite giddy at the prospect of driving her complete again. Though I'm under no illusion that there's a lot of work to be done yet.
  6. After literally months of searching, the Leather was paid for and ordered from Germany on Wednesday. The colour is called "Tanin Rot" and is used by Audi in the R8. Should be with Stuart and Paul at Ashley James auto trim, Westhoughton (01942 816612) the last week in Feb and should all be complete mid way through March. They're trimming: Full dashboard Handbrake trim tunnel Gear knob Handbrake handle Bonnet bra (subject to buying one and taking it apart) Service folder (material permitting) Thus far it's all going to plan (touch cloth... err sorry wood). Back from the paint shop at the end of Feb (latest). Start the rebuild on or before the 1st of March, with the dash and last bits of trim to be installed over the last week of March. I set a deadline of the end of March as I want to tax and drive her on the 1st of April. Just hope I don't end up an April fool !
  7. I've taken mine apart to clean/inspect them (foam was still good so left them) and found they came apart fairly easy. The hard part was getting the metal rods to catch on the metal tabs when putting back together. Best to take the seat out and put it on a bench. Remove the webbing from underneath. From there its a case of opening the tabs enough to remove the covers. From what I can remember, the fabric is bonded underneath the seat cushion. Let me know if you're having any specific issues and I'll try and relate my ramblings to pictures !
  8. I always do a quick shop around for my main car (moneysupermarket, confused etc) and then ring Adrian Flux back. I've pretty much been with them for 15 years because when the renewal price comes through (and yes it jumps by 20-30%) they guarantee to beat any quote. If I haven't been with AF then it's been with Performance direct (www.performancedirect.co.uk). When it came to the VR, AF could get close (£320 ish - next cheapest quote) but PD wiped the floor with everyone else at £200 ! That's with an agreed value on a fully comp classic car policy with my fiance' as a named driver. They're both professional outfits and I have no issues recomending them due to their high level of service.
  9. Welcome to the forum. Yes they are available from VW and they are about £250 each. I'm having a windows out spray job in a couple of weeks so I enquired with VW about three weeks ago. Safe to say when I picked myself up off the floor of the parts department I told them I'd try to remove them via the non destructive method. The bentley manual does show to cut the widow out via the outer rubber but after speaking to a few people in the know, it turns out that if your careful you can remove them without damaging them. Best to speak with a bodyshop that has removed them before.
  10. A big thank you to "87 Jetta 16v" for the pristine headlights. Great product and communication. Thanks Neal
  11. My old car ! The current owners on here. Think his name's "ken corrado"
  12. Bin the OE resto. I'm all over this. Love the way the bumper has been fitted and then "shaped" with either a jigsaw or blunt knife !
  13. Thanks to Pat McCrotch for collecting the tow bar and paying ontime like he said. Good show that man !
  14. Yet another "thanks a lot" and great service/communication from StueyB. Top drawer !
  15. Thats okay, hopefully there will be other users of the suspension set up on here. The KW Uk website are doing a set for £385. Maybe the bargain of the year thus far ?
  16. Thats exactly the kind of comment I was looking for. To be fair I wouldn't have expected any different. Though I'd like to find an image of them on a Corrado and at least hear from a couple of people who have them fitted. Anybody out there with them bolted on ? yup! They are superb.[/quote:1k78fexi] The V1s or the 40mm lowering package (springs/struts) ? or both ?
  17. Thats exactly the kind of comment I was looking for. To be fair I wouldn't have expected any different. Though I'd like to find an image of them on a Corrado and at least hear from a couple of people who have them fitted. Anybody out there with them bolted on ?
  18. I've finally nailed the bodyshop down to a date to start the work. 1st Feb 2010. Sick of seeing her in a thousand pieces strewn across the garage. Just want to put her all back together now. Must get onto the leather man.
  19. It WILL happen for you Jim. I spent the four years after selling my last Corrado riding a bike and driving a £300 fiat so that the money was laying in wait for the right time. Funny thing is I nearly bought back my old C the week before I bought my current one. REALLY glad i didn't now. Talking of activity, I went to mid Wales over Christmas and saw three in three days (within 10 miles). That's more than in the previous 12 months !
  20. Thanks for the first hand advice Jim/dukest/3cm/CM, I really appreciate it. Just heard back from the bodyshop and the car is going in for a full respray at the beginning of Feb so I'm going to have to be ruthless with my budgetry control. It's looking like OE Bilsteins with Pi springs at the moment. I would love to jump aboard the good ship "KWV1" but I'm afraid I can't afford the ticket bearing in mind the bills that will be dropping into my intray in the coming months. For some reason I'm still not totally sold on the coilover idea as well. Surely there's a suspension package on the market that offers the same comfort as the KWV1s but without the coilover facility??? I've seen the KW suspension package on the Venom website. Anybody any feedback on this one (apart from it's pink !): http://www.venommotorsport.com/product_ ... Suspension
  21. Thanks for the reply Jim and Dukest. The ride height on your car Dukest is right where I want to be. What I really don't want is an overly firm ride. I've had coils with the inevitable back pain issues and wish to leave all that far behind! I'm not going to be using the car as an everyday so am willing to forgo handling for ride quality as when it is used it will mostly have the mrs and the boy contained within. I've had a look at the OE route as in previous cars I've enjoyed good results with the right kind of springs. Looking at the Europerformance website I've earmarked the following: Bilstein OE front and rear shocks Pi 40mm springs Does anybody on here have experience of these products or at least using 40mm Pi springs on OE shocks ? Are there any other parts that I should be looking at replacing at the same time and where's best to obtain these from ?
  22. I'm looking to lower the car slightly (92 VR6). Current measurements: Floor to arch (front): 587mm Floor to arch (rear): 657mm Tyre to arch (front): 55mm Tyre to arch (rear): 90mm I'm keeping it standard looking for the long term (15" wheels, 205 50 15 tyres etc) so wouldn't mind advice from similar drivers. The current shocks are shot to pieces so will be replacing all four at the same time. Looking for a polite but not over the top drop (perhaps 20mm front and 35mm rear ???) retaining the slightly lower front. Budget is around the £500 mark. My main questions are: 1, Do I replace the shocks for OE units and lower the car using springs and/or front top plates (whats the ride like doing this ?) 2, Do I replace the shocks / springs for uprated units (The Koni sport adjustable units read well) and if so is there a brand/model I should be giving my attention ? Thanks in advance James Below is a picture from a few months ago to give you an idea of the current ride height:
  23. I've been in north wales between Christmas and new year and spotted three in two days !: Red 16v (late grill and irish reg) 28th Dec - Criccieth (near the VAG dealer) Burgundy VR6 (K reg) 30th Dec - dual carriage way (A497/A499) between Pwllheli and Criccieth Dark blue G60 (Chap wearing a flat cap) - Chwilog - 31st dec
  24. I've had this on a 16v. Frozen handbrake cable. Thawed out over the course of the day and cured its self by dinner time.
  25. Another great Corrado in the North West ! Hoorahh !!!
