  1. hey pal, good to meet you today - car is looking and sounding lovely. hope you manage to make it for UD next weekend :D
  2. git! that's bloody lovely! 8) :D
  3. 17" ABT's are 9.6 Kg without tyres :)
  4. that'll learn you for strapping a fizz-bang to the back of it! figures sound good David - they can return some surprising figures for an old car with a big engine can't they. i once saw over 40 mpg out of my old one on about a 20 mile run, but i was driving like miss daisy. :)
  5. Not back yet mate, still some work to do :) better get it sorted for UD! car is looking immaculte as always. i hope i never see that gearbox ever again - sooooooooo jealous. lovely buddy - top work 8)
  6. i'm unsure on this; i also have a K reg VR with the late interior and a coilpack. i was thinking they were quite rare too, unsure for certain... when was yours first registered? mine was 30/06/1993... by the way Shaun, your car is looking lovely. i have been umming and arrring over the headlight detailing for a while now - you've just made my mind up - top work! :D i'm sure you will be loving the KW's before long too!
  7. haha. randomly enough, a friend of mine has recently sold me a brand new outdoor carcoon. it is still brand new in the box, never been used. needless to say i got it for a good price. i have a nasty habit of having to spend 6 months away in other countries, so i thought investing in one of these would benefit the car while i'm gone. here's the website if you want to check them out - you "concours types" might benefit from these! :) http://www.carcoon.co.uk
  8. brakes and car are looking awesome James - top effort :D
  9. i've never taken the gearbox out of the car in-situ, but to do that and change the bolts etc shouldn't take more than about 2-3 hours at a guess. if it takes them much longer then they have either run into problems, are inexperienced with VW's or are just plain crap!
  10. However I am going to get the damage fixed first before I take it off the road so atleast the bodywork is all good and then just needs the engine! you make it sound so easy!!! hope it all comes together with the repairs bud, glad you have been sorted with another car now. i still have a fair few R32 bits lying around which i was going to put on the R32OC shortly. i doubt you will need most of it, but if you're after anything, gimme a shout :D (tha's good having an indoor, lit place with lecky avaiable - aboslute godsend. i mostly had to do my conversion in the cold & rain! :( )
  11. He's aiming for 800BHP and it has gearing which would permit 226MPH... say no more. He said he'll be happy if he can get it 200MPH. Assuming he's feeling brave enough, and can find a piece of track to do it on (Bruntingthorpe?). He said that, even 4 up, with the boost dialled down and running it in (so never going above 4k), and never using full throttle it'll put you back into your seat. Gotta try and bag me a ride in it next time! :) f*ck me!!!! :ignore:  :onfire: :evilbat:
  12. hey Dave, hope all is well, haven't spoken for a whiel now. just wanted to say hats off to you for your car buddy - it's looking insanely good! a real credit to you there :D i shoud imagine Kip and Judith will have some stiff competition come the next concours meet :norty:
  13. i never knew that you were going 24v Kev, when did you pick that up? i totally follow your points about going 2.8 instead of 3.2, but even running a turbo and lots of other non-standard bits, surely you won't need to worry about a rebore etc for a very long time... it seems like it would be simpler just to go 3.2 from the beginning - r32 heads/inlet manifolds etc are available (god bless ebay!), but they still don't come up very often... while we are of the subect - are a set of Mk5 R32 manifolds any good to you? i also have the twin cats, but they and the down pipes are all one unit, which i doubt is any good to you as you're going turbo... and i have seen Jon's bora at stealth, never heard it running unfortunately - the boost pipework and FMIC are HUGE!!! it's going to be ridiculous  :norty:  anyway, more on topic... Rob what's happening with your car now, any more news on the repair front (very sorry to hear about that by the way, but it looks as though it will turn out well in the end :) )
  14. you do indeed, but he said at the start that he already has the 312 setup, meaning he only needs discs and carriers now... :)
  15. i did have some 288 carriers sitting around doing nothing. if i've still got them, do you want them for £30 posted?
  16. nice to see you stocking up on hardware there bud! those brake line spanners are a very good idea - will save many a rounded fitting :D
  17. nice! :) guess what i'm ordering on monday! :D
  18. hey buddy glad to see it's coming together for you at last - don't lose that motivation now you've got it back! :D
  19. hey again adz. just to echo what Kip has said; i would say you should give it a go, but only go as far as smoothing the rough edges of where it has been cast. (what i thought actually when reading the thread title) you would have to get a bit radical to cause problems, but people do end up doing it by mistake trying to chase those few extra horses. if you do want a proper job though, then you should go to a known reputable tuner who you know has a flow bench - there's absolutely no substitute for that. just go easy with that dremel! :norty:
  20. absolutely loving that buddy - sounds great running the two in series like that - you should have no problems there. great to hear about fuel surge etc on low fuel - you must be very happy. i like your "modification" of the stock fuel pump  it will moun and come in and out using the OEM fittings nicely though, no doubt you are very happy. more bboooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooosssssssssssstttt needed!
  21. haha - i hope you can explain that to the mrs! yes that airfilter was definitely fubar - did the right thing to replace it :)
  22. i had the same problem with mine. those sensors are inexpensive to replace - check out www.vwspares.co.uk the original ones have metal sheaths (as mentioned above) and are swines to get out withot damaging them. for the sake of a few quid, you may as well just get hold of some new ones. they are known to play up as the car gets older, so you should have peace of mind afterwards. also, (again mentioned above), the new ones they send oyu should have plastic sheaths, meaning they "should" be much easier to remove in future if you need to...
  23. thanks for the positive comments gents - really appreciated. wasn't sure i had made the right decision with the wheels until i got them on the car - very happy with how they look! :) i really do wish that garage was mine! - that's the VAG-doc's haunt! - very very nice a well. he has an absolutely stunning Mk2 there; i had my first good look round it the other day; it's UNBELIEVABLY immaculate! :notworthy:
  24. well i have a small update - not much has happened to the car since my last post - still waiting for the news. starting to get a little dispondent now i have to admit - i can't even begin to describe just how much i want it back so i can reap the rewards of my hard work. even when i get it back, i've still got a couple of small kinks to iron out (no biggie), but what's really pi$$ing me off is the fact the the gearbox is going to have to come out because the fecking stupid garage didn't rebuild it properly like they were supposed to! :bad-words: on the plus side, thanks to the VAG-doc very kindly found me an acid-free battery on the cheap which is currently setting up home in my boot! :D i'll try and get some decent pics of it when i'm next down that way... anyway. below are a couple of piccies for your enjoyment. there is one of my shiny new drive-by-wire pedal that will be going in when i know exactly where i want it. i have a rough pedal (that works!) to do a mock up with in the mean time, as pedal placement is after all, a very personal thing. the new r32 peal will be going in as soon as i'm happy with how it's proposed postion feels to drive with. stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdfSD530941.jpg[/attachment:3ozott4e] also i have a (poor quality phone) pic of the car with the new winter wheels on - very happy with these personally. they are nowhere near as classy as the BBS which is why they will only be winter wheels, but i still think they suit the car nicely and they look like they should hopefully have plenty of clearance for my inbound brembos. :D Corrado92.pdfPhoto012.jpg[/attachment:3ozott4e] lastly, saving the best for last! i have been in drastic need of a toolbox for some time now as i have a habit of acquiring tools and have had nowhere to put them until now. vey fortunately a friend of mine no longer needs his box, but badly needs cash. the box is in absolutely awesome conditon and is basically exactly the same as it came out of the factory. i'm paying him less than 1/3 of the original cost from new. i'll let the pics of the box do the talking... passat climatronic wiring diags.pdfDSC_0033.jpg[/attachment:3ozott4e] climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfDSC_0017.jpg[/attachment:3ozott4e] 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfDSC_0002.jpg[/attachment:3ozott4e] DSC_0061.jpg[/attachment:3ozott4e]
