i loved this idea when you told me about it buddy - OEM+++ should be brilliant if you can get the ball rolling on it :D

If I'm honest and without sounding like a bodger does it actually matter? Only because Gruvenparts give you the option to blank it off on the crackpipe which I've pretty much done with my poo pipework, I know it's much nicer to have it as it should be but will it make a blind bit of notice of no water gets through? If I had easy access I wouldn't be so desperate to not have to do it again. Also out of interest what's wrong with Jubilee clips? I always dump spring clips for them if I'm doing a job as I thought they were more secure...Have I been living a lie? :brickwall: as far as i know there's no really big downside. i think the reason some people on here don't like jubilees is the fact that you can overtighten them and they are easier to bugger up than spring clips. i'm definitely with you in the jubilee camp though - loathe the pain in the arseness of spring clips...

i recently had the header tank off mine - gave it a good treatment with some caustic soda and it came up pretty well. if you give it a good scub outside and it, they do come up nicely. admittedly new is obviously good - but if you do a good enough job, you can get your original one pretty close :)

Project Shadow - NEW ROLLING ROAD RESULTS Pg8 and VIDEO!!
pete_griff replied to LisaK's topic in Members Gallery
i love the mean look of this car - glad you have got it all sorted again :) you need to get it on the rollers and see for sure what it's making! :norty: shame you don't like your wheels - i think they suit that "dark" nature of the car, they are uber light as well, so you'll notice a handling deficit if you change to something heavier... -
i'm not sure on the exact figures what the compression parameters should be i'm afraid (i.e at what figure you should start to worry), but with the other cylinders being so uniform and that one being different (only personally here - as you obviously get mucho heresay and opinion on internet forums) i would question it. a sniffer test is a chemical test done on your coolant to see if any exhaust gasses are contaminating it (leaking from cylinder to coolant). a garage should definitely be able to sort you out (unsure as to cost...) and i'm afraid i don't know if you can just buy the chemicals etc to do it yourself as i've never really looked into it TBH... one thing it might be worth checking first - on both my car and ziderapple's, there were some engine signal cables going to the ecu that ran past the ecu housing and over time had rubbed and started to earth on the shell (probably causing my prior rough running, also with white smoke etc), so that's possibly an easy fix... hope you manage to get to the bottom of it :)
-
based on those results it's probably worth getting a sniffer test done - that will confirm/deny if coolant is getting into no. 2....

Pete Griff's 'Rado R32 - (Not quite!) Alive at last! :D
pete_griff replied to pete_griff's topic in Members Gallery
hello again all, thanks for the positive comments - i promise as soon as it's sorted i'll let you all know - i'm getting pretty hacked off with waiting i have to admit. but then it's going to take as long as it takes - the vag-doc has been on it as often as he reasonably can and we are hopefully slowly getting to the bottom of said electical gremlins... i'm going past bristol tomorrow, so i'll hopefully have some more news on progress either tomorrow or monday... (although getting internet access at the moment is proving a bit of an issue due to work commitments :? ) anyway, yes as Chris says i may have been splashing the cash AGAIN!!! i was lined up to buy a set of otteinger wheels at the end of this month, but that fell through. however, my quest to have a set of summer and winter wheels was soon satisfied when i stumbled across these on ebay... - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0364270717 needless to say i snapped them up at what i thought was an absolute bargain price for a set of brand new wheels still in the boxes! i have to say i actually prefer these to the otty's and they are also fairly rare, so i was pleased! :D i have 4 brand new proxes 4's sat in the garage to dress these with as well. they will hopefully clear my brembos when i get hold of them with no dramas, so i can then set about getting my lovely RX's refurbed for the summer. i've got a new set of eagle f1 gsd3's on the rear of my RX's right now and some horrible nondescipt make on the fronts, which i shall shred at the earliest possible opportunity and replace with some more eagles asap. that probably won't happen until the summer time now though... anyway, i have a piccie of the nice shiny new pedal on my phone, so i'll do my best to get the posted up tomorrow. i'm also going to post a big for sale list of random vr6 bits and bobs shortly (redunant from my conversion) so keep your eyes peeled on the for sale section :) thanks again to all those who have posted positive comments - really can't wait to get it all finished and back on the road now. the list before then goes:- - sort electrical issues and get remap - replace radiator and fit new laser cut fan brackets and new 8" fan - replace temporary fix for oil pressure sender with permanent solution (likely a oil flexi line with the relevant female end) - at the same time, rob the oil temp sender off the old vr engine and plumb that onto the same oil take off for the pressure sender - giving me the oil temp mfa function back - drive the car back up to the place that rebuilt the gearbox and get the horrible rattling issue in 1st sorted - fit brembo's on front and 280's on rear (if current group-buy goes ahead...) HOLD BREATH......... ENJOY DRIVING (AND NOT FIXING) CAR AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE! :D -
bumpity bump for some thread ressurection! does anyone have any idae as to 4-pot clearance and weights on the ABT wheels - got my eye on a set as we speak.... need the info asap, as they will probably go soon... thanks very much :) pete

hey jon, glad to hear you're making progress on the plum again :) i hopefully have a load of those little retainer washers for the heatshielding lying around if you want 'em. (they are pretty cheap from the dealers though if you're in a hurry). hope to pop up sometime again and see it all working before long. i might even have my own machine sorted by then (maybe :? )

Pete Griff's 'Rado R32 - (Not quite!) Alive at last! :D
pete_griff replied to pete_griff's topic in Members Gallery
thanks very much for that buddy - just can't wait to get it all back and sorted really... thought i would do a v quick update - i've bought a new clutch master and a new flexi line (already got a new slave) as my gear change has suffered since i've done the engine swap - put it down to running squishy silicone fluid, having an uprated helix clutch and an old original master. hopefully the new bits, plus normal fluid should sort the notchiness out... also bought a new drive-by-wire pedal (as the one the breaker sent me was broken - typical!) for a mk5 r32 - it's nice and shiny and will fit in well with my existing TT pedals. also, still waiting on getting the electrical issues sorted - been in regular contact with the vag-doc. he thinks it might be ecu related again, so is going to try and get hold of a known working ecu and see if that sorts things... also he has a funky canbus converter, so he's going to see if he can sort me with an engine management light and also hopefully get the mpg function working on the mfa... :D also going to order up a new genuine rad so i can make use of crazydave's rather nice frickin' laser cut fan brackets. still no definitive news on what's oging on with the gearbox until i can get everything else sorted... that's where we stand at the mo, hopefully i will have some more news soon. Pete :) -
do you have your own press for the valve guides? - lucky man!
-
clutch plate does look ok bud, but at as james says; being as you are doing it all anyway, for the price of a new clutch, you may as well do it while you are there. also with your clutch pedal - it might not be the slave, it may be the master - i know people often have pedal issues when it's the master. it's expensive, but if you're sorting it, then you may be as well to replace the slave, master and flexi hose all at the same time. i replaced my slave not long ago and i'm getting issues now (since my engine change), almost certainly due to the master. i've just fitted a helix clutch and i'm running silicone fluid at the moment (which is a tiny bit squishy), so that's probably not helping matters either. i'm replacing both the master and the flexi hose (which bizzarely goes porus with age!) just for peace of mind. if you don't mind splashing the cash, you may be as well to do the same. hope it all goes well for you anyway buddy :) when do you recon you'll have it all sorted?

support panel is looking spanking matey nice one :) haev arranged to pick that MAF up on sunday morning btw, so i'll see you as soon as i get to yours from bristol :D

Calipers from BiggRed and my running gear refurb
pete_griff replied to pete_griff's topic in Drivetrain
the ones on mine were off a mk3, but i know they were changed at some point in the car's life... also the prices vary depending of whether they are girling or lucas... mine are the lucas ones which are significantly rarer (apparently) and hence the bits etc are more expensive to get hold of... you're best bet is just to give the guy a ring once you have some idea which ones you have on the car... -
 haha - best parts washer in the business!
-
I think i have all 3 going on plus a little bit of thrown in for good measure. nice - treat yourself! it is a corrado after all! :?
-
that's interesting - i wasn't aware of that... do you know if those share the same mounts as the VR?
-
because the MFA functions work off the drive from the 5spd box - if you change the box, then presumably the drive will be different and it will confuse the MFA computer...
-
why are px4's so cheap at the moment? they are good tyres...
-
i have a friend who works for VW who told me how he has also seen what you've described before - quite surprising this would happen i thought when you consider what it does/where it is... liking your new signature by the way John - very apt! :D
-
just been on http://www.blackcircles.co.uk in 205/40 17" they have toyo proxes px4's going for £54!!! - bargain! i don't know why they are that cheap, but they are a nice tyre, very good in the wet and wear much better than previous toyos (e.g. t1-r's and t1-s's) which are known for wearing out very quickly. i have just ordered 4! i don't know how long they will be that cheap for, but if you're after a set i would get on those as quickly as you can :) edit - apologies mods if this should really have gone in the definitive tyre thread - just wanted it to catch as many people's attention as possible!
-
looking good buddy - hope it's coming along now. bet you were pleased to get up there and see it after a while! :D
