Be interested to know how you get on also as I'm about to do the same to mine. Nothing seems broke on it and it will slide and tilt ok manually but if there is anything worth replacing whilst it's out then I probably will. After speaking to a lad I know at vw it appears there may still be some parts he can get hold of but nothing definite. I'm tempted to take the whole lot out clean and regrease it then replace the motor with a mk3 golf version which are supposed to be much better.

Mk3 sunroof and other sunroof repair observations
daniboy1_2_3 replied to andrewchapple's topic in Exterior
Hi there does anyone know what parts are interchangeable from a mk3 golf mechanism? I've been told the motor is but not sure what else. I wish to retain its original look and functionality. Cheers. -
Hi there, thanks I'll get hold of some of that grease. I like the sound of that roof but just going to stick with original. Anyone know which motor I need?
-
Hi, I've stripped out the headlining in my corrado as it was just about to fall off. While I'm in there I decided to try and get to the bottom of why the sunroof will only tilt and not slide. It feels quite tight to operate manually although I can't see anything amiss or broken. Since playing around with it the motor has stopped working altogether. Whether this is a symptom of a tight mechanism or not I'm not sure but probably. I've read that the mk3 golf motor is a good upgrade. Does anyone have a part number or know exactly which models I need to be getting one from? Is it just a straight swap or does anything else have to be changed?. I'd like to clean it all up but I'm loathe to take it all apart unless I can spot anything wrong, I'm tempted to just keep working it and give it a good grease. Are any parts still available that I should consider changing? If not then I guess there is no point in taking it apart anyway. Cheers

Don't suppose anyone has a picture of this white plastic clip that goes onto the door handle in situ do they?. My corrado is off the road now with an ever growing list of jobs that need tackling. The door rebuild still being one of them.
-
Sounds good. So with some tweaking do they fit as good as factory wings then?
-
I'm also looking into repairing mine. The sunroof would tilt but wouldn't slide smoothly. It would stop moving and I'd have to keep pressing the button repeatedly. Now my headlining needs doing I've decided to tackle the sunroof at the same time whilst everything is out. Ive come to operate the motor again and now it does nothing, all I hear is what sounds like a relay clicking. First question is the motor repairable? I've manually wound the sunroof open and closed, it feels tighter than it should although still works OK. It's probably worth rebuilding it but are the parts available to do that? Cheers.

Sounds like a cracking project and your off to a good start :). Spoke with you and john a few times over the phone regarding my 16vg60 mk1 golf build. I missed johns corrado at the vw festival unfortunately. Is it up and running now?. I heard it was something to behold!. How good a fit are those wings? Are they late or early type? Cheers.

Thanks, I've messaged the furniture clinic so hopefully they can sort me out. I seem to remember that also do a good kit for restoring leather interiors with a little spray gun. I might just do the whole lot.

I've sourced some material that I'm happy with but its a darker shade of grey than the original meaning the sunroof deal and sunvisors won't match. Can these be recoloured with anything?
-
Hi, I've removed the headliner from my corrado and cleaned as much of the glue as I can without damaging it. I'm on the lookout for a good match for the original grey material if anyone can recommend where to get it from?
-
Can't seem to upload any pictures but the calipers as far as I'm aware are original corrado g60. They have lucas 38 stamped on them. I've measured the gap properly and it's less than I thought, around 7mm. With the thicker pads this would leave around 1.5mm either side which is probably okay.
-
Hi thanks for the reply. I'm aware that operating the brakes will take up the gap. In my experience there shouldn't be much more than a small gap when fitting new pads. You run the risk of the piston coming too far out once the pads wear right down. I'm wondering if this is normal and if not what's wrong?. Are there different discs as well as pads available for the G60?
-
Hi, I've got a little problem with my corrado G60 rear brakes. I've fitted new discs and pads but there is a large gap, approx 13mm between the new pad and caliper when caliper is slid over to one side. This means the piston will have to come out 13mm before any braking takes place. My pads are 15mm thick and I've found 17mm pads but this will still leave me with a 9mm gap. Any suggestions?

Yes I think it may be more hassle than its worth and ill probably just invest in as set with the mounting holes. I'm using a DTA ecu and want to utilise the launch control function which requires an undriven wheel speed sensor input.
-
Well I've just checked my stub axles and they don't have the mounting hole for a wheel speed sensor unfortunately. Does anyone know what year they got fitted with them? I was thinking of drilling the hole to fit the sensor. I don't suppose anyone has a stub axle they could take measurements off do they please?
-
Ah no problem thanks.
-
Thanks but I can't see a sensor on there and there don't appear to be any part numbers? Apologies if I'm doing something wrong.
-
So I need the ABS ring and metal cover, both of which sit inside the inner bearing and oil seal by the looks of it. Cheers. Can anyone give me part numbers for the sensor and associated clips? Thanks.
-
Cheers, from memory there is an oil seal in the disc that faces the stub axle, how does the ring push in here? Just to confirm there is an additional cover apart from the oil seal then?. I can't remember off hand as I don't have them in front of me but I don't think my G60 stub axles have that hole. Was it only some models that had holes in the stub axles?
-
Hi there I'm fitting my corrado G60 brakes to my mk1 golf. I'm using the original mk1 golf gti rear axle and the corrado G60 stub axles to allow me to mount the rear calipers. I also want to fit a rear wheel speed sensor and rotor. Can anyone tell me if the rotor just presses into the disc? I've already got new discs. Also how does the sensor mount and can anyone give me a part number for it please. I also remember reading there was some kind of cover that sirs between the stub axle and oil seal if anyone knows what this is?. Or is there just an oil seal and nothing else?. Last thing is I'm wanting to fit some rear disc shields are they available and does anyone know if they would work on a mk1 axle? Cheers.

Hi mate still looking for info. I'm hoping I can either source a the original material new which I doubt or find a trim company that can supply me with what I need. How have you tackled yours? Cheers.

Hi dave, thanks for the reply, ive sent you a message :)

Mine has a sunroof. So am I right in thinking the lining is attached to a detacheable panel? I thought it was just a piece of material stuck on but from what I gather the headling can be reattached to the panel out of the car then the panel refitted? That sounds easier than trying to put a new lining into the car in situ. I also thought it sat behind the rubber seals but obviously not. It looks like the whole lot is going to have to come out then to get done properly. Are there any companies selling replacement material? I notice that the orange coloured foam has just disintegrated, is this stuff stuck to the roof normally? What have people used to replace it?. Thanks.

Hi, my poorly corrado needs yet more attention in the headlining department. Im guilty of neglecting her of late, the list of jobs continues to grow but I haven't yet devoted the time to get on top of the situation. the latest problem and one that cant be ignored is the sagging headlining which is now so bad that its peeling away from the roof and onto the passenger seat!. Obviously this cant be ignored and ill have to pull my finger out and sort it, which im hopeing will spur me on to get the other niggles sorted. Im currently away with work and my dad uses the corrado whilst im away (and while im home!). This problem has been there a while but just recently it got a lot worse. He was ringing around bodyshops asking if they would have a look but ive told him to hold his horses whilst I ask you helpful guys here if its a DIY job or best left to the professionals. Has anyone tackled this job with success? Is there a particular method to refitting it? I had used some adhesive spray on it a while back as it came away from the sunroof aperture. Studpidly my fingers were grubby with the glue etc whilst I was handling it and I got myself and it into a bit of a mess. Any advice on my best course of action appreciated.
