The definitive "What Air Filter?" discussion thread
MonkeyVR6 replied to CazzaVR's topic in Engine Bay
Well, I've changed back to the standard setup. Would I notice any difference, or indeed, is there any point of changing the standard panel air filter for a K+N panel filter? -
Cheers dude, I'm going to get some tomorrow. Is it easy enough to get the pipe off the bottom of the raidiator?
-
Dude, how many containers of VW's G12++ coolant do I need to buy for a flush/refill?
-
What are the two stages of fans on a VR6? Is there any way to test them? I might be being a biff, but I thought my car only had one fan? :cuckoo:
-
Put the ABT In-Pro headlight surrounds back on the car and put the standard air box back on.
-
I am still worried by slightly high temperatures, or maybe its just be being paranoid. Not changed the coolant since winter and I notice it sometimes goes up to the next line above the middle one (:gag:) in heavy traffic. My oil temp seems to always be between 106 - 110 with normal driving, sometimes up to 112. I'm using 5w/40 fully synthetic. Ok, I know its summer (mid-20 degrees most days here at the moment), so things run a bit hotter...but surely not that much?
-
ah nice one. you have any details on the seller??? name or something? :notworthy: This dude >>> http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-VR6-ENGINE-INL ... 7C294%3A50 Arrived quickly too.
-
I had to buy one of eBay, it was 35 quid. About a third of what it was from Volkswagen and Ford. The dude stil sells them and they look (or are) new.
-
Cheers dude, hopefully the chap will be back from holiday soon so I can buy some

I too live in Germany, and I also get high oil temps, especially with the very hot weather we've been having. Its not unusual for my oil temp to be over 100 degree's. Whats the score with fitting an oil cooler? Surely the VR6 engine already has one (I'm a mechanical biff, so excuse my questions!) Would it be an idea to replace the standard item first before I spend bucks on an external cooler? Also what about oil pressure with an external cooler, can that be a problem? I'm running fully synthetic 5w/40 oil shizzle, would a change to 10w/40 help matters? Cheers.

I have the Pipercross VR6 thing, had it one there for about a year now?! Am thinking of changing back to the standard filter this weekend, doing lots of Autobahn journey's lately the Pipercross is just starting to piss me off as its so damn loud on full chat. -
Hi chaps, You know the stickers in a VR6 engine bay on the black bit of plastic above the raidiator...well, can you still get them from anywhere? If so, where? :) Cheers.

Oil change :)

What the hell! Insurance group 12...I'm insurance group 18 (UK) or 28 (Germany) in my VR6. Surely that can't just be down to mine being easier to steal due to its age?

JSB Racing Shiftlight kit - Pre-order for next batch
MonkeyVR6 replied to mrbeige's topic in Suppliers Forum
Got mine fitted and its very, very cool. So original and OEM+ looking and it just simply works so well, especially as the button to turn the shift light on/off or to set it (which is also pretty straight forward too). I'll try to get some photos/videos uploaded soon. Highly recomended. -
So whats the difference between the blue cap and the black cap?! I've currently got the black cap on my car and I don't notice anything odd happening, but I keep seeing stuff about a 'new' blue cap! I take it its a standard Volkswagen part? If so does anyone have the part number? Whats the difference? What am I missing out on? :?

Are we still good to meet in Ely sometime mid-May? I was going to be back 9th May - 19th, but now I won't be back till at least the 14th May for about a week. -
Took car to Volkswagen to get the following changed: - gearbox oil changed - new rear brake discs - new rear brake pads - handbrake cables fitted - goodridge braided brake hoses fitted - brake fluid renewed Ordered: - aero wiper for the rear (to match the front) :luvlove:
-
Anyone know the cost of rear brake discs from VW?
MonkeyVR6 replied to MonkeyVR6's topic in Suppliers Forum
Ordered the discs and handbrake cables and a oil gasket that they said would be a good idea to replace if I was doing the discs. Volkswagen said they'd never heard of, or changed the dust or stone shield(s) themselves...so I didn't bother. The wheel bearing (part 23 on the screen) was a bunch of bolts including a wheel bearing, but they were 45 Euros per side, so I didn't bother as I'd just spent 120 Euros on other car parts! They're going to fit the discs (and oil gaskets), pads, handbrake cables and goodridge brake hoses and re-do brake fluid for about 160 Euros. -

If I were back in the UK on leave mate, I would have done - I'm only in Cambridge :) -
Hi chaps, As above really, I'm getting some work done by a chap at my local car club, I've got the new rear brake pads, and goodridge brake lines...all I need now is rear brake discs and handbrake cables - so anyone know the rough cost from Volkswagen? Cheers, D.

Get it back on Saturday morning, hopefully all fixed, then call DemonTweeks (again!) and ask them where my fucking parts are
-
Fitted my aero wipers...anyone know how to get them to fit properly?
-
Its bound to be wheel end of things, doubt steering rack etc. So again, lets start with the freebee items: 1. grab each front wheel with both hands and pull hard, yanking back and forth. Nothing should move. 2. check for balance of both front wheels, by you (as above) or tyre fitter; also have them check the state of the tyre - uneven wear can cause a wobbly ride 3. while wheels are off, check the brake caliper/carriers are fixed tightly (although would expect judder to be at all speeds if this were the cause). You've done those and it still judders. Next suspect might be wheel bearings or ball joint. 4. check ball joint boot (rubber) for splits 5. check wheel bearings. 6. check suspension, not loose at ends/mounts etc Should not be tracking unless its miles out. Cheers mate, I'm really grateful for the knowledge! I've booked my car into the garage tomorrow morning. The front engine mounts, front suspension and top mounts are all new! The front two tyres are new, plus the wheel weights were moved recently to the inner part of the alloy. It all felt fine until I removed the wheels from the car and then put them back on (I think I put them back on the car in a different order).
