  1. Hoses are 44cm from centre of banjo to end of line, You cannot mix the hoses up as only the front pair have banjo ends. Has anyone got a stock Mk3 VR front hose from their 288mm conversion and if so can they measure the length, Ive just been on the phone to the supplier and they have stated they are the correct length and tuff!!
  2. Fitting a 288mm conversion to a 280mm Corrado Vr6. Goodridge hoses for a late 95 on Mk3 VR6 with the banjo fittings, Corrado is on stock suspension and on full travel and full lock the Goodridge hoses are about 4 inches too short!. Now i know these very same hoses were fitted to my old Corrado Vr with the 288 conversion so i cant figure out whats going on!,either Goodridge have balls'd up or this very Corrado has about 4 inches more suspension travel than it should do!. Answers on a postcasrd please! Pete.
  3. Ive always felt the Miltec was very discreet, hardly any more noise than the stock system except perhaps at high loads. The carbon will dampen the noise level over time, thats the same as any new system.
  4. Ive had some real stubborn ones before and although the fork type usually knacker the rubber dust cover on the balljoint they always pop eventually. Your going to really have to give the hammer some welly, i usually stand up with my back to the car and swing down onto the extractor, also get some heat onto the bottom of the hub not the balljoint :D
  5. Making the most of it is being out in it not driving in a car sweating your tits off imho, Im all for enjoying the windows down when its warm but when it gets to the stage where your sitting in traffic with your back soaking wet , no thanks... I also find that motorway driving at 70+ mph when its roasting is tiring with the wind noise,i find it so much more relaxing cruising at speed with the air con on. Weight difference is about 15kg which is nothing in my book...
  6. Does it have to be switched? Surely if its a fan cotroller then it will only function when the coolant temp is over a set temp?, Why couldnt you use the existing ran fan wiring and incorporate the aux water pump onto the circuit?
  7. Hardly the end of the world in that it is a Corrado specific part though. Im sure you can get the plugs online and cheaper than the dealership anyhow 8)
  8. Fitting my air con end of this month, Cant bleedin wait....
  9. Jack the car up, wheel off, You will see threaded collars on each strut, winding them anti-clockwise will raise the car, winding the clockwise will lower the car. You should have a C spanner which locates in the notches on the collars to rotate them. Obviously you use both spanners to loosen the two collars apart to do the above sequence.
  10. So what was the cause of the bottom end letting go?, And in what relation was having the top end fixed related to the bottom end failing?. Did you ever get to the bottom of this?
  11. Agreed above, That ABV block would be used as a rather oversized paperweight if i owned it, i certainly wouldn't be putting it back in with a hairdryer strapped to it after being shaved... Im sure a 2.8 AAA block from a Passat or something thats had an easier life than a sports coupe would be a good place to start. And with forced induction your gains are going to be negligable with a 2-300 cc capacity increase if your turbo'd. Good luck, does this mean i get a spin in August still? (or a drive  ). cheers Pete.
  12. Your talking something like 72cc of capacity difference, if youve swapped everything else then that will be fook all difference, your possibly talking 3-5bhp max and thats if the ABV has good bores and isnt suffering from blow by. Seriously, if you really 'want' an ABV then get your money back, if you want an engine that seems to suffer less from the typical VR shortcomings - ie bore wear and bore ovalisation then stick with the AAA.
  13. Ive never killed a set of fronts on a trackday, if your suspension set up is good and your not understeering into oblivion then you will not do more than scrub the shoulder tread, how much depends on your driving style.... Obviously if you really want to you can keep pilling on lock and go into a corner way too hot, try to pull the nose in towards the apex and plant the throttle at the same time and produce a cloud of tortured tyre smoke. This is where track focused tyres come into there own, a set of Toyo R888's, Yoko A048's or Hankook RS2's come into there own as they will grip far past the levels of stock road tyre's especially when they get hot on track.
  14. Personally unless youve paid a premium for the ABV in the first place i would stick with it, Every ABV ive owned (3 now) have been oil burners and lift off overun smokers to varying degree's, none of the AAA's have displayed these tendancies. In fact i had a AAA in my first Corrado VR6 and it was the sweetest and best engine ive ever had in any of them with no discernable difference in power when fitted with a ABV ecu, throttle body and intake manifold. If what youve got is good and youve done the headgasket by all means pursue them if youve paid more for a ABV but id be inclined to keep what youve got, i will never buy another ABV lump....
  15. ive got a battery clamp plate kicking about somewhere if its any good to you? Also re: the emissions, i would very much doubt its the cat thats at fault, more like fuel injection set up and a good service.
  16. You need to go to a garage that has the equipment to track lowered cars, some places the tracking gauges wont go over the wheel rim when the car is lowered. As for your gear problems, it sounds like a leaking clutch slave cylinder to me, try pumping the pedal a few times before engaging a gear if it wont allow you to select a gear next time, slamming it into gear when it clearly doesnt want to is not a good idea either, your going to break something doing that. As for the idle messing around, first step is clean the ISV out, do a search on here.
  17. My how big of you. I forgot about this place, Having actually owned a car and putting across a point that is not from a friends friends Uncle's Mother is frowned upon on here. Ive owned a 172 and i find it laughable to read such a load of crap about them not handling, i guess all the road testers and journo's got it completely wrong. A shagged example thats wearing **** tyres and worn shocks will throw you in a ditch as quick as anything else but does that mean they are all like that?, and they are certainly not the sort of cars that will do so unless your driving like an idiot of there is something wrong with it or its run on budget tyres etc. And if you want to insult me on here Kev,dont do it via a keyboard, its not big and its not clever. Welcome back :D I understand all of that, but suggesting that the other chap is a bad driver because he "ditched it" came across a tad harsh, or maybe it's just me  I asked the question because I've seen your other posts on here and they're a lot more laid back, so it seemed out of character and deliberately antaganistic. If i've got you all wrong, then I apologise. Kev In my experience cars don't just fall off the road themselves, To write a car like a Clio 172 off your either driving too fast for the conditions, driving too fast for your ability or finally driving too fast for the ability of the car. The third option is the only one that is questionably outside the drivers control and when i say questionably i mean that if you don't know when your getting upto the limit of what your driving you shouldn't be pushing it that hard in the first place hence me throwing in the 'ran out of talent?' comment... Thats is not suggesting anyone is a bad driver (we've all done it), merely lifting the blame solely from a car which is known for having great handling, personally i fail to see how you can write a car like that off on the public road and blame the handling... Sure you fit shite ditchfinder tyres or lower one so far it has no compression available to the suspension then yes maybe but thats not the fault of the car is it?. Im just giving an opinion to the OP as someone who has owned one, ive owned, driven, worked on and track'd shite loads of different marques over the years - i would bet more than about 99% of this forum and im not what id call the typical VW blinkered individual that sits on a lot of VW forums, sure i love and own the Marque and have done for 20 years but i will also add my 2 penneth when i feel strongly about what i read especially when i don't agree, if that makes me a C0ck in your eyes well thats down to you but to sit behind your keyboard and write that about me who you've never met me before i think is pathetic. As i see it this is a discussion forum, thats what its here for but i still think your bang out of order... And Majik, something was very, very wrong with the car you drove, they dont just torque steer like that at all.

  19. All this talk of lack of torque at low rpms is crap, I had a Ph1 172 and either you are expecting a stupid amount of grunt from a 2 litre engine or something seriously was up with your cars. My 172 was easily as fast as my Corrado low down and top end, sure there might be times when the VR would pull better at low rpm/high gear scenario's but hey who drives around labouring their engine?... And 26-27mpg average, do me a favour.. I averaged 35mpg out of mine driving to work and back, 40+ on the motorway was easily achievable. Interiors are pretty hard wearing, usually the steering wheel falls apart but i thought mine was pretty solid, electrics are a bit hit and miss however. They are great fun but it just wasn't 'me' and thats why i sold it... And too much power for the chassis, well thats the first time ive ever heard that from what is pretty commonly known as one of the best handling fwd cars made, you must know something we dont?? Sure driving a tired one with shagged OEM engine mounts will not help but come on, they will run rings round most FWD cars chassis wise...
  20. Lovely, Charged, Recaro's, Air Con, Job done in my book 8)
  21. Jack with a block of wood to spread the load underneath sump, bottom of mount is bolted to front crossmember under a 3 bolt cover, top of mount is one bolt to the bracket, easy to do..
  22. 1st gear with bonnet up and handbrake on and if you can see the front of the engine rise by more than about 1 inch when lifting the clutch with a few revs the front engine mount is gone.
  23. Main dealer only afaik not that expensive either, about 20 quid or so or at least it was when my old man replaced the one on his Mk3 Gti 8v which is the same part or near as damn it...
  24. Well lets hope it is tappets. Magnetec is not my favourite choice of oil but its got to be better than whats in there. Fingers crossed..
