I'll be doing this shortly, going from the engine bay back to the boot. I've installed speakers and headunits loads of times, but this is the first time I'll have done an amp. I know some of the basics like running the power and the RCA's down oposite sides, and earthing to the bolts on the read seats, but is there anything else i need to keep in mind? is there a handy grommet in the engine bay i can pop the wires through?

I'm looking for a VAG service in the newcastle/sunderland area, anyone got any recomedations please?
-
from the looks of things its twisted wires, so I'll get a connector block and sort it out that way. Ta for the wire colour info...any ideas on the on the colours codes for the original wires so i can match them up?

I put my headunit into the car at the weekend and found.... installed by halfarts according to the recipt for the old radio...nice one! ARGH! not good... So does anyone have a guide as to what colour wires are for what? any any ideas of how to sort it out? I was going to try and get some proper connectors to join the wires, that should do it shouldnt it?

yeah, tescos are a smart bunch.....they didnt have the CCTV cameras turned on. :( which i thought was an offence in itself.

I had a bad experiance in a tesco's carpark too, I used to have a Astra SXI (until I crashed it last month :? ) I'd had it 2 days and went shopping in it, parked up in tescos, did the food thing, came back to find my rear arch totally caved in by someone who obviously turned a bit too wide when they pulled into the space next to me, then didnt have the guts to stick around and own up to doing it. Left me with a £400 bill and a dented Astra with 80miles on the clock. Now I park over the other side of the carpark and walk.

chrishill replied to brian g60 corrado's topic in ICE 'n' Secure
if you're looking at 6.5" componants I used to have a set of magnat 216's in my astra that sounded great. Sold them now though. They're about £50 new. -
oh cool, that'll look loads better :) just need to sort the handles now!
-
yeah, i had that thought, but thats why i asked whats under them, so i know if theres holes that'd need to be filled!

The only things on my corrado that i think make it look a little 'dated' are the black plastic door handles and the 'bump strips' down the side (theres probably a technical term for them!)...so i was wondering what my options are for colour coding them. can you get replacement parts in primer or is it a case of sanding and painting the standard parts? whats under the bump strips? are they 'stuck' on or screwed/bolted?
-
I'm planning on replacing the standard (and very rusty) exhaust backbox on the 1.8 16v i get this weekend, but what should i be looking for? are there any that are especially good for the corrado? I'm not looking for anything really loud, just a nice rumble and nothing to expensive! are there any sizes or anything i should be looking at? Is replacing it something i could do myself?
-
well i bought it! i pick it up at the weekend all being well, bargin at £1750! I'm going to take it around a few bodyshops and painters to see what they recon to what needs doing, I still think its going to need painting in some way as i'm looking at keep the car for about 3 years, so i want it as close to mint as possible. I'm going to get it fully valeted and i'm going to look into getting the alloys refurbished.
-
yeah, i knew they did the soft top beetle and didnt they do a Karman giha for VW? Didnt know about the cosworth though!
-
Theres one on the car i test-drove today, just wondering if its anything special?
-
yeah, its not just that, some of the panels are a slightly different shade of red, so for the sake of a few hundred to get it looking spot on i'd rather get it sprayed!
-
well, went to see it. Mechanically it looks sounds as a pound, very well serviced and looked after. Steering felt a bit heavy, but i suppose the PAS isnt going to be up to modern standards!! and it went like stink with 3 people in it! very impressed. I'm looking at keeping it for a couple of years at least and with that in mind it needs a new front right wing and it really needs respraying because it's going slightly pink in places, which isnt good! the guys asking £1800 for it, so I'm getting prices for painting it and a wing and i'll try and beat him down...
-
cheers, just wondering if i'd got anything to upgrade them with already....bit of a surplus of speakers! Closest I've got are some Magnat components out of my old car that are 165mm :( looks like i'll have to go shopping!!
-
I'm going to look at a 'G' plate 1.8 16v tomorrow morning, and i just wondered if theres anything major i should be looking for? I'm not mechanically minded but I'm takeing my Dad who is, so he should spot anything obvious. Is there anything i should be getting him to look at in particular? The car itself has only done 79000 miles which is amazingly low for a 13 year old car! I've heard that if the little on-board computer is playing up it probably means its been clocked. The major worry for me is that this car will have to last me a couple of years at least, and i dont want it to explode on me! Any advice would be very much apreciated!

Basic i know but.. Can anyone tell me the standard speaker sizes in a 1990 1.8 corrado? Ta!
