  1. Thanks guys, in the end my local VW wizards were able to straighten the reinforcing bar, heat the stretched & bent plastic back into shape & fit the new splitter perfectly. Thanks again for your very helpful advice, another G60 will live for hopefully a few more years. I believe this car which is completely standard except for 68mm charger pulley & chip, uprated headlamp loom & good wipers is one of the safest cars to drive in difficult conditions because there is so much feedback from the chassis & steering, I have had the pleasure of almost unbelievably trouble free driving for 23 years, dont know what would replace it. Regards Mike
  2. Anybody have a good splitter reinforcement plate pt no 535807181 with/without bolts, mine has got bent on my 92 G60 & may not be recoverable. I have a new splitter from VW Heritage & want to get her back to fine fettle. Regards Mike
  3. Read somewhere that the 10v regulator is for the petrol & temp gauges so that they stay accurate with varying battery voltage & they were the only 2 that worked so I deduced it wasnt that. Anyway I replaced the cluster circuit board with one I bought some while ago on ebay & hey presto everything is working again albeit with an incorrect odometer reading, the car had covered 180k + miles now reads 111k. Not sure what happens at next MOT, obviously I'll tell the garage what I've done. Happy that I fixed it.
  4. There is a 10v voltage regulator on a heatsink that is probably the problem. I hope to replace this sometime soon & will update this thread with the result.
  5. I have a recollection it was something to do with a voltage stabiliser on the cluster circuit board in a thread I saw a few years ago, I am lucky I have a spare cluster which I can utilize to try & get things working.
  6. As title my 92 G60 suddenly lost Speedo tacho odometer & MFA displays in the cluster, everything else temp & fuel gauges all warning lights are working ok. I have a recollection that someone had a problem like this but havent been able to find the thread, anyone else had this problem & fixed it?
  7. What fuel are you using? Although the G60 runs on normal unleaded ok most of the time, it runs better on V power or other higher octane fuel, if there is any knocking/pinking the knock sensor will signal the ECU to dump boost via the ISV.
  8. Well it turns out 1H0959455D is correct for manual G60 & is still available, but none in the country will probably come from Germany but its over £300!! For the time being I've used contact cleaner on all the electrical connections & it seems to be working better, keeping coolant just below 110c when stuck in traffic so putting off investing £300+ for the time being. On a good note I've had 2 people say "If you ever want to sell give me a call" recently, good to know the G60 particularly the later ones are still sought after & valued.
  9. My 92 G60 has developed a noisy & slow cooling fan, turns easily by hand but motor must be dying, temperature rises to above 110c when stuck in traffic. Does anybody know if this fan is still available fron the dealers? There seems to be 2 types listed for the PG 1H0959455D or 1H0959455G ? Any help appreciated
  10. Just out of interest what part is that, so other people with similar problem can fix it to
  11. Well have had a couple of quickish drives to Southampton & back this week & the oil/water temps are now back to sensible levels & seem more stable just by tightening main earths to body behind the battery & bell housing & from throttle body to coil clamp & tightening auxiliary wires on battery clamps as well as clamps themselves. I still see a rise of about 4c in oil temp when lights switched on but its about half what it was & now I know its electrical I wont worry so much. I was convinced the water jacket in the oil cooler on top of the oil filter was furred up especially as the heater hasnt been very hot recently but I'm pretty certain thats hot/cold flap in heater box problem now as the flow & return coolant pipes to the matrix both get very hot. That'll be the next job then, the heater box was out about 2 years ago for new matrix & the chap that did it mentioned he had fitted new foam to flaps, I had a quick look by taking passenger side shelf out & could see cable operating levers/gears ok on box. Seem to get more heat if fan on max so wondering if foam has come off flap & is blocking air thro matrix?? Dont want to take heater box out, does anybody know if you can remove fan ducting to see flap etc without taking box out?
  12. Thanks guys at least I know mines not the only one with this strange fault. I have today tightened earth connections & battery clamps/connections & remade lighting connections on relays of modded loom & I think oil temp readings are lower also coolant temp which seemed to rise quickly when stuck in traffic now seems more stable but I havent done any motorway driving which pushes the oil temp up. Should have a better idea tomorrow after a burst along the A31/M27 to Southampton & back.
  13. Have thought oil temps reading a bit high recently on my stock G60 & then noticed that oil temp reading rises by about 8c when the headlights are switched on & goes back down again when their switched off?? Everything appears to be working fine apart from this strange rise in the reading, I was beginning to think the stock oil cooler was furred up but looks like a weird electrical fault causing high readings. I will check/clean earths & check connections on the modded lighting loom.
  14. The adjustment of the linkage on the boost return is critical to driveability of the car & should not be altered, other people have tried it without much success. Best way to increase power & make car feel more responsive is the tried & tested smaller charger pulley & chip & mine has a valve in the ISV plumbing to stop it dumping boost aswell.
  15. Usually air getting into induction system somewhere where it shouldnt, leaking vacuum pipe is common, idle screw falls out of back of throttle body when seal perishes screw vibrates out is also common. Also worth checking the idle micro switch on the throttle body is operating correctly, a few things to check
  16. That is where a pipe that goes across to the plastic valve that operates the recirculation of petrol vapour carbon canister thingy. A lot of people delete the carbon canister & its associated pipework because its surplus to requirements & is only there to meet emission laws in certain countries. If your G60 has had this done then there are a couple of holes need plugging & your picture shows one of them to stop air in/out of the inlet manifold.

    Black 1993 Onwards G60

Yes the late G60s have the later body style, later steering wheel, 15gal/70litre tank etc
  18. That is a very clean looking G60, the body & paintwork look amazing for a 22year old car. My G60 is also a 92 J plate with the late style external body panels etc & early internals apart from the steering wheel on mine which is a late one. Very interesting to read what you have been doing & see the pictures, mine is almost stock apart from 68mm pulley/chip & high boost valve in the ISV pipework. Did you get round to replacing the engine mounts? I have just had to 2 rear mounts replaced, front one was done a couple of years ago. I think my rear mounts were pretty shot, car has done 160k + miles, feels very different now & theres noticeably more vibration when idling. My garage that did the work told me that the rear hydro mount 535199262 is no longer available from VW so I hunted around on the internet & found one on GSF'S ebay shop which had the VW part number on it & was listed as manufacturer VW for £51. If I try to pull away rapidly now with wheels spinning etc at least it doesnt feel like the motor is going to jump thro the bonnet anymore. I notice from the picture of your plugs you arent using the Bosch W6DPO platinum plugs which are recommended for the PG engine, this may be the reason your plugs look sooty, they are expensive at around £10 each but last for 30-40k miles & are the only plugs to use in a PG. Keep up the good work, great to see a G60 the same vintage as mine running well & looking amazing. Mick
  19. The culprit was a broken jubilee clip on one of the easily accessible intercooler pipes, now fixed. Thats the sort of problem I like, easily fixed.... Mick
  20. Had a quick look this morning & everything around the throttle body & charger looks ok but got underneath to look at the intercooler end & it looks like one of the rubber pipes has popped off down there. its a bit oily down there so thats helped it slip off I guess. Should be quite easily fixed with a clean up & push back & re-tighten I hope. I've had the 2 rear mounts replaced with stock ones recently by my local backstreet VW garage who always do a very good job for me, I just wonder whether they jacked the motor up a bit to do it & pulled this pipe partially off. Just a thought, anyway i'll have a go at fixing it later today. Mick
  21. Hi Owen, thanks for the offer. I'll have a look tomorrow, I suspect there might be a problem up near the throttle body because there is a different induction noise on full throttle & the smell of fuel suggests a hole near where the heater fan sucks air into the cabin.Maybe the pipe has popped off somewhere there. Cheers Mick
  22. Was driving home today after a day at Centre Parcs Longleat, G60 was running well back down the A36/A338 until the A31 at Ringwood, was accelerating in 3rd when there was a muffled pop & immediate loss of power, no other noise & motor sounded ok, drove home ok to Bournemouth but drives like its lost its boost & there is a slight smell of fuel. Havent looked under the bonnet yet, its dark out now will look tomorrow. Does anybody know what I'm likely to find, do the boost pipes have a habit of bursting? Mick
  23. Thanks for the update Jim, it takes as long as it takes, just glad I might be able to cover the R/H screw eventually. Mick
  24. I was advised by my local VW garage that the rear hydro engine mount part no 535199262 for the G60 is no longer available from VW so I have been hunting around as I want to keep the stock mounts. I have found what I believe to be a supply of new OEM mounts from the GSF ebay shop, wasnt sure to start with but the manufacturer was listed as VW & as I hadnt found anything else but cheap pattern mounts I decided to bite the bullet & invest £51. To my surprise the part arrived the next day (free delivery) & it does have the part number 535199262 moulded into the rubber so looks like genuine VW part. The same mount is used on all the 4cyl Corrados if anybody else needs one of these here's the link:- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rear-Engine-Mount-for-VW-Corrado-1988-1995-/380787036236?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3ACorrado&hash=item58a8ad104c#vi-ilComp Regards Mick
