  1. Pictures of wear points on drivers seat would be useful.
  2. Reminds me of when my Austin 1300 GT decided to break a cage on the final drive bearing & a ball got trapped between the crown wheel & the case. I had put the car in reverse but it didnt want to move until I gave it some more welly there was a small popping noise then it was ok on the short journey home. Parked the car up & it deposited all its oil on the drive. Hope your problem isnt quite as dramatic, & is easily fixed.
  3. On my G60 the pipe goes to a tee in the brake servo vacuum pipe near the manifold & measures boost etc.
  4. Your link isnt working on my netbook.
  5. Thanks Steve, I just hope things arent too rusty under there. I hope to get it done next week.
  6. My G60 has developed sudden flat spots when accelerating hard & the fuel pump is intermittently noisy. I am hoping that fitting a new fuel filter will fix this as it has the original still fitted after 20 years & 165k miles. It doesnt look too difficult as its accessible just in front of the drivers side rear wheel arch & appear to be held by a clamp around it. Anybody done this recently got any tips please. Regards Mick
  7. Sorry to jump in on this thread but I have what I think is a fuel starvation problem on my late G60 that looks to be fuel pump / filter related. I noticed yesterday when gunning it in 5th gear a sudden lack of power a couple of times so I backed off & it ran ok home. Later I took her out on a short journey round town & I noticed the fuel pump was making a strange noise when I got back. If I have to replace the pump & filter I need to know which pump & is it still available from dealers. My car is a late J reg G60 & has the larger 15 gallon tank fitted with the single in-tank pump. Is the pump the same as used in the VR6 & other later models & is it still available can anybody tell me please. cheers Mick
  8. Black sensor replaced & temp gauge working again. Thanks guys
  9. Black sensor replaced & temp gauge working again. Now I noticed a flat spot when really gunning it in 5th gear this afternoon & have just noticed the fuel pump is making a strange noise like a strangled mouse. Fuel filter has never been replaced so looks like fuel pump & filter need replacing. Going thro a phase of one problem after another at the moment but then the car is 20 years old with 165k miles on the clock & has been extremely reliable in the past.
  10. Owen glad to hear the charger was good internally, I think leaving the boost return pipework intact but using a check valve in the ISV pipework, means that the oil vapour helps to prolong the life of the charger. Good news
  11. Looks like its the black sensor after all, after much proving continuity of wires & substituting the complete cluster I re-tested the sensor & it was 9k ohms with a cold engine. New sensor on order....
  12. The yellow/green & brown wire is definitely the temp gauge plug its black & the ECU temp sensor plug is blue to match the colours of the sensors themselves.Proved the continuity of the yellow/green wire all the way from the sensor plug to pin 23 of the cluster plug & its fine. Tried a spare complete cluster that I have recently bought on ebay & it was the same I re-tested the black sensor this morning with a cold engine it was reading 9k ohms so it looks like it might have been the sensor all along!!!! It was just coincidence that it happened just after the new stereo was fitted, I put 2 & 2 together & made 5 it seems. New sensor on order Mick
  13. Hi Owen, I hope to get a look at this tomorrow, so will check out what you have highlighted. Thanks for the suggestion Have you pulled that charger apart yet, I am interested to know what the internals are like because it had done about 130k miles with 68mm pulley without a re-build but apart from the original toothed belt having a few teeth missing appeared to be ok. Cheers Mick
  14. Checked out some wiring info found on web. Temp gauge wire is on pin 23 of the multi-pin cluster plug & a yellow/red wire goes to U2/09 on the fuse box/wiring centre which is linked to G2/03 & then yellow/red wire goes to the black sensor so will check fuse box connections. Also there is mention of a relay 43 for low coolant sensor & coolant temp sensor, gauge control. Not even sure if there is a relay 43 in my car? Also I will check the colour of the wire at the black sensor because I thought it was yellow/green but it is very grubby so it could well be yellow/red. Mick
  15. I also have no temp display & am in the process of faulting it, albeit at quite a slow pace because of lack of time etc. On my G60 gauge suddenly atarted reading low about 70c even when engine was very hot, & I have done a bit of preliminary testing starting with the black sensor which tests around 150 ohm when hot & appears to be ok, Also looking at the circuit board that the temp/fuel gauge mounts on both gauges have a common +10v supply so if the fuel gauge is ok we must assume that the temp gauge is getting a good 10v supply also. The brown wire at the black sensor plug should test earth into the loom & mine tests about 2ohms to earth which appears to be ok. I tried a spare gauge but that also read low. That only leaves the wire from the gauge to the black sensor which is yellow with a green stripe at the sensor plug end. I have not been able to prove further yet because it will involve taking the whole binnacle out & getting to the multipin plug at the back. previous to my fault developing the dash had been moved/out for a new heater matrix a couple of months ago but everything was ok after that was done. Also more recently a new Alpine stereo has been fitted by Halfords. I am suspicious that the wire may have been damaged or a connector pulled apart behind the dash. The gauge has stopped reading altogether now I hope to find the fault in the next few weeks & fix it. I'll try to keep this updated as I go. Mick
  16. Looking for a genuine VW rear hydro mount part no 535199262, recent replacement on scrapped car or very good condition, for my G60. My local dealer tells me its no longer available from VW. Many thanks Mick
  17. I notice that some cars have red needles on the clocks & some white, my 92 G60 has white & after replacing the temp/fuel gauge temporarily with a red needle one, while faulting the temp gauge, it is noticeable that the white needles show up much better at night. also the oem bulbs for lighting the clocks stand about half inch up from the base & are often replaced incorrectly with squat ones which dont line up properly with the green cellophane giving a very dim light. Hope this helps
  18. Dash was out a couple of months ago for a new heater matrix but everything was working ok after that job but more recently I have had a new alpine CDE-173BT stereo fitted by halfords, stereo works great even thro oem corrado speakers & they even connected the auto dim when the lights are switched on!!. I wonder if all this messing about behind the dash has caused this problem, I'm pretty sure the black sensor is ok as it tests as per the Bentley manual. I'll have to temporarily piece out the whole of the yellow green wire from the sensor to the multi pin binnacle plug to see if that fixes it.
  19. Still tracking this fault down, as a retired communications engineer I have a good basic knowledge of electronics & particularly wiring, continuity testing etc. I have a spare G60 cluster which I have dismantled to examine the circuit board & note that the fuel & temp gauges share a common 10v +ve battery supply & the other side goes via the loom to their respective variable resistance earths. The fuel gauge works ok so will look into the loom (yellow/green wire) to the black sensor & the (brown wire) earth. Does anybody know where the brown wire from the sensor actually earths? could be one of the brown wires that terminate on the head cooling flange stud. I'll try a good known earth via a 110ohm resistor to the yellow green. I'll update if & when I fix it because I know how useful this forum is when things go wrong.
  20. Its a fairly new thermostat & heater is working fine, so I'm pretty sure the engine temp is normal as the oil temp reads 90-100c on the MFA but the gauge is reading low. Its either a fault in the loom or the black sensor I guess...
  21. My G60 has suddenly got a low reading temp gauge, has always read normal 90c when moving & rises to approx 108c in traffic & fan cuts in ok, now gauge reads 70c or less but engine temp seems normal & fan cuts in if I stand still for long Main suspect is the black sensor so have tested it & it reads approx 150ohms when hot. Does anybody know if this is normal? Testing the wires see earth ok on brown wire & approx 10v battery on yellow/green with ignition switch on. I have a spare set of clocks so tried a different gauge but its the same so its not the gauge, fuel gauge etc are working fine. Any help with black sensor test much appreciated.
  22. As described earlier some models have different internals in the cluster, tried the easy method to change the LCD backlights on my 92 G60 but found the LCD displays are fixed to a circuit board & are only accessable from recesses in the back by taking the whole cluster out being careful to remove boost pipe & multipin plug carefully.
  23. Still have G60 available for collection for £100 as seen in Bournemouth, PM me with your contact details if you're interested. Mick
  24. I love the feeedback from the steering & chassis, makes it such a safe car to drive in tricky conditions & especially when there is ice about but it does feel heavy for parking & slow manoeuvres....
  25. Sounds like you're talking about the U shaped pipe that comes off the right hand end of the injector spray bar to a pressure switch mounted above manifold. You will need a new one with clips from the dealers as its molded to the correct shape & its quite important it doesnt leak onto the hot exhaust manifold below because of the fire risk.
