Hi Owen, hows your braided oil pipe to the charger? Replaced mine a couple of years ago when the rubber inside the braid got brittle & cracked near the head end, fortunately I was home when it failed & was able to walk round to Steve Regan, Regan Motors in Winton who sourced a new pipe for me & I fitted it the next day. Mick

Thanks for that quick response, need some V power

Anybody from Poole/Bournemouth area know if Shell @ Darbys corner is open yet after re-furb?

Decided to have a look at my reversing lights (G60) that stopped working a few months ago after being intermittent for years. Fault was corroded contacts on the switch on top of the gear change mechanism, quite easy to remove just unplug wires & undo 2 x 9mm bolts & its off. Gently prize the end off, held in by 3 plastic lugs & then gently remove a rubber diaphragm to expose the switch contacts, clean contacts & spray with contact cleaner, reassemble & its fixed, works better than its done for years.

These coilpacks do seem to be a source of trouble which can leave you stranded, give me the reliable old hall sensor/standard coil/dizzy set up, so reliable its bullet proof. -
Took my G60 on the road at 5pm today, wow forgotten what its like driving when everybodys in a hurry to get home from a hard days slog, I retired a couple of years ago, after driving mostly between 10am - 4pm when a lot of people drive like they're on some sort of MPG test it was quite exiting that most people were actually getting a move on & I could use the G60s performance briefly. fun

I'm in St Anthonys road near Meyrick park & Cemetry junction, the rado gets used most days but usually only short journeys but I do come over to Branksome Tesco for the weekly shop, consequently lots of dinks & scrapes from the car park gremlins who seem to be unaware of the damage they cause. Still its the original blue pearlescent paintwork so I dont worry quite so much as I used to. Your G60 is going well at 550miles on a tank that big tank really does make a difference, does it make any difference to the performance or handling when its full?
-
There are just over 300 G60s now in Britain & the number is falling rapidly, not sure how many in the Bournemouth area but not that many I'm sure, owen g60 you dont say where you are, have you had yours long.

My G60 is 92 with late shell spacesaver spare but I'm pretty sure it has the 55 litre tank, if I try I can get about 400miles on a tank & even when indicating empty on the gauge Ive never been able to put more than about 52 litres in, the last G60s were real hybrids of old/new parts it seems.

I hope this isnt tempting fate but my 92 G60 is really running well at the moment, has had new plugs & new dizzy in the last year, I did the plugs (Bosch W6DPOs) & my local VW specialist did the dizzy (I couldnt shift the clamp bolt) & re-timed her perfectly. Man at garage said dizzy on PG motor is usually seized in place even after the clamp bolt is shifted & then getting the new dizzy to engage skew gear 1st & then the oil pump drive can be a bit tricky so I was glad to pay him for that grief. Recently she really is pulling well & I have noticed a sporty rasp from the completely standard (cat etc) exhaust when booting her thro the gears. The only non-standard bits are 68mm pulley & BBR chip & a non return valve to stop the ISV dumping boost. I have run her exclusively on Optimax/V power for years & the pulley/chip etc were fitted in 93. I have recently been thro & checked all the sensors/loom/ECU & used contact cleaner on all plug/sockets, made sure earths are good etc & all this seems to have paid dividends. 150k miles & running better than ever, oil & coolant tight after cam seal & flange replacements over the years. Cheers Mick

Well I cancelled Sky sports & movies a while back to save £40 a month & I'll be doing all my F1 viewing on the BBC, sorry Sky your just too expensive....

I think there should be 12v from the live to a good earth, ie. measured between the live of the fuel rail & the negative of the battery. The ECU switches the earth to operate the injectors. Have you tried changing the ECU relay yet?

False air getting in to the induction side, check vacuum hoses & make sure idle screw is still in place to start with.

More likely to be the blue temp sensor or its wiring

Britain would be a much better place if the government just made it easier for people to do the right (legal) thing. This applies to many things including insuring cars etc. A prime example is fly tipping, make it easy for people to take their rubbish to the closest tip & people are more likely to do the right thing. Instead they would rather introduce rules & geographical boundaries & punitive charges for commercial waste & then spend thousands of pounds trying to catch fly tippers & clear up the mess...

At last someone with a bit of common sense Transport Secretary Philip Hammond is considering increasing the speed limit on motorways to 80mph, the speed most of us drive at quite safely anyway. Could this be an outbreak of common sense? long overdue as far as I'm concerned, now we need a revue of all speed limits sopme of which are ridiculous.

My G60 has been chipped/pulleyed with a non-return valve fitted on the boost return side of the ISV since it was 1 year old, now has 145k on the clock & still runs very well, engine has never been touched & it doesnt burn any oil. This an easy & relatively inexpensive way to boost power by approx 10BHP & increase responsiveness.

Bosch part number 0 258 003 165 -760 was a direct replacement on my G60 complete with terminated plastic socket , heat resistant sleeve & anti-seize grease on threads.

You see new genuine Bosch 4w lambda on ebay for G60 for around £60, just search under Corrado, after 50 or so pages you may find one..

Road vehicles are using 11% less fuel than 3 years ago, partly due to more efficient engines but also people doing less journeys due to the cost of fuel. I would think the recent rise will be starting to show falling tax take , we must be getting near the threshold where any increase in tax & duty will decrease tax into the exchequer now surely?
-
Also things that we take for granted in our cars (heater/blower) become a problem, apparently you have to turn the heating off when batt gets low, are we going back to the 50s when a heater was only fitted in deluxe models. The more I hear about the problems the more I think battery cars are going nowhere.

Electric mini going from London to Edinburgh in hops, needs 10hrs charging for 2hrs driving, drivers of electric cars will suffer from "recharge anxiety" apparently & it just shows these vehicles just arent practical yet....
-
My advice to everyone, live close to your work if possible, we're going back to the old days when most lived within a mile or 2 of work, things will only get worse with regard to the price of fuel I'm afraid, we have benefited from relatively cheap oil for decades, people born in the 40s & 50s like myself have had a good time burning oil but it cant last, sorry guys

V-power is now approx £6.50 per gallon, that means its costing me £6.50 for fuel alone to do somewhere in the region of 25miles with mixed driving. It really is getting scary the cost of travel, watch out for dodgy characters with syphon pipes.

Spoiler not up at 170mph? someone told me they go back down again at 150mph due to aerodynamic anomalies, anyone confirm this?
