  1. The oil helps because that's what leaks out of the plastics over time causing them to fade in the first place. Obviously I'm not suggesting that it's peanut oil that leaks, but it's a good replacement. Linseed oil is also supposed to be quite good.

  3. Yes, warming helps apparently, but not as hot as something like a hot air gun. When I was researching this for doing my paintwork several people suggested using a hair dryer.

  5. Or in my case I just saw one for sale and took her home the same day :) I couldn't even drive at the time .. Edit: For legal reasons I should point out that someone I work with kindly drove the C home.
  6. I had a squeaky belt on mine when it was first delviered (so very almost no power steering), VW sold me the wrong belt but the mechanic was able to just tighten the current one so it must be possible (perhaps the pump is movable?). The belt is only a few £ from VW anyway.

  8. Do you know what you've got in your car at the moment? As in, G12, G12+ or G12++ ? I can double check the bottle in a bit, but I'm pretty sure that G12+ onwards states that it doesn't turn to jelly if mixed with other coolants. Don't take my word for that until I've had a chance to read the bottle though.
  9. I paid for a new windscreen about two weeks ago, non insurance claim, and they charged me about £10 for the new rubbers. They told me at the time they try to reuse where they can but that they replace it themselves if it's perished.
  10. Black VR6 on the A264 between Crawley and Horsham, driven by what looked like a, erm, older gentleman. Doubt it's a forum member, showed no interest in being behind another Corrado. Put a smile on my face when I pulled away from him easily in my valver, but then he was only doing about 50. (Still, it was a nice feeling) Edit: I want to say it started N316 but I'm not sure now, it's been 3 days.
  11. They have quite a few unusual ones in the collection, and a lot of very rare pre-production or concept models.
  12. If you need spares or whatever for your trip then look up http://www.dunsfold.com/ These are the people that built the 64 vehicles used in Judge Dredd, they have a pretty awesome spares collection to (I've been around the stores).
  13. Edit: In fact, where did you get that from? Dunsfold DLR have one for sale according to there website, on behalf of a customer. "A very rare 101 VAMPIRE, the only one in existence on a pre-production chassis - LHD No. 4, 1972. Tax exempt. Very good condition on brand new Michelin tyres. Rewired engine and dash panel." They also have one of these for sale "One of 64 Judge Dredd Landrovers built by DLR for the film. This particular vehicle is RHD and 12V and as is ex film set, including the 4 fibreglass wheel extensions! Also included are spare parts for the hull saved from the scrap, part of one side and half a nose cone! The vehicle is one of the rarer ones, not being a City Cab.... it is in fact a massage parlour! "
  14. Haven't seen anything that good in years. About 10 years ago I had a family friend who had an old army Land Rover fire engine, probably from the same era. That stayed as a fire engine though and we basically rebuilt the pump so it could do demo's at land rover meets. Helped he had friends at the Dunsfold land rover museum (great place if you've never been - loads of spares to)
  15. From the picture it looks like all three pins are in a line? From the reading I've done on these switches over the last couple of days (I need one) that's the right formation for early Corrados. I think for your car you need the one where the middle pin is slightly higher - I'm sure someome will confirm.
  16. Oh it's all sorted ready for the renewal, I just had to have the car when I saw it (I wasn't a driver at the time) and when I passed 2 months later I jumped on the cheapest quote possible just to get behind the wheel. (£850 TPFT, with no driving experience I didn't think it was to bad).
  17. I guess thats the difference between using brokers and just standard comparison sites. Admiral seemed quite happy without.
  18. Really? When I used the standard comparison sites for my 1.8 16V I got a whole list of quotes despite me saying it had no alarm or imobiliser. That's all changed ready for the renewal though, so hoping for big discounts :) Oh and the fact I'll have been driving a year by then.
  19. What the hell! Insurance group 12...I'm insurance group 18 (UK) or 28 (Germany) in my VR6. Surely that can't just be down to mine being easier to steal due to its age? I couldn't actually confirm what group I'm in with my 16V but Parkers have it listed as group 15.

  21. That's a no then :) Had a quote of £57 from a local garage on a labour only basis which isn't to bad I guess.
  22. While I get the joke, honest, I've actually seen dishwashers big enough to an engine :) On this occasion it may just be easier to take the expansion tank off and just put that in :lol:
  23. I'm not sure I'm really qualified to give advice, however I'll let you know what I did. Spark Plugs from AVS (VW Spares) as they are supposedly the same brand as you'd get from VW (Beru) HT leads came from Dub Power. Mainly because Halfords didn't sell them if I was honest. Again I believe AVS sell the same as you'd get from VW Air Filter from VW as it's not very expensive Fuel Filter from WV because, well, it's the fuel system and though original was best Oil Filter from AVS and Oil from Halfrods (although I'll be getting a slightly more uprated filter and oil next time) G12++ coolant (I think they're on ++ now, I know it's changed in the last month or two) from VW Oh and make sure you get a new washer for the sump plug, I didn't and I'm sure I have a (very slow) leak now. Edit: If you want to check your hoses, a general poke is the best bet. I had a leak in the top rad house but initially I couldn't find where it was coming from. A few prods later and I almost had an eye full of coolant as it had a tiny tiny hole which only became evident with a prod. I went all VW on new hoses as your only other alternative really is performance ones. Take your time on flushing the cooling system as well, I thought I'd done a thorough job until a few weeks after doing it my new, very white expansion tank turned brown. Apparently a trip round the dishwasher should help sort that and I know for next time!
  24. Temp sensors are checked by measuring the resistance at various temperatures. It's in the red Golf manual (Haynes) and I'll check the measurements later when I get home. To be honest, they're only a pound or so each so you may be better just replacing them all anyway (theres 3 of them I think?). Oh, and I'm pretty sure all 3 of them are identical so you could just swap the connetors around to test your theory about it being a sensor fault. This may all depend on your model though .. this is just experience from my 1.8 valver.

It's a tough one that, as they'd have to know that the C would come out OK of it at the end and a lot of the challenges result in dead cars (and they've said before they like the C to much to trash one). This classic car rally would have been ideal, just a shame the C isn't old enough yet otherwise they were bound to pick one up considering they had a £3k budget. Oh, and congrats, I never even noticed when mine rolled over.
