  1. The engine speed sensor fault always comes up when the engine is off. It should clear when the engine is running. It's a quirck of these engines. If it doesn't clear, a new sensor isn't hugely expensive from a decent motor factor. Cutting out while driving and difficult to start are symptoms of this sensor being bad.
  2. Still here, make me an offer. I'm travelling to Oxfordshire tomorrow if location helps anyone.
  3. As somebody else who rescued a car from a certain fate with the tin can machine all I can do is applaud you on you efforts!
  4. I'd say that the insurance "could" refuse if they found it was missing. It's illegal to remove a cat and drive the car on the public highway if the car was supposed to have it fitted in the first place. All being said and done though, the insurance company must be really desperate to not pay out if they start looking under the car. Lots of people gut their cats to make it a straight through bit of pipe that looks like a cat. Not saying this is right either, but it's not unheard of.
  5. I've got 1 11 inch Revotec fan and it keeps the engine at 92c quite easily even on a hot day. Modern slim lines are massively efficient both in terms of noise, airflow and operating power draw. My slimline will draw a max of 7 amps according to the tech info where as the stock fans are rated at something like 40 amps for half the airflow.
  6. You are the perfect owner for that car!
  7. I'm liking the all red rears on that!
  8. Not an option, use a film such as laminex to change the colour.
  9. I believe he is! I've got a man seeing what he can do first and then I'll be on to him.
  10. Aye, heard a little rumour he was prepared to part with them so I sent him my nicest pleading pm I could muster!
  11. Second hand mafs are never the best bet unless you have no other option. Ford also had the vr6 lump so maybe you might have some luck with them?
  12. That pipe seems to be in fashion with splitting at the moment!
  13. Cheers Zak, I dropped the new wheels off earlier and will get them back next week at some point. I'll just need to find some tyres and get them fitted afterwards. I'm currently looking at options for the aircon part of the climate control but until the wheels go, that's a non starter! I also got the remaining two lambdas plugged in earlier so it's now running as factory minus the sai pipework. Once this is all sorted and my bank account has returned to normal, then I'll look at suspension and brakes. AP made brakes to fit under these wheels originally so a bit more digging is required. Maybe I'll even get the bodywork sorted,
  14. Sorry just seen it's obsolete. Try the bay of e.
  15. Maf is the air mass sensor. MAF stands for Mass Air Flow. The giveaway is when you unplug it and nothing changes. If it was working it should make a normal engine sound rough when it's unplugged. Stick a wanted ad up or go and find a bosch one from a bosch auto factor or a good quality gsf/euro car parts item. From vw, the Maf is serious money.
  16. Or in my case gold on blue. Inspired by my brothers Williams Clio.
  17. Haha, very few people say keep the Corrado which is really refreshing to read on a mark specific forum. Everyone seems to happy in the knowledge that these great cars just aren't performance cars by even slightly modern standards. Kudos to the men and women of this forum for being level headed!
  18. If it's loose then when you put a load on the engine, the resistance in the plug between the pins may be enough to upset things. Is your filter a dry one or one you need to oil? Being a bit over keen with the oil can adversely affect MAF readings.
  19. You think you're unlucky? My garage door fell off earlier!
  20. Hope he can do something for you.
  21. It'll be a heatshield or your large middle silencer rotting apart. Have a good look for anything touching that shouldn't be.
  22. Looks good! Hopefully it will be a simple fix and that exhaust fits straight in :)
  23. I found a car transporter on shiply.com. Used him once officially, kept his number and now just use him privately. Text him, easiest way and good prices. £80 to move a mk2 golf from Oxford to Lincolnshire. He will be cheaper if you are happy to wait a week or so that he can drop yours off if he will be that way on another job as opposed to him making a special journey. Called David and his number is 07958 165 183
  24. Nice car. Looks to be solid and well looked after. From photobucket, Once you have the photo uploaded and you are on the multi picture screen, mouse over the picture you want but don't click it. In the top right corner a small gear will appear, mouse over that and click get links. Go down to the part that says and click on the weblink under it. That will copy the picture link to memory. Come onto this page, or any other and then paste that link in by pressing either ctrl and V together or right click and press paste. Sorry if that was a little noddy for you, I'm only trying to help :) Seriously nice car though!
