  1. Blue VR in kidderminster today by habberly roundabout, I was in a Corrola so couldn't catch up :(
  2. Did the Jabbasport hitman take everyone out before they could answer?
  3. Has anyone had a hard time declaring mods? I phoned prudential and wheels were simple enough, then the conversation went something like this: Me: I have a smaller pulley on the supercharger. Insurance man: So... I'll tick supercharger added... Me: No, it already has one, I've changed a component of it. Insurance man: OK... There's no box for that.... Me: Look can I just give you a list of stuff changed and an estimated BHP at the end of it? Insurance man: No we have to have power change for each mod... Have you changed anything else? Me: (Gave a long list of changes, must have sounded like french to him...) Insurance man: OK... I'm just going to speak to the technical staff... A few mins later Insurance man: They don't understand it either, lets just do what you suggested. They have still missed a load of stuff off- the twin inlet is down as 'air vent- bodykit'??? and everything else has gone under 'Remapped ECU'. They didn't even understand a big intercooler...
  4. How come they haven't sorted this out yet? I mean, if everyone knows Jabba and G-werks are the places to go for rebuilds, and then read all the negative stories about Jabba and the great ones about G-werks- how do Jabba get any customers for rebuilds? I guess they are about £90 cheaper for a full blend port and service but is that worth risking? I've not had any dealings with them or chargers blowing up myself, just wondered if anyone knows what they do wrong and why they haven't changed?
  5. I fitted the jabba one, fits well with minimal cutting. I think there's one up in the parts for sale thread- with rad, fan and boost pipes. If you're happy to sort your own pipes and do some careful measuring, there's loads of different types on ebay
  6. Just changed mine to include mods, work use, and fully comp- I'm 24, 4 yrs no claims, no points or accidents, next years re-newal is £803 :mad2: but I haven't shopped around yet...
  7. Oil cooler and RSR are fairly cheap and effective mods. Your oil temp isn't too high but it's best to get a cooler before you take mods further I've heard.
  8. I've fitted big FMIC now and doesn't feel to have made much difference- still got oily pipes so think I'd best get it sent down to G-werks for a service soon. Since I've put the FMIC on and will get the charger ported while it's off, would I need a new chip? These would be the only mods since the last one.
  9. Fitted my pro alloy fmic today as well as a new rad- feeling rather chuffed as I've never undertaken anything like this on my rado before  Only thing is I wasn't sure about was the wiring on the new slim fan. I'll just tell you what I can see and hopefully someone can help me out. Wanna get this sorted so I can go test drive tonight! I appear to have an 'extra' plug on the new setup and don't know which one to plug into the connection down on the bottom passenger side corner of the rad. I have 2 of these: 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdf100_1948.jpg[/attachment:voitml73] (plug 1 and 2) And one of these, pictured with the obvious socket for it: climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdf100_1949.jpg[/attachment:voitml73] (plug 3) So I end up with this: wiring.JPG[/attachment:voitml73] Which one do I plug in to radiator?
  10. My G60 has been starting up oddly the last few weeks. It turns over, coughs a bit and the revs struggle and then stalls. Starts second time OK but takes a few seconds to struggle upto normal idle. I had the timing changed recently as it was too far advanced and was pinking and the problem seems to have been getting worse since then. It used to often click and hiss and do nothing when I turned the key the first time but whenever the engine turned over it started fine. Any ideas? Was going to fit my jabba FMIC I got off ebay this weekend but I'm worrying about this now :bad-words:
  11. Worth noting- it's best to say early rados are K reg and earlier rather than 92 and before- mine is a 92 LATE rado... hence some fog light related ebay cock ups when I first got it :mad2:
  12. It's difficult to say without hearing it but sounds like pinking. Happened to me and I was sure I had something loose for a few months because I'd never heard pinking before! Check your engine timing, (mine was too far advanced). Quick job in a garage for a tenner or so. If that's OK then might be injectors, fuel pump etc. or just needs super unleaded as mentioned above.
  13. Had the timing backed off 3 degrees by garage, but engine is still pinking. Only under load as before, but the clattering sounds a lot crisper and louder than before! Does it need backing off more? Or could this be a problem with the knock sensor?
  14. If your having any rebuild or porting done on the charger, use G-werks. They are the only ones with a solid reputation! There have been a few Jabba ones that have popped for no apparent reason not long after rebuild... Mine was rebuilt at Jabba by last owner, only 10,000 miles ago and there's a lot of oil in the boost pipes already. Unless your near the South coast or fancy a trip, take the charger out yourself and post it to them. Guide on removal here: http://www.matey-matey.com/g60-rebuild-article.shtml also shows what G-werks will do with it! They do a very reasonable chip, pulley and belt kit- have a look on their site for price. If you have a smaller pulley fitted you really need a chip as well.
  15. I would have thought porting the charger will help no matter what size your pulley is  And seeing as it's not much more cost to get a full port job over a normal rebuild you might as well go for it. With a 68mm pulley the recommended rebuild is every 30,000 miles, with a 65mm it's every 20,000 I've not run a 65mm before but in simple terms you get your power lower in the revs than with a bigger pulley, and you don't wanna go anywhere near the limiter! If it's your daily I'd go with a 68mm, it's not too costly on the maintainance and will give you noticeable gains on a standard pulley. But that's just my opinion!
  16. Cheers mate! Very helpful once again  Now to sort out all the bits I KNOW aren't working... :(
  17. Cleaned my ISV and checked the coolant temp sensor today and noticed a couple of places where it kinda looks like something missing. Hopefully I'm just being paranoid.. Sorry for crap pics. There are 2 threaded holes on the front of the block, just above the Knock Sensor, anything supposed to go here? climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfImage016.jpg[/attachment:141o2q43] The other thing is what looks like an electrical plug on the underside of the rad hose, right under the 2 temp sensors. 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfImage017.jpg[/attachment:141o2q43] Image018.jpg[/attachment:141o2q43] Any ideas? :confused4:
  18. Wierd, I was just about to type the exact same thing! I have the same problem, it's only under full throttle and in gear- sounds kinda like a loose bolt vibrating but I would call it crackling.. It's been like this for a while, is that very bad news for the engine?
  19. DOH! You're right the kit does have all the hoses.. Problem solved
  20. Cheers, anyone any ideas of lengths etc. once the FMIC is on?
  21. I'm looking to buy the pro alloy FMIC from Jabba in a few weeks and figured I might as well put some nice new boost hoses on while I've got it all in bits. Trouble is I'm not sure exactly what lengths and angles and widths the pipes need to be. Anyone got this FMIC that knows the measurements? I'm guessing most people use samco, but if anyone knows any cheaper/better alternatives I'd appreciate it. I've got RSR outlet and deleted boost return.
  22. Does anyone know what correct tyre pressures should be on g60 with 205/40 ZR17 84W?? Had them put on a few weeks back, they are all on 37psi at the moment, sounds a bit high?
  23. I'd get it to G-werks. If you don't live near, (it's not exactly central) remember you can remove it and courier it down for them to sevice. You might want them to look the whole car over before modding it though, best discuss this with them. Would be daft to go porting the charger if you've got leaky pipes etc. After I had my 68mm chip and RSR fitted it blew one of the pipes clean off cos of the pressure! No idea about BHP gains, but 68mm and porting will make quite a difference for not much money- that's why it's usually the first mod people go for. Agreed, so long as you intend to keep the car for a while and keep modding it, you might as well have the R-spec porting done while it's being serviced.
  24. I have deleted the boost return! But have still got some oil in the pipes. Afraid I can't do that as it was cracked and went in the bin at G-werks when the RSR went on! I get the point about the RSR possibly causing a drop in measured boost. I've checked the pipes with fairy liquid and no obvious leaks, but haven't had a chance to jack it up and have a good look at the intercooler, is this a common place to have leaks? The pipes going in and out of it look fine though. What point is the boost measurement taken from on the MFA? Is it the very obvious sensor sticking out from the pipe just before it bends round into the throttle body? And am I right in thinking apart from having flowed heads and throttle bodies etc. there isn't any other mods to engine that could change boost? (eg. cam)
