  1. Mileage is 81k, darren said he thought the charger was in excellent nick when he reconditioned it and I know that the charger is the origonal one because all if the allen bolts still had the white paint in them when I took it off. What do you mean?

    Head Thread

Evening! When trying to take of the standard exhaust manifold the studs broke in the head - I've posted about that already. I thought I would take afew pics of my head before I sent it off (last week), and I will take some pics of the work done to the head (during the nano second between recieving the parcel and putting the head back on). It is race power motorsport who are doing the work - 8vg60 gave me their contact details. They are going to replace valve guides and stem seals, re-profile valves and valve seats, open up combustion chamber, and skim the head. I have also given my inlet manifold and throttle blody to be P&P too. All of the bores, piston crowns, and combustion chambers seem to have an even coat of oil, the car was not giving blue smoke when I took it home; is this normal for this engine? I wondered if it could just be from when i loosened the head? I am expecting the head back by the weekend - keep your fingers crossed for me! (my suspension is due in next 10 days too!)
  3. that means the roccos were still in production well after rados started - my rado, register apr 92 is a N chassis code, built feb 92. Your mums rocco must have been built late 91. I forget my point......................

  5. the current polo is the same as the current ibiza - who's predessor was heavily based on the mk2 golf, the current ibiza still has many mk2 (late 16v) golf parts.
  6. what gearbox is on edition one? 020 or 02A?
  7. The mk1 and mk2 rocco use mk1 golf parts The rado uses mk2 parts. Does anyone know when the roccos going around on H anf J plates were actually built? What chassis code?
  8. I know of someone who uses a mk2 golf in 8v and 16v form, but not either of what u mension. I saw a corrado stock car it was fast. As far as I know (or as far as the guy I know has told me) he rarely comes out of 2nd gear when he races - is this right? He did have an old 1.8v which he removed the rev limiter from (it was mechanical on the rotar arm - glue it in place). he said he could get 85 in 2nd not sustained or the engine would die, but just in bursts. He changed to the 1.8 16v, but you cant take the limiter off that - so it is not s fast even though it revs higher - what I told him to do is use the 8v box to give him longer ratios - if the wheels are spinning most of the ime it makes no odds even though on the road this would be disgusting. I cannot give you a straight answer to your question but i would guess the following: vr6 - Lots torque smoothly delivered throughout the limited range - not really a high reving engine. G60 - probably similar boat - not so much torque as vrg rev limiter at 6200 The integra probably has poorer (useless) torque through the range but high torque at top end - 8500rpm ish (thinking of civic vti here) I hope this helps - probably a load of rubbish! but it pasted 5 minutes for me!
  9. I have opted for a set of fully adjustable Leda suspension kit. You can adjust all attributes - bump/rebound/height These are excellent quality motorsport kits but retail at near £1000 I would alos like to here a review/opinion about bilsteins good kit ps9 i think - it looks the biz.
  10. It could be worth letting the boot sit on the catch, but not be properly closed so air can circulate a bit - my friends sirrocco got mouldy, but once he did this with the boot it dried up. This could have been because the car was damp to start - I'm not sure!
  11. Friday morning behind napier uni, edinburgh. Grey 16v, lowered on 16s; reg hxxx wrs. Sure I have seen it about before. Do we have a napier university corrado club?

  13. 8vG60 has put me in touch with a guy who is going to take out the studs, while he sets about the small matter of porting and polishing my head/manifold/throttle body. :D There is not a single thing on earth that will make me want to take the the head off of that PG engine ever again. I have yet to drive my car, but have spent near 2.5k on it already. I hope i like it! Will u be at Star in november brian? I better have everything done to the car by end of month so I can have the head and charger broken in - or else I loose my fiver deposit
  14. I just dont understand why he would go up to 90+ in a 30 if he wasn't trying? Although I really dont see how the golf could even come a close second! I'm confused.
  15. I was just driving back from somewhere, when I spotted a Ferrari 360. I am not sure the exact derivitive. I heard the guy boot it, it was a great sound :) . I keep on going and come up to a red light - beside the Ferrari. I saw the guy sitting in his car looking down his nose at me, but I couldn't really give a stuff - after all he drives a £100, 000 fiat. I wondered to myself - how much slower is the golf than a 'fast car' so I give the throttle a blip - mr fiat shreeks back at me! The lights changed, i dropped the clutch, and so did he - off the line he was faster, and got about a car lenght ahead, but in second and up to 80 in 3rd, he didnt really pull away much - he certainly didn't make an a*** of me like I expected! How? The golf is a 16v with a ABF tall block from a MK3, KR cams KR gearbox, and Magnex manifold and Exhaust. I woul love to have seen the guy face when his mirror was stuffed full of golf (with a really rusty bonnet  ). Ponce.
  16. When you brake the weight of the car is thrown to the front, increasing the load on the bearing - so it could be the bearing on its way out. However, I found on my last golf the 500 mls before I replaced my pads, they would make a droning as they approached the last 3-5 mm of pad - must have been a built in feature. As soon as I put new pads on, noise was gone.
  17. is the face of the hub clean? Give it a good seeing to with a wire brush. Also, the grub screw that holds the disc to the hub, is that in use? Make sure the hole in the disc is over the screw even if the head is off the srew. The above things are worth checking if not done already, but dont really fit your symptoms! I really cant think what would cause this only at light braking @ 30-40mph, as most brake realated problems are wosre at higher speeds/harder braking. I supose at high braking there is a greater load on the frwd/bckwd suspension components - this could be removing any play you get on light braking. Is the big bush in the wishbone ok? I have 2 bugpack ones somewhere, or a new wishbone from VAG with new bushes is only 50 pounds (I have not set up a uk keyboard yet after reinstalling windows - cant find the pound sign  ). hth - please keep updated us with outcome.

    Oh Bugger

I am sorry to welcome you to the 'Sunday 5/10/03 oh bugger club'
  19. I was taking my exhaust manifold off today to replace it with a supersprint 4-branch. Both of the manifold to head studs on cyl 2 sheered in exactly the same place  . Why I ask myself? As if I need that to happen. Has anyone experienced this before? The studs have sheered inside the head so they will have to be drilled out - in a machine shop. Having worked on the 16v engines before, I thought to myself, hmm I will just whip of that manifold today and throw the new won on 8) , but when I got started I realised that I hate working on the 8v engine. It is a pig  . So.... I do not ever want to have to take the head off again. I am going to get head work done now too.....because I have so much money just lying around. ....Damn...another one of those tenners just fell out of the sky right into my hand again.......
  20. Goodrige refused to deal with me direct, would not swap the wrong hoses - only offered a refund. I thought this was very poor cutomer serice. Obviously you spoke to the right person!!
  21. I am pressing, the sleevs slide out, and the bush evantually sqishes.
  22. Hi, Has anyone got this? Cannot get the front bush into the wishbone for love nor money. :x Just about everything I own has a layer of cooper slip on it. I am on the verge of cutting them in half like the powerflex ones, but want to avoid doing this if poss. Any ideas?
  23. you get this on loads of VW & Audi's, the water seals round the doors are really good, its nothing to worry about. 8)
  24. is it the same with the window or sunroof open?
