Oh, and to answer your initial thread question.....when the seal you mention came adrift on mine, because the previous guys hadn't bothered to fit a new main seal, the only proper solution to the upper seal not seating was to fit a new main seal, which involves removing the screen, which, because it's bonded means normally breaking the screen during removal and fitting a new one! Straight on the phone to Norwich Union Direct! So because the 'approved' Bodyshop cut corners, they ended up coughing up for a new screen, new main seal, and new seal you refer to. tossers! Sorry, waffling a bit tonight! As the man says, might be well worth your screen, ahem , accidentally breaking, provided they fit new seals at the same time as they replace the screen as a matter of policy.

Re. Scotts extensive post above, spot on! Corrado screens are notoriously difficult to replace, make sure you watch them like a hawk, rather than being ushered in to the free coffe/waiting area so you can't see what is going on. Had no end of trouble with my screen when a crap garage decided to do it, including the seal this thread started about coming adrift and flapping in the wind at speeds over 40mph. Autoglass (who to be fair were excellent) rectified it and replaced screen and all seals, which fixed it. They also found nice rusting score marks all around the screen aperture caused by monkeys cutting screen out and just leaving it to rust coz the screen covered the damage. Total monkeys! Autoglass Norwich very good, but country wide i guess they are all franchises, watch them carefully! Dread the day my screen needs doing again.....not a popular screen to fit in the trade, i hear

Could be worse, I have 11 years to wait! Plan to do it though, can't ever see me selling my 16v :D
-
Hmmm, could well be! Off the top of my head, I think (repeat - think) cars qualify as classic and therefore free of tax at 25 years.....worth checking m8
-
Goddam rip off! Only consolation is i plan to keep my 16v until the Road Tax is free, bit of a long wait though.........

Painted my Sebring centre caps a few months ago no probs, just took a cap off and took it in to carfactors place, chose closest matching silver i could find and some lacquer and away you go.....

Sh#t, illegal to go OVER the speed limit!, I thought it was the other way round in a C  Thought you guys already heavily involved in this thread would know how things stand legally, just thought someone else might stumble over this thread and possibly do a big spend on full set of LED bulbs in innocence! Wish the Law would catch up with style, LED's look and react so much better :( Suppose the only E approved bulbs would be OEM to fit to new cars already with LED lights from new??

Group Buy. Corrado Polished Stainless Bonnet Lifters
kvwloon replied to JasonSanders's topic in General Car Chat
Riiiight, now I'm really confused! Am interested in buying/fitting to my early 16v, but can it be confirmed 100% that the items offered will fit with no drilling/tapping required. If i wait to see how these pan out with other people, will another buy be available in, say , a month or two's time? :? -
OK, dont flame me on this as you may already know/not be too bothered, but just in case someone else reads the thread and doesn't know, fits LED's and then falls foul of 'The Law' . I was looking at fitting LED's to my back lights, as had seen and liked the instant way they light up on some newer cars and especially buses round here. However, looking in to this a bit more it seems it's not road legal to fit LED's in to vehicles which weren't originally made/approved with LED's fitted. i.e if your car doesn't come from the manufacturer with LED's in, not legal to fit LED's in place of normal bulbs. Just thought I'd say that in case someoone shells out for what are after all expensive items, then realises the situation.... Mark (runs for cover with tin helmet on! ) :)

Oops , sorry, that was partly my fault I guess  Mark (mirror/signal/hijack post!)

Yep, that's kind of worrying isn't it? the 'are they going to try and drive through me or not' feeling, Saw a great new variation ton the theme the other day, happily indicating left in the right hand lane! When are they going to introduce I.Q. tests to the Driving Test?! Only solution is to accelerate smartly away and get some distance between you and them i spose   'And what's with the muppets who indicate right before, or as soon as, they get onto a roundabout and then take the second exit (i.e. "straight on") ? Have they put that in the highway code recently??? '

No offence taken mate, I come from London originally, I like Norwich on the whole, but jeez it can be a frustrating experience living round here sometimes.... '......slow in the head, slow in the actions..... no offense Suffolk (where I live) folk are no better. Half of the people I know around here have never driven to London and think Chelmsford is near Birmingham.....give me strength! '
-
Dont even start me on driving round here (Norfolk). Roundabouts seem to be especially challenging to a lot of bog standard drivers in this area (going right in the left hand lane is always a favourite to p#ss me off when i'm going straight over in the right hand lane). Many people dont look ahead but pull up at roundabouts, becasue they dont look to see if anything is coming until after they stop. ....and i'm seething behind them. Really sets you up for a good day at work I can tell you! Mind , they do also put traffic lights on roundabouts here just to intentionally hold things up a bit :x On the subject of the 16v though, yep somethings blow you away, but as correctly said, itl'l be some modern sh#te looking box or Euro jellymould, so who cares. ....If it ain't a Corrado, it don't count! The 16v also can still surprise others on the road, I surprised two Mk4 Golfs the other day and could tell the owners were miffed as went streaming past them...they just think 'but, my VW's newer, how can that go past me?' Love it....!

Does this ECU reset procedure apply to 16v's too, is it worth doing occasionally as a good habit? Ta in advance.

Will do, many thanks for the pointer Mark

Hmm, interesting. I've had similiar things since got the car nearly five years ago. VW told me needed a new clutch, which i didn't bother doing, saving £300 + ! It's always been a bit jolty going in to reverse, which i get around by going in to 2nd initially, then it goes in to reverse more easily. However, recently, when the car and the weather are cold can be a sod to get in to first gear to move off after starting. After several tries eventually it goes in to first, and then gear changes are all fine - strange! Also, if driving along I come to a stop, a few seconds later feel a kind of mild 'jolt' through the clutch pedal. First time it happened thought the car behind had just lightly touched my bumper- odd! Any ideas please....

Nice one, am interested and have PM'd you Regds, Mark

Replaced the lift pump today, as mentioned above. Made no differecne to the buzzing from the main pump though, so am going to just monitor it a bit more before throwing more money at a new main pump as well as the new lift pump. At least now I can confirm that on my 1.8 16v 1990 /91 there are definately two seperately located pumps, coz i've seen it!
-
Hmm, just to confuse things even more, my 1991 1.8 16v has a noisy main pump (in front of the right hand wheel), seems to also have a lifter pump in the tank. I am going to replace the lifter pump in the tank hopefully tomorrow. Will post either way if this quietens the main pump down or not...assuming that is a) I dont ignite the fuel tank fumes and burn the car to a crisp, b) can get the pump in/out satisfactorily, and c) it's not raining /too cold! BTW, A quick Insurance advisory! My opinion of NUD!.... :fist: Never again will those to##ers 'quoooote me happy'

Whatever you do, dont try to keep motoring the sunroof back. It's probable that you will eventually scratch the paint on the sunroof panel, and even worse, if it jams in open position will make it all but impossible to fix it! (seriously). There is also an excellent guide on the Corrado Yahoo Group on how to fix it. Not an easy job, but not as bad as it seems at first either! Helps a lot if you have a Bentley manual to consult. Mark

'Gauge panel discontinued', but you could always make your own....have just sprayed mine up tonight ready to start fitting from tomorrow.. :D .have just about managed to squeeze all three VDO gauges in ( i.e Volts, Oil Temp, Oil Press.) Can send piccies on request if want to see how it looks..... Mark

Could be totally irrelevant, but...for ages i was driven MAD by a clunking noise from the rear. Couldn't see anything wrong underneath, exhaust/suspension etc etc. Totally emptied boot made no difference. One day noticed rear shock strut had pushed it's way through corroded spring upper mount plate (top of under wheel arch) The noise was the top of the strut, which had chewed it's way through rubber cap in boot, and was now trying to push it's way through rear speaker - hence the clunking! Might be worth a look at/under the rubber cap in the boot, at top of each shock strut. The strut top spring plates corrode very readily...luckily they are only about a tenner each.
