The wishbones are designed to bend to prevent damage to the shell / subframe. The rack may be damaged too If it goes through insurance and they allow a buy back (some don't) typical buy back cost would be 10-20% of pre accident value

Wiggle keys in the ignition whilst cranking? Are you getting 12V on the thin wire to the starter with the ignition switch cranked to the starting position?

A distributer ignition engine has 7 connections in a circle, 6 around the outside a single one in the middle. A coilpack ignition engine has rectangular in shape coilpack, it has 6 connections, 3 across the top, 3 below.

Early MK4 golf V5 had the fabric covers, if you've fitted a larger than standard battery the original cover wont fit anyway.
