  1. Overhaul cylinder head, replace timing chains+parts, replace clutch. Done in April this year at Stealth, £1,191.50+VAT. Had it done because I could, not because I had to. Sad it may be but I like certain things done before they are completely fecked!
  2. To be fair, no maybe not unreliable (mechanically anyway) but I can't rely on the C not to cost me a bit every year!!
  3. They are unreliable full stop. Whats the point of strapping a stage 5 anything when you drive 3 m and the thing blows up! One of reasons why people drive vw's are that they are built well and are reliable. Neither of these things is the Fiat. Why downgrade? Corrado reliable? Do you own one? If yours is reliable then I welcome a unique owner to the forums  I thought I should point out also that I was actually using humour in the above post, I thank you.
  4. No thanks it looks like it needs a bit of work doing. Sorry is that a touch wry?
  5. I think your mistaking the Fiat to a Daihatsu Charade Turbo :D Mechanically the Fiat is fine, just the electrics letting it down slightly, besides with the possible £10K left you could strap a stage 5 turbo to it, and sod it why not a NOS kit too, should give you an easy 400+Bhp  I assume the company are paying out for insurance?!
  6. Hmm, you've got a nice budget and you could buy more or less anything that you fancy, I personally would be looking at the Fiat Coupe V5 20v Turbo (used obviously) or maybe a 2.8-3.0 Z3 ('01+), a bit hairdressy but a great bit of fun. Definately stay away from the 4Motion, it has to be one of the most boring, slow, and boring cars I have ever driven, like all Golf's post MkII as far as I'm concerned, although to be fair I haven't tried the R32 or new MkV.
  7. mine too they often pop a few small parts into my bag when adding the total up!, and call me by my first name which is nice! Bloody hell! You sure thats a VW establishment?
  8. Yes true and Kev did get his Dremel to the culprit part which definately helped but I still have the "lift-off" problem at motorway speeds, and considering the potential speed of the C this is not good.
  9. Various breakers will sell you pump for around the £100 mark, but as I said a guarantee is all very well but if you pay a mechanic £200+ to fit it and it is buggered you won't be best pleased!
  10. Yep, to be fair the wipers are absolute shite, I am still contemplating on getting the Lupo kit but it doesn't rain much in this country
  11. Although this sounds mad, AFAIK you can purge the pump by driving at at steady speed (20mph) and flooring the brakes and then do the same in reverse. This can dissipate any air locks in the pump which can also cause errors.
  12. Could well be the ABS control unit thats buggered, cheaper than the pump and easier to fit. The pump is a pain to change and obviously buying a second hand one has it's problems especially if you pay a mechanic to fit it! Also make sure that the system has been properly bled, as this can cause pump errors.
  13. A lot of the posts so far are not really design flaws and anyway think of the poor bas*ards that have bought an Aston Martin Vanquish, now there is a car although beautiful, is full of flaws and costs £180,000. Any car has it's bad points but it is the good points which make the Corrado one of the best cars' I have ever had the pleasure to drive. STOP THIS MELANCHOLY THREAD!!!

    exhausts

Buy a rally spec Subaru Impreza, the standard exhaust does exactly what you want, although the £300,000 price tag is the snag
  15. I've already spoke to Vince about it, he said it is a bit of a pain to do and I would be looking at around 4 hours labour (about £200). Not exactly cheap but I have had a look at the job and can see why as it's all shear bolts, and if you bugger it up you won't be driving it to your mechanic to sort out!
  16. Enough play for the wheel to touch the windscreen!! Should have failed the last MOT but fortunately I know the owners son. I was lucky to get a second hand one off of an 11K C for a bargain price of £50. Thank you very much :D
  17. Check the glove box light, mine often gets turned on by stuff inside. Only a thought.
  18. Right OK back to Stealth it is then, and while I'm there they can fit my new steering column! Oh if only there was a decent period of time where nothing went wrong I would be a very happy man. :)
  19. Just a few tricky bolts amongst the 20ish and torque should be 15lb ft IIRC.
  20. Yes Dr, all of those were replaced (guides not sure about tho'), and by aux belt I assume you mean the V belt (on drivers side)?
  21. Just get one from the stealers (not sure of the price) along with new gasket and plug. Easy job, make sure you torque the many bolts to the right amount though.
  22. Yep, and definately coming from the area at the top of the V belt/tensioner, and sorry "etc" meaning chains, belt and tensioner.
  23. Well considering the chains etc were renewed only 10 weeks ago that shouldn't be the case right?? Now that would definately p*ss me off! :x

    VR6 pinking

This is the one I've got, make sure your OBD socket is the 16 pin and not the 2+2. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 48979&rd=1

    VR6 pinking

VAG-COM 409.1 (which is the one I use) is very easy to use, it doesn't give you all the extras (like Kev's!) but it is fine for basic use and will show faults and allow you to "rest" them and show you engine logs. Perfect for me as I wouldn't understand anymore info!
