You can get a "home-kit" VAG-COM lead from ebay for £20-£30, plugs into your serial port and the other end has a OBD socket for your car, free VAG-COM software can be got from the internet.

Just a quicky, should there be any noise coming from the belt side of the VR, there is a "clack-clack" noise which seems to emanate from the V belt tensioner when idling (which also clicks to the touch), is something buggered or am I just noticing things that were always there? Cheers MB

Well i am old at 44 and i say with! :D Well it's not me feeling old then, that's good! Maybe I just went OTT when I was a young pup with my Mini and now have no mod spirit left within

After cleaning my car and getting more frustrated at not being able to get my wheels looking pristine I thought hmm I wonder if my wife has something good in her cleaning collection. Out came some Cillit Bang, yes I've seen the advert and thought boll*cks but believe me after spraying on liberally and leaving it for no more than 20-30 seconds I hosed it off and WOW brand new alloys thank you very much! Unless you are willing to constantly wash off the grime and brake dust the build up can literally weld itself to the wheel, I've tried lots of auto products (most being expensive) and none come close to this stuff. I wouldn't recommend leaving it on for more than 30 seconds as it has acidic properties and don't worry if your wheels have been powder coated because mine have and no damage occured. If you do try this please try a small area first just in case :)

Maybe I'm just getting old but I am not a fan of exterior mods and think the C looks great without them, but each to their own, I personally think without.

I completely agree that you can get good results for the sub £K mark, I can get a spray job for less than £500 from a chap who lives in a large static caravan! My mate runs a car trading business and frequently uses this person, the cars look great but the overall finish (ie continuation of paint on panels) is not of the standard I would want. Basically if you want a good spray job and don't mind it not being of "showroom" quality then by all means paying £500-1000 will give you that, but if you want that showcar look (which is what I would want) then the £2000 price tag I received would be the one to go for. Although having said that I would be SO worried of stone chips etc that I wouldn't want to drive the bloody thing!!!

A local coachworks to me (who are supposedly one of the best) quoted around the £2000 mark for the complete service, this was for the same colour (mystic blue), tbh I wouldn't expect a first class spray job to be much less if any. I know people who can do mine for less than a £1000 but the finished quality would not be the same.

If your going to take your C to those buffoons at VW then save yourself (some) money and go to Kwikfit, cheaper, same results achieved and the same level of supercilious babble. Most of the so-called "technicians" weren't even born when the C was made, Stealth is definately my choice for any work taken out at the mo. I wouldn't have bought my car if it had FVAGSH, it only means neglect to me. MB

I'm not sure mate, VAG-COM reported no faults with mine, my MPG was fine and the engine runs well. I just noticed a drop in performance across the board and thought it strange. The MAF seems to work but not to its full potential, apart from trying a new one I don't think there is a way to tell how well the MAF is doing its job. Cheers :)

How can you tell if your MAF is knackered without knackering it? :-P Because I did break it!!

Kev, check the model link. Seriously mate to do what I saw this Coupe do without LSD would be impossible!! http://www.carsfromitaly.com/fiat/index.html

My neighbour has bought a Crossfire and to be fair it does look slightly better in the flesh, but this is not to say that it is still a cheap american malformed joke of a car, I hate them nearly as much as I hate the Hyundai Coupe. Oh.... yeah I prefer the Corrado. :)
-
AFAIK the Fiat Coupe was based on the Tipo platform, so a LSD would sound like a logical start! Sounds crazy for such a great handling car but I'm sure I'm right.

How to reduce BHP loss from flywheel to wheels...you tell me

Job done, a nice set of carbon graphite bicycle wheels wrapped up with some Dunlop 045/15/20 tyres. Perfect  -
Yes the new unit (fuel/temp) works fine, I haven't got a clue why the old one went mental but it did move about excessively when throwing the car around.
-
My fuel needle went mad and went past the MAX and around to finally rest on the temp needle! Seemed to happened directly after cornering very hard. New unit was about £95.

Nearly a 'rado owner........Focus RS anyone??

No disrespect to Vince who seems a wunderbar guy to have access to, but I would also recommend this if I was in the business. Of course you would, but Vince is not your typical VW git who would con his own mother, I honestly believe that he advices people correctly, and my belief of prevention is better than cure allows me to have the ultimate decision. -

Flusted how long have you owned your C as I spotted a white one nearly 2 years ago, parked outside a works place when I was on the main drag out of Sandown going to Amazon World May not be you mate but you don't see many white C's, especially on the Isle of Wight! -
It may not be the fob, Cliifford alarm receivers can sometimes go wrong, and you find yourself having to get closer to the car to activate it. Ask a Cliifford Dealer if you might need a long range receiver fitted, shouldn't cost much more than £70 (inc. fitting). If it's not the fob then this is what it probably is. Also strange I know but microwave ovens can affect car alarms, I have heard a few people having their alarms going off due to the radioactive box!!

I had my chains done 2 months back at Stealth, mine were not noisey and the car ran fine, but 100K does seem to be the general time to change them (Vince recommends this also). I believe the tensioner is the main cause for concern which can wear quite badly. I was fortunate in that my clutch did need replacing aswell so the package Stealth offer was a good one. Regarding the Corrado mate I believe it is a far smoother handling car, as the RS does sometimes want to do it's own thing in and out of corners, which I find unsettling. -

LOL yes I would love to mate, but if I did have the cash available I'd be wondering how long the engine would last, because I would always be wanting to floor it!! Seriously though you must be looking at £6000-8000 for a 350Bhp Turbo kit and engine upgrade? Like I say if I had the money... -
I do know that the Vectra's have an intermittent fault with the electronic throttle control which makes the car drive like a tortoise, apart from that sorry can't help.
-
No, it will work, AFAIK the cable isn't made for different ohm's but the thicker the better, I use to use it myself once upon a time!
-
OK everyone here is loosing huge amounts of power by the time it gets to the road, I myself am loosing 43 Bhp (so says Miss Dy Noplot) so apart from spending silly money on carbon graphite gearboxes etc is there any way to regain some of this power? And please, no quantum physics babble just plain "Yes, and this is how" or "No, and don't be stupid" Cheers people MB

It certainly looked like it was shifting when I saw one GFI, but tell me is it the limited slip diff. which allows it to accelerate in and out of corners so hard or is the chassis simply the dogs testicle pouch??!! If it wasn't for the looks (which I find an acquired taste maybe needed) I would have bought one years ago, but then I got reacquainted with a C
