Yep, no probs, thats the auxillary electric water pump, the VR needs this to assist the main pump.
-
A company who specialises in the VR should know this, don't you think?

Things can always be better, humans will always want better. I see this as a good thing, to strive for something is what keeps us interested. Lose this and you will have complete collapse. This is how we evolve, if we were content things would never improve. Although saying this I have just realised why complaining is also needed. Paradise will never happen on this earth, enjoy what there is, be grateful we're not living in the dark age. Half a dozen or so!! Yeah and hundreds with lower.

What makes me laugh is yeah, the Americans have cheap fuel (most of it shite btw) but they also have huge payouts due to privatisation and they have to put up with a baboon for a country leader. You may have to wait some time to get a hip replacement with the NHS, but it won't cost you £20,000. The Americans are known for "great white teeth", but it costs them big $$$ for the inane Donny Osmond grin. Believe me if you lived the same life you had now, same car, same house, same lifestyle, and you had to pay through the nose for everything, you would be f*cked. Yeah taxes p*ss us all off but don't be so ignorant thinking your getting nothing for your money. Dispose of you own rubbish, clean and maintain your own roads, police your own streets, teach your children yourself, take all the needy into your own home, replace your own hip! The list is endless. You pay a lot of tax, so what? You live in one of the best countries in the world, you don't have to do anything to live, its done for you, like I said if you find this unacceptable then there are plenty of countries in Africa who won't charge you a penny to live. TBH I think it simply comes down to "pay the price and stop your fecking whinging". Yes I agree it is ridiculous now and it's gonna get a whole lot more ridiculous, not that long ago smokers were saying they would quit when cigarettes got to £5 !! If you don't like paying your taxes then go on the rock & roll or f*ck off to some third world dump.

No need, Vince has already received my wrath over many oversights, I think it is time to swat up on the VR and undertake all work myself. I use to do all the work on my previous cars, only with the C did I venture out to the world of mechanics. I have come to realise there is no point, if you do it yourself you know its been done properly, and if it goes wrong you only have yourself to blame. Oh yeah, you save shed loads of cash as well.

Oh yeah, to update an update, the other problem which was affecting performance.... the vacuum "actuator" which the vacuum line attaches to on the Schrick manifold was fecked. New one bought from Ford (£20), had to adapt it to fit (tap and die job). 1 hour to fit new part, job done, train pull impression has returned. As far as I could tell the flap was only turning a minute amount. I assume the original actuator had a small puncture.

Hmm, this really does p*ss me off, this again just proves that checks are not being carried out. Underfill is always better than overfill, and obviously oil takes time before it completely registers on the stick. When I carry out an interim service I put 5-5.5 litres in, run the car for 5-10 mins and then top up to desired level. Yes again a simple mistake that could feck your CAT, totally unacceptable. Kwik-fit is looking more appealing as I type.

The reason I can't stand the dust is due to my wheels being powder coated. The dust actually eats into it, if left alone it will start to "pit", which is what happened to a mate of mine who had the refurb done some time back. This is why he now uses the Vaseline trick. I have also just seen that the Bentley Bible states exactly this. And anyway Kev as long as the neighbours know why its OK, the thought of a man pleasuring himself over his wheels would definately enter the minds of some of them

Of course Dink, thank you for the words of wisdom, but I had less fade with a set of Ferodo which I only put on pro tempore until the service arrived, bloody terrible dust, about the same as the EBC's

Squad Of Storms (or whatever the collective noun is)
StormVR6 replied to steveh's topic in General Car Chat
Maybe.....but still far more exclusive than the "normal" VR6, which I consider to be the flies on that proverbial muck :) -
Your wheels stay clean?? Please, come on !! I suppose braking would depend on the discs used, but I had terrible fading. A mate of mine applies a small amount of Vaseline to his wheels which obviously traps the dust, he then simply wipes it off and re-applies. Perfect protection for your alloys. Don't get me wrong Greenstuff are fine as pads go but they do not live up to their marketing spiel.

Squad Of Storms (or whatever the collective noun is)
StormVR6 replied to steveh's topic in General Car Chat
AFAIK the collective noun is actually a "pot" of Storms , derived in Yorkshire by locals who you will hear saying "a storm is brewing". Sorry that is pathetic. :) -
LOL, I just remembered that the green "paint" on the greenstuff literally caught fire and dripped off after I killed the brakes! After a few miles of ridiculous hard braking I stopped at a set of lights, a geezer in the left lane thought my engine was on fire, the smoke was unbelieveable  Maybe if I had bedded them in they might not have squealed like pig for evermore, then again....
-
Hmm the old Greenstuff, "hardly any dust given off, and what there is simply blows away". What a load of bollox, gives off as much dust as Ferodo and what DOESN'T blow away sticks like s**t to a blanket and if you have coated wheels simply burns away!!! Oh yeah and as for low/no fade, bollox again.

Hmm, thats the same valve I have intermittent faults with, sometimes my ABS light will stay on after the start check. AFAIK this is the most likely valve to go wrong first. A new pump will set you back £1000+ from the stealers whereas a used one can be got for £50+ I believe that the valves can literally stick which can be freed through various actions. A brake fluid change (if not done recently) is the best start, making sure the system is bled properly (airlocks can affect the pump) and there are other ways to try freeing the pump involving forward/backward braking. The unit is sealed so if you can't sort it and your ABS light doesn't go out after the initial check then a new/used one may be the only way. The ECU may be fecked also? It is worth tapping the pump around the suspect area to free sticky/stuck parts, sounds mad but I do know of people succeeding with this. Hope you get it sorted because it is a pain. As for the engine fault if the car starts then leave it! :) I know people with other cars with the same fault.

Yeah a mate of mine used a steam cleaner on his car, yes best possible finish but he unfortunately had many electrical problems there after. Due to the heat it tends to get places water can't, and a certain technician advised me once to never steam clean an engine. (Unless its an old van where the only wiring is the battery cables!!)

Not round cambs / ely / old west you dont. And red deisel is currently about 40p /l and still available. Oh..
-
Red diesel has already been phased out on the rivers, although this was only normal diesel with red dye in it. The dye was put in so as motorists couldn't use it. The boatyards sell the normal stuff at the subsidized rate but you can no longer just fill up your boat and 20 cans. You have to show your license at the counter to get the pump unlocked. Plant is still allowed to use the red stuff. AFAIK the newer boats which run on petrol are paying out more than the motorist!!
-
AFAIK the law states that if you hit and kill an animal on the road you must not remove it, only someone who finds the roadkill can remove it for the Sunday barbeque! So go out and have a mate follow you and see how you do!

Pigeons seem to be the most stupid, my brother has had three head-ons with them, I think they try to be too clever. Some time back I saw one try to fly under an aggregate truck! Unfortunately it flew straight into the drive shaft and did its exploding pillow trick
-
A BP not far from me is charging over a pound a litre for its diesel, the one from it's "Ultimate" collection! The bas*ards know every company as well as joe public are buying diesels more than ever now, so what do they do? Charge ridiculous amounts of cash for some dirty old fuel thats been syphoned out of an old dump truck in a nearby building site. I remember the days when diesel was half the price of petrol, oh and what a coincidence, there were far less diesel vehicles on the road too! Yes I know demand makes for inflation but come on! Soon, diesel cars will no longer give you the best mileage for your money, because it will be selling at twice that of petrol. And regarding the question asked, never, the Germans want all of it for themselves, I wanted some V-Max(100Ron) while in Germany and they wouldn't let me have it.

Opinions or advice on MK4 Golf 2.8V6 4MOTION ?
StormVR6 replied to BigTartanJudge's topic in General Car Chat
Of course, so shall we continue on the 205 then? As people are obviously far more interested in that!!
