1. I am currently in the process of having an extension built on the house, which will include a heated, lined and insulated garage, finished in white, with resin floor etc.. So my dilema is this. What do I build in it? I love my current Corrado and have been going the whole, keep it standard route, but I have to admit, I am realising the part of building cars I love is the fabrication, custom work, but completing it with an OEM finish where I can. I think for the first time ever I will have a "project car" which I will build up slowly in the new garage, clean and dry and then a daily for the horrible salty nasty run to work every day. This has to be something which is cheap to start, initial shell or chassis, but don't mind spending some money on it over time. So far I have these ideas... - Using the current Corrado as a base car, strip it down sell bits off and build a Mid engine, Audi V8, RWD Corrado from it, with OEM finish. - Buy a kit car chassis of some sort and gradually build something up - Buy a Porsche Bodyshell and build something very slowly over years and years.... 6. Cheers guys. I find it hard to swallow that what one person says is gospel and you have to lump it, even when I know the other houses didn't have to do the suspended floor as the same builder did those. I am clearly going to have to lump it, even removing the hedge would make no difference apparently! It's a fraction of the overall build but it's still a couple of grand out of pocket being literally poured into the ground! At least I have a nice moat now!
7. Basically he is saying because there is a beech tree hedge 7m from the foundations and the ground is clay, we are being told we have to have a suspended concrete floor, meshed and supported on the walls. What I dont understand is two houses adjacent have had the same extensions virtually and have the trees but didn't have to have the same. How?
8. I am sending out a plee for help, following a visit from the building inspector, who has looked at our foundations and proposed floor slab and is telling the builder all kinds of things are needed which the builder himself has never had to do and feels are completely innappropriate, but seems powerless to do anything. Is there anything I can do without major hassle or upset to the building inspector/builder as this is going to add significant cost to the build. I have a number of queries over the process and rationale, but don't have the knowledge to back them up. Can anyone help?? Cheers Jay
9. 33 and on Corrado no.5. Had them on and off since I was 19. Jay
10. So after intending to leave the C alone a bit while we focus on the extension, typically on the way to work the other day my coolant level light starting flashing, so topped it up with water and drove home. Next day on the way to work it starts flashing again. OK, a consistent leak somewhere, traced the brown stain to the heater matrix pipe off the back of the block and thanks to WesleyVR6 mentioning he knew one was in stock at VW I was able to get a genuine one yesterday on the way home. Cheers guys :). All fitted in about 5 mins and the reason for the leak is pretty clear to see... Back to a water tight cooling system hopefully. I guess the new water pump I fitted a while back is finding the weak points :) Oh and then last night the rear window in the X5 decided to drop inside the door so tonight's job is a new regulator for that. Typical the week the garage goes, thank god its not raining! Jay
11. Well the Corrado is going to be taking a bit of a back seat over the next few months as this week our house extension was started. A part of which is a nice new garage :) So I said goodbye to the garage in the back garden.. Roll on the new one :) Jay
12. Jim, I am afraid I need these gone this week. FREE to anyone who can collect from Wilmslow this week, ideally today. Jay
13. True, but the current one has electric recaros ;) Jay
14. Nice one, cheers Paul. Will sort my tickets when I get home on Saturday. Jay
15. One the best Corrados have electric recaros ;) Long time no speak fella, hope you are well. Jay
16. Yep, just replace the tired old rubber inserts with the fresh poly ones and the metal disc as required. I took feedback from the first group buy of the rear mount adding a touch of cabin vibration at idle, which I agreed with and softened the mount slightly. Since that everyone seems happy :)
17. ^^^^^^ what he said, but make sure you put the yellow insert in the lower front mount. Jay
18. Well the vibratechnics ones are polyurethane too, so should compare very favourably, plus IMHO the VW design is better in principle as it will never break. The other difference is the price, front and rear mounts done for half the price of one vibratechnics mount. Jay
19. That's definitely the rear mount, it probably looks odd as it hasn't got the lower section on it in that pic. Jay
