anybody in bristol fancy making a few quid?
CazzaVR replied to robtalbott's topic in General Car Chat
Rob, what else do you need doing? -
Yep, Galaxy V6 :)
-
I've got a 65a in my 1.8 16v.
-
Best 16v I;ve ever driven- smooth power delivery, with a nice amount of torque. The unadjustable column adds another dimension to the car- feels so much more tight and solid than the adjustable columns 8) Defo want to go with a 2.0 bottom end at some stage- will have to pick your brains re that one, Dave :)
-
Defo sounds like the mount...

Jake, don't bother using secondhand bits- total false economy, especially with rubber parts! Just wait until you can afford to do it properly- much less hassle. Can't remember how much it cost- wasn't that much- an hours labour + parts. They are very good on price + they sourced the genuine parts. Tell him I sent you ;)

Blake services in Stroud did mine before- disn't take them long at all- give 'em a call :) Make sure you put VW mounts on, pretty sure you can put VR6 ones on- worth doing especially as you're changing the suspension soon ;)
-
Yup. By the way, if you need to replace any of these bits, get them from Ford ;)
-
Another for fuel pump!
-
Pretty easy to take off- just take your time- other wise you'll pull paint off with them! Get them really warm with a hairdryer- start at one end. Have plenty of hot, soapy water to squeeze behind the trim when it starts to come away. Done this on a couple of my Corrados and they've all come off perfectly.

What part(s) do you mean exactly?

Anyone know if a steering lock from an adjustable column will fit a non-adjustable column? Ta :)
-
You can swap the chips over, but the barrel for immobiliser equipped cars is different to normal- I guess because it needs to have the immobiliser ring fitted around it  May have to just have a look around a scrappy for a late 1990s Golf or Passat, and see if they have the parts.
-
Anyone know if any other cars used the same immobiliser barrel and non-adjustable steering lock? Would be best to try and get the whole lot including key from one car I guess.
-
Thanks mate, problem is getting hold of one. They are ££££ from the dealers :(
-
Yup 8) Lovely car, but not for keeps. Wish I could afford it as a daily...

Have bought a 1994 Corrado 8v that has a broken steering lock and no ignition barrel. The immobiliser ring is still intact. The car starts and runs perfectly with the original key (with transponder chip) taped inside the immobiliser ring, whilst using a screwdriver to activate the ignition switch. I just can't work out what to do to get it fixed. Obviously, I need a new steering lock (for adjustable column), but not sure what to do about the barrel. Presumably, I'd need a new barrel, but am I right in thinking these can't be re-tumbled? If this is the case, the original key will be redundant. Is it easy to take the chip out of the key and put it into a new key? On Vagcat there are two barrels- one for the immobiliser (much more expensive). What's the difference between the barrels? Are there any other options? Is it easy to code new keys? Was hoping this would be easy to sort :( Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Jim, drop daves16v a pm- he made me a rear Magnex bracket a couple of years ago, that was better quality than the Magnex part! -
Really liking the BM, Karl! Looks like a fantastic find 8) Make sure you come along to a Corrado meet sometime, so we can all see it in the flesh...

Forgot to say- spotted an early left hooker on my way out of Thornbury on Wednesday lunchtime- exchanged waves :)

Swompy's Ice grey violet. Now gone to a new home

Those look just the ticket- nice one Jake! -
Indeed! :)

Not quite as simple on the 9A, as the fan bracket/cowling gets in the way of the top bolt on the mount. You just need to undo these to give you a few more mm room. The top bolt can also be very stubborn- had to use Irwin bolt grippers and a breaker bar to get one off. Still pretty simple though. Took 30 mins on my KR (more space to get a socket onto the top bolt), just under an hour on Swompy's 9A (could do it much quicker now!), because of all the faffing about.
