Well, I'm a bit of a muppet  I didn't leave the MAF unplugged long enough earlier. Tried again when I got home and the engine died after leaving it unplugged a bit longer. So, not the MAF I guess. Think I'll have to give the lambda a test as Kev suggested. What's the best way to tackle this? Get the front up on axle stands? How much will one of these voltmeters set me back? Ta!

If those things don't sort it, take it to a real specialist like Stealth or AmD. It's worth travelling. At least phone them up and have a chat about the prob. My old VR wasn't running right and I took it to 3 garages, spent loads and it still wasn't fixed. Took it to AmD and they sorted it in less than an hour and gave the car a good check over to boot.

Hmmm, thought that meant the MAF was knackered :? I tried it a few months ago (before cleaning the ISV) and the car just died when I unplugged it, whereas now it just carries on running.
-
Thanks Kev. Just unplugged the MAF and the car kept running :(

Looks like I'll be taking it along to Volksline in Canterbury- something's definately changed with the car.
-
Do a search re exhausts- been done to death! We have a large Scottish contingent on here, so I'm sure someone will be along shortly
-
That's terrible :( Really don't know what's wrong with some people. Hope you get it sorted soon.
-
Anyone?

Basically the car has been idling a bit up and down and the revs are a bit up and down when changing in low gears. It's not terrible, just annoying. Also there's been a significant drop in MPG. Normally get around 30 on the way home- I'm now lucky to get 23-24 :( Lambda? Any ideas? Anyone with VAGCOM in Kent? :? Cheers!

The one on my last valver split, and the car sounded sooo loud it was untrue!

Was followed home once by a bunch of chavs in an Escort- down several streets and then through the garage block, to the garage. I got out and walked towards their car with my handbrake lock in my hand  and they did a U-turn and sped off at high speed. Went straight out and bought a really heavy duty padlock for the door

80 is pretty low. Anywhere between 90 and 110 is the norm. Obviously if you're really caning it you could see 110+.

Oops, just posted without logging in

Thanks Luke (Deako)- very quick payment and smooth transaction. Cheers.

Yep as FurkiG60 says the wheels can be buckled under the tyres (especially with crap makes), so you can't tell just by looking :( Check the easiest things first and rule them out one by one- hopefully you'll find the culprit straight away.

After-market alloys? Had some really badly fitted 17's on my first VR that caused the car to vibrate at around 80mph. Apparently the spiggot rings were for a completely different car! Changed the wheels and it never happened again :)

Would certainly buy one for around a tenner. Definately think there should be a montage page (or 2  ) of everyone's cars.

Thanks to Phil (Phaserno1) for the badges :D 8) Speedy delivery and in good condition. Cheers!

I used Hammerite too, and a medium/fine brush. REALLY easy mod and they look sooo much better. Takes an hour or two.

From personal experience: G60- short journeys: 20-25mpg, long journeys: 33-38mpg 2.016v- short: 25mpg, long 34-40mpg (got figures like these on both my valvers, although my first one was a little more economical than the second). You should get cheaper ins quotes for the 1.816v as it's gp 15. G60, 2.016v and 2.08v are gp 17. VR6 gp 18 and Storms are usually 19! HTH

Try GSF or your local stealer for a standard exhaust. Not sure of cost- shouldn't be too steep. If you want stainless go for Supersprint, Magnex or Milltek. Supersprint will probably cost around £400, the other two £300.
-
Will do :D Certainly looks that way- I've just bought a house in Wotton-under-edge and will be moving down in the summer :D
-
Sounds exactly like mine, mate :?
-
He he... I get both noises  I often get the ABS self test noise (had this on all my C's except the G60) and also get more of a low pitched metallic groan pulling away slowly in first gear. Sounds the same as kebabman's prob. Is this the release bearing? How much to get it sorted? (roughly)

bristolbaron, are you in Ciren often? I'm usually around in the holidays to see my folks- keep an eye out for a black VR with Solitudes and FK rear lights  :D
