Hi, This might seem a bit of a lame question, but hey-ho... I'll be giving my VR6 a good service soon, and the fuel filter (which looks like it came off the Titanic), is getting replaced. Usually the week before a big service I put a bottle of fuel system cleaner (redex advanced) through, to get the injectors etc. in good condition before the ECU reset (as part of the service it will probably need a new lambda, hence the reset). Now, as the fuel filter looks so old, am I risking flushing a load of gunk from the filter into the engine? Should I wait until after the service to use the system cleaner? Or I suppose I could change the filter first, use the redex, then do the service the week after? Or am I being a bit of a puff? Opinions welcome! Dave

Back in my day.... Hold on, it still is my day. Feck off wrinklies !!! (Joking)

Looks great! :salute: +1 on getting rid of the tints though. Also, I would think twice about going to 45 profile tyres with coilovers - I've moved to 50 profile and the ride is MUCH more comfortable.

Good result! Here's a question... Would you bother driving for 10 miles to get 98 or 99 RON (V-Power), or drive for 1 mile and get 97 RON (Esso Super). Is the extra miles worth it, or is 97 RON enough?

Weight also varies massively between brands, irrespective of mild or stainless. I bought a jetex mild system for the Golf, and it weighed more than Jupiter. Built to last though.

In terms of the stuff readily available from Halfords, I've used a few and the Turtlewax Platinum Cleaner/Conditoner is good and cheap-ish too.

The kit is about £20, and a mechanic will probably charge you something similar (unless you know where you can get a freeby!), so its up to you. I would go with the peace of mind of using a mechanic. If you drive the car and it uses all its coolant, the overheating could warp the head, making the repairs more expensive. It could also damage other gaskets etc. When my Mk2 had blown its gasket, it would use all its water in about 45 mins, so as long as the journey was very short, I would risk it, but its up to you. :norty:

Hi, When I tried to do this a few months ago, it made more sense to get them on separate policies because each policy would accrue its own no claims bonus, which combined with a very limited mileage policy meant that the overall cost would be lower after a year or two, but maybe you will have better results. The cheapest multicar I found was admiral, but Direct Line won in the end. The other option is temporary insurance cover when you want to drive the other car (depends how often you do this?). I had a car (E30 Beemer) that I only drove very occasionally and Direct Line would insure it over the phone for around £10 a weekend.

I had a Mk2 16v GTI for three years before my Corrado. In short, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another. I loved it. In comparison with the Corrado, ignoring the obvious stuff like interior, acceleration etc, the Rado feels like "a serious motor", whereas the Golf was more "lighthearted and fun". I would buy an 8v the next time round though: More choice, cheaper, better mpg, very little speed difference unless your thrashing it, and the engine management system is more robust (16v is mechanical K-Jet which is fiddly to optimise).

Thats definitely water vapour out the exhaust on the video, but it could just be condensation, especially in this cold weather. 50 degrees isn't really hot enough. Take it for a run and then see. Another tip... Get a big brown cardboard box and unfold it, then put it under the car (park somewhere dry-ish). It will help you double-check for drips. On my old Mk2, it took me ages to find a leak, but this found it straight away.

I would guess headgasket too. Before you take the cooling system to bits, it might be worth getting a pressure test done first maybe? (won't be expensive).

£75 inc VAT. Top quality service, highly recommended. Takes about an hour but theres a decent reception area to wait in. Plus they give you a before and after print out of the all the readings. The only thing I would say is that with the Corrado suspension there is very little they can change on the rears, and there is only camber and toe at the fronts that they can realistically alter, so in essence the extra £50 on top of a normal alignment check just buys you a camber check. I guess it also makes sure that everything is in order suspension wise, which is no bad thing. The car feels very stable now though. If I let go of the wheel the car stays straight and true, whereas before it would wander. COLOUR = Porsche metallic grey apparently. Might go back to silver eventually.

In a bid to massively increase the comfort levels for my daily commute, the 17's have been binned, and replaced with solitudes. The reduced wheel size, huge reduction in unsprung weight, and much more tyre "squish", combined with a brand new set of Michelin Pilot Exaltos and a session at Imperial Tyres for full 3D four wheel alignment has transformed the car. I don't think it looks quite as good as before, but I like it, and the way it drives is night vs day - its so much more comfortable over bumps/potholes. The 17's would have been fantastic on a track day or something like that, especially as theres so much more tyre choice at that size (888's etc.), but my journey to work is mostly country lanes. The Pilot Exaltos are fantastic by the way - wet weather grip is phonomenal and aqua planing has been eliminated, even in fairly deep standing water. There is very little choice for 205/50/15's, so this was the best option I could find. £100 each though (fitted). The 195/45/15's on my Mk2 golf were half that price!!!

Hi, I've posted about this before - I went to Thruxton earlier in the year. Its very well run. We did the Mada RX-8 racing tuition, and it was much cheaper than the super car stuff, but you got 21 laps with a pro race driver in the passenger seat giving you advice. Seriously, much much better value than the supercar stuff, but then I've not been to any track days, so maybe you've been there, done that, and want to drive an exotic. All I would say is that by the end of the 21 laps getting to know the circuit, I was overtaking the Ferrari 355's and singleseaters with gay abandon! Thruxton have changed there pricing. The most similar one I can find to the RX8 is this one: http://www.thruxtonracing.co.uk/experie ... a_mps.html Bit of a shame - the RX8 was an ex-touring car, whereas the MPS looks a bit "suburban". PS... There is a 10% discount code available on the web for booking thruxton online. Also its fecking freezing at Thruxton - wrap up warm!

The worst bit is that after a couple of years of depreciation, a 30mph bump that bend a few panels and sets off all the airbags could write-off a GT-R. :gag:
-
The funny thing is there was one of these at work yesterday: ...The bonnet line was almost at chest height. Makes the pedestrian safety measures that have been enforced by the various governmental bodies on the GT-R (of which there are very, very few examples in existence) seem laughable.

Nissan GT-R Brain Storming Session: "How about if you brake too hard an ejector seat blows the roof of the car off and fires you to safety, torching the entire car in the process?"

They look great! As they're reps, give 'em a good coat of ultra tough wax like collinite or Poorboys Wheel Sealant to help prevent any issues.
-
Giggity giggity. Congrats on the pass.

Pedestrians have nothing to fear from me - I've got a later spec Rado with a nice bonnet bulge for them to headbutt (lets just ignore the hulking VR6 cylinder head a few mils beneath it) :norty:

Excellent link. I have a seething hatred for almost all modern cars - I love the way they drive but hate how they are loaded with irritating tat. The most recent irritating thing I heard was a guy at works Vauxhall Insignia turns its full main beams on at night automatically, unless it "sees" a car in front of it, in which case it dips automatically. So if he's say, 300 yards behind someone on the motorway, full beams (xenons) come on, blinding the poor b#gger in front of him whos still near enough to be dazzled. The more I hear about Nissan the less I would buy one. A mate who used to own a 350Z - one of his alloys developed a tiny crack (purely through use, no curbing or anything) within a year of buying it. Nissan charged him just under £1,000 for one new wheel when it should have covered by warranty!!!! :pukeright: Makes me want to go out and give the Corrado a hug...

I think you might mean drive shafts ??

Hi DH, nice to see you on this forum. I'm going down a similar route, albeit with comfort in mind for my daily commute - I've just fitted the original solitudes with some nice squishy tyres (replacing ultra low profile rubber bands on heavy 17" wheels), and the difference is monumental. Having said that.... Get it washed and waxed ya lazy geet!!

I would like to hire you for long journeys, as my reception is a bit pants. How much per day?
