  3. +1 for fickle engine - they need to be setup right. Mine is currently flat as a pancake, and its simply due to the battery going flat over the weekend, and I haven't had time to properly reset the ECU/basic settings. You need to do this while the engine is warm, but I did it when it was stone cold, and on cheap 95 ron fuel, and have lost a lot of BHP as a result. Simple way to solve your concern is to test drive another one! And for gods sake give it a good rev this time!

  5. I may be completely wrong, but I thought the R32 had uprated spring/dampers and a quicker rack as well.
  6. One weekend when the missus was away I wrote a Corrado job list of about ten things to get done over the two days. In the end I got about three jobs done. :( Just getting the car in the garage, jacking up, on axle stands and wheels off takes me about 30 mins alone.
  7. B@stardo! How do you know I'm eating a burger! :lol: Shame. I was hoping for a similar BHP gain to using Dodo Juice wax, i.e. between +40.2 and +43.4 bhp per layer (soft wax only, I've not got any data for the hard waxes).

  9. Just caught up with this. What a totally pile of sh!t. Feel gutted for you. It could have been a lot worse though I guess, especially with a few tonnes of 4x4 bearing down on you. :pale:
  10. It was a five or six years ago now, so hopefully they've improved. The worst thing they let me down on was in the middle of winter during a long journey the passenger window mechanism snapped, dropping the glass into the door. Green Flag wouldn't come out and help, saying that the car "wasn't technically broken down" (it was sub zero temp's before a 70mph wind chill :gag: ). My passenger had RAC cover and they were there in 20 minutes and got the window up in ten. My mum, (also in the car at the time) was so embarrassed/angry that she rang up Green Flag there and then and cancelled all our policies (it was a family cover type thing).
  11. After Green Flag completely let me down on two occasions, I swapped to the RAC and having called them out 3 times in four years, each time receiving excellent service, I would never use anyone else - they are fantastic.

I love the Mk4 R32 - one of VW's best looking cars in my opinion, but having said that I wouldn't get one unless you live in quite a nice area and can park it safely at work, as having known a few owners they are trouble magnets in every sense - boy racers, theft, scratched (out of jealousy), the parts alone are worth a fortune (bumpers, seats, wheels etc.) etc. I hate to say it, but if it was my money, and I could get my head to rule my heart, I would be buying a Mk5 GTI instead. Faster (except for in the wet maybe!), better chassis, much better rear leg room, safer, cheaper to service, better on fuel, similar money to buy... Although it wouldn't sound as pant wettingly good :grin:

    All you need to do is buy the rest of an M3 and the steering wheel will screw straight on with little or no modification. :lol:
  14. Love these cars, not that keen on the green colour, but thats just me. That most of them are auto's always puts me off, so a manual is a cracking find!
  15. Have to agree with that..... ....because nearly all 'top of the range' cars of each marque have 'image problems'. Mitsi' Evos, Imprezas, Golf GTIs and R32s, Focus STs, Porsche Boxster, et al. All perceived by the public as having an image problem, ignore them. It's always the people who can't afford to own or run these cars that seem to be the most vocal with their opinions. Personally, I've never thought an E46 M3 was chavvy or had an image problem. They sound like a bucket of bolts at low rev cruising and not as 'cool' as an E39 M5 imo, but aside from that it's an immense machine, especially in run-out CSL flavour... but that's way off budget. Do they use solid lifters or something? I may be completely wrong, but I read that first post as being on about the E36 M3, not the E46 :shrug: Surely theres not that much image problem with the E46??!? Plus I would have thought you would struggle to get one in budget thats not on astro-miles? The E36 M3 is an immense machine - around 100bhp more than our C's but with more or less the same displacement - but it now has a HUGE image problem (a bit council estate). Shame.

  17. I find it really hard to recommend Japanese cars too - I know they are cracking motors, but something about them doesn't float my boat. Its probably the 2 Fast 2 Furious image in my head. For example, my mate had a S2000 and it was great (if a little too hairy at speed in the bends) but the cabin was absolutely shocking for the price - choclate box tray plastic everywhere, and the VTEC effect felt like extreme turbo lag.
  18. I think in the £10k price bracket I would be hard pressed not to buy a Mk5 GTI - such a rounded performance car, but if practicalty isn't a factor a nice TT or Z4 would be an option...
  19. My ten pence worth... AG Paint Rennovator is very harsh (more than T-Cut IMO), and left hazing when I used it by hand - although effective, it needs a lot of SRP buffing afterwards to repair the marks. I would much rather use a machine combined with a very mild polish - remember if you can even use SRP with a machine if you keep the pad moist etc. If, like me, you are a complete novice, I would be happier taking my time with a mild polish than using an abrasive. I'm 99% certain SRP will layer if the second/third layers are not "polished", i.e. just applied lightly then buffed. This will give you more swirl filling. The best swirl filling I've seen was Bilt Hamber Autobalm - doesn't bead as well, but the tests show its EXTREMELY resilient. As for protecting polished red paintwork, FK1000p sealant has ultraviolet protection (apparently), and pretty hardcore durability. I would be going for three coats of FK1000p on red paint to help prevent re-pinking.

  21. Waste of money IMO. More frequent changes of the normal bosch plugs will be better/cheaper.
  22. Crap, I've got that coming on the way from lovefilm. Looked really good, is it really that pants? Scorcesee [spelling?] and De Caprio should be a good combo?
