Can I bring my subaru powered Baja beetle and put it on the stand ;) its still *mostly* a VW  -
I had this problem on my old valver, turns out there was a little cap on the PCB for the dash that had blown and needed replacing, it was easy enough to replace. In your case it sounds like the switch has been damaged though rather than something more complicated like mine!
-
Mine failed on this at its last MOT, needed to cut a small section out and make a repair, easy enough to do, the only difficult bit is if you have to cut a part of the wing out like I did where the angle changes slightly so the replacement metal needs to be a bit creative to get the shape back.

The "what I did to my Corrado today" thread...

Reached a milestone! [/url] -
Just a word of advice, double check which one works with your car. I've got an ELM 327 which only works on the various fords I've worked on, it doesn't work on the Corrado (which is only OBD1 anyway so wouldn't regardless) nor my legacy engined beetle, the VW 409.1 cable however works on the Corrado and the Subaru ECU. I bought a cheap ELM bluetooth one and although it connects to my phone and can be seen over bluetooth it doesn't communicate, that's both using Torque and Dashboard etc.
-
Try VW spares, they had some in stock when I was looking to do mine, are you looking for front or rear? A friend at work's brother in law works for TPS and they were still able to get the rears for me, not cheap mind.
-
Wow lots of responses, thanks guys, more than I thought  I've seen various new carriers, both Corrado/MK2 and MK4 Golf but with the relatively cost of getting the parts to refurbish them (new sliders etc) it would be cheaper to get a second hand and replace the bits that might be damaged. I'll see what Dave has to offer as he responded first and go from there :)
-
As the title states I'm looking for a set of rear carriers (or the whole caliper if the price is right for a whole set) for the mk4 golf calipers. They are not for the 'rado as I already have them fitted but for my '69 beetle. I know when I did my rear conversion they came with the carriers but didn't fit the stub axles so I mated the corrado ones with the calipers, unfortunately I have since lost, or thrown out, the carriers so I'm hoping on the off chance someone has gone down the same route and not used the carriers, or if someone has a full set. WHY, thanks.

Hey all, as the title suggests I'm looking for a Sherry Pearl drivers wing, its for a '94 if age makes a difference - not sure if they changed design slightly after the facelift. Mine is rotten!

Cool, I've got red dials, blue LCD (reversed), red switches, blue ABS, blue climatronic LCD (reversed) with red buttons, blue stereo...can you see a theme  I'll take a photo and post it up later of all the coloured goodies! For the strip light it doesn't really matter, there's a few different options and chip sizes. They're all 12v. I'd go for 60 led/M in either 5050 or 3528 chips. I can give any help if needed, I made a set for a guy on the forum a while back (the blue ones).
-
12v as per everything else on the car. The 1.8w is the wattage of the bulb and irrelevant if being replaced :) which compared to an led (which is usually only around 0.2) shows how much of a difference they make. Also LEDS are generally measured in lumens which is at a fixed focal point, what you need is lux which is amount of light given off - bit of useless info there, but for spaces where a wide angle is needed it is interesting to know.
-
Unfortunately not no (or at least I haven't found any), as mentioned above the OG bulbs are a 509t style reverse fitting but factory modified for the 'rado. The standard 509t bulbs fit (albeit a bit fiddly) as they have connections top and bottom like the OG (the 'rado flexi-PCB is on the inside on the cluster) but unlike the OG ones, have to be fitted from behind (removing the cluster) whereas the OG ones can be fitted with the cluster in situ. Can I just ask are you going for LED because of a colour change or lack of original stock bulbs or similar? I only ask because the LED bulb has a narrow beam angle vs a standard incandescent bulb and the throw isn't that great, even with a flat top LED, hence the reason for fitting a full strip on mine.
-
You can't remove the original (incandescent) bulb from the holders and fit an LED (they are like spot joined to the connections, not soldered). The LED will need a resistor (thus taking up too much space) and the LEDs don't solder very well to the connections (at all). Believe me I've tried. I've simply run a piece of coloured LED tape along the top replacing the 3 bulbs and the coloured diffuser, works so much better. On my valver I used a cold cathode tube which worked well also, however took up more space and needed the ballast which needs space as it can get hot. They're actually red in my VR but this was a set I made for someone in blue:

Doesn't matter on the layout (chances are someone had removed the accumulator or similar as they often rot out), its the same size pump. The 8v is smaller.
-
Thanks, not in a massive hurry mate.
-
I *think* and don't quote me, that it was there for the lighting for the pods if you had them that went in the cubby hole.
-
The 9A is a 16v engine, it doesn't matter whether it is KR or 9A as they are both 16v and they used the same setup, only the 8v engine was different.
-
Hey guys, potentially looking for a (working obviously ;)) external fuel pump with the surge housing box, for a 16v engine. Let me know, thanks! :)
-
I appreciate that, and wasn't compared it, my comment was based against removing items and refitting other parts just for it to pass an mot. There's a chap in Sweden who has got an old Series 1 XJ6 Jaguar with a XJR6 supercharged engine fitted, every 2 years when it has its MOT he takes the supercharged engine out and puts the old one back in just for the MOT in order to pass regulations!

Yeah suppose, we need to create a new one, they all look the same nowadays ;) The 195 is the actual tyre width, bearing in mind that most rims fitted to tyres sit within the 'well' so to speak. 15mm either side sounds about right I think. I have some general grabber off road tyres which are going to be fitted to my Baja Bug, they're 10 inch wide I think but the inner lip/bead measured at around 7 1/2-8 or so, this is then perfect for a 8 1/2 - 9 inch wheel (taking into account the thickness of the wheel lip). Being off road tyres they're more suited with a bigger sidewall, close to 1 inch reverse stretch haha! The 50 then refers to the side wall height, as in 50% the width as the height, and 15 is the rim diameter that it takes. It's a bit mental using both metric and imperial and random percentages to give you tyre sizes ! The controlling the side wall, with the wider rim it pushes the sidewall out slightly, bringing the angle closer to 90% which would take less stress on the sidewall when in a straight line, obviously when cornering the lateral movement will push the sidewall, thus moving even closer to 90% (depending how far it was to begin with) if that makes sense?

True, however I doubt we'd see much of this happening, even if we're all aware of it. As it is since the removal of the paper tax disc the number of vehicles not taxed has almost doubled, there's less police out patrolling (I believe there were talks about abolishing the beat also) and everything is being controlled by ANPR cameras which, if those numbers are anything to go by aren't even doing a good job of controlling tax evasion. I think its just going to be one of those things, and will hopefully phase out when the next stupid modification hits the scene. I'd gladly be proven wrong, I think Sean hit the nail on the head though, its the attitude that goes with it, and unfortunately they probably already know its dangerous and/or now illegal but simply don't care.
-
But that's no different to decatting and then refitting it just for the mot. As you say, there won't be a way to police this.
-
Life's not too short when a tyre bursts and you have a serious accident. Also what does 'be rate pal' even mean? My brother when he was younger had a tyre blow out, this was on standard tyres with no modifications at all, before this whole tyre-stretch craze happened, the blow out surprised him (it being his first car and not very experienced) causing him to lose control, hitting the embankment, thus causing a second tyre blow out and spinning the car. The car was a total wreck, suspension knackered engine mounts destroyed, with the sat in the middle of the road, thankfully there were no other cars around otherwise it would have been a different story. If you want to run stretches tyres way over the limit, I'm grateful I don't live near you ;)

Switches are soldered 3mm LEDs on the PCB.

Audi 80/90/Coupe seat tilt handles are the same....but they're just as hard to get hold of! I've got one from a polo fitted to my drivers side as it broke many moons ago and I just nabbed one from a breakers yard!
