g60jaime's G60... recommissioning for the road
g60jaime replied to g60jaime's topic in Members Gallery
Yeah you can see it was a designed piece for the car. Does it have a noticeable effect running it without? In other words, if I don't refit it will it be noticeable? Thanks for your compliment, it'll be having some paintwork over winter to bring it up to scratch thanks to lacquer peel. -

Does anyone know what this mystery block of iron that weighs a ton is about was bolted to part of the front subframe to gain access to the exhaust manifold? Needed? -

So the last few days have seen the head taken off, revealed blocked water veins in the block, manky head gasket, bore wear commensurate with 119,000 miles (but all even), numerous leaking gaskets to manifolds and rocker cover, 3 of the 8 hydraulic lifter seized. Got a G60 specific Newman cam and new lifter set, taken for fitting to the head to Modus http://modusengineservices.co.uk in Langton Green/Tunbridge Wells. But first they'll be doing a full reconditioning of the head, plus include port matching of the inlet manifold. Got a Hella OE radiator last weekend too... -

Well after being put aside for two and a half years SORN because of the MOT failure work to get her back on the road is just starting. The whole cooling system is being renewed, including Samco Classic Black pipework, radiator and heater matrix, header tank, slimline fan. Mocal Oil cooler being fitted and junking the water jacket. PWR charger cooler being fitted in replacement of the standard intercooler. A 4-branch manifold and new exhaust system is in preparation, with solid front engine mount. Audi S2 G60 twin pot brakes for the fronts, with Goodridge braided brakelines everywhere else. Plans to renew all bushes with Polybushes. There are plans for a Cam, probably a Newman item. Over the winter she needs paint to fix small rust and lacquer problems. And the BBS will be split and built up with 16" inners and outers from some OZ Vega' I've had in storage since SORNing. Best get busy, but no rush ultimately. -
Don't quote me on this but I think you can replace the rack with a polo variant, it would however mean you'd loose the adjustment feature of the Corrado's rack but gain better feel... Search it, something should come up. ---------- Post added at 5:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 5:48 PM ---------- http://the-corrado.net/showthread.php?41317-fitting-a-non-adjustable-steering-column-%28how-to%29&highlight=polo+rack

Would you do them for £50 posted?

Thats what I thought. Just wanted to be sure. How does this spacer affect the fitment of the wheel if the wheel isn't supported on the hub flange, if at all? Cheers
-
Don't suppose these are hub-centric being 5mm are they? If they are I'll take em...posted. If not, I'll think about it.

Good condition as far as I can remember. Been in storage for ages, not used it as I've got any early spec interior... I'll dig it out if you are interested. Where are you in the UK?

Looks like a really good thorough job, pleased its progressing well...
-
Ah good... Yeah, I will definitely pay them a visit when I get the work done. My car is SORN at the moment and will be for a while unfortunately. Hope all goes well with the repair, looking forward to the progress.

Looks like good progress here. The penny has just dropped but I think I have parked next/near to you a few times in Tonbridge Sainsburys car park a couple of times when going up to London, not for a while though. Mine is a G60 the same colour as yours but with 15" RS's. Don't know if you've seen it? Who is doing the work for you? Anyone local to Tonbridge? Want to get full respray sometime next year, recommendations are welcome.

For that split in the hose, I think you may be able to use "stretch and seal" self amalgamating silicone tape. Forms a cured bond between the hose and tape to seal. Seen it in my Demon Tweeks catalogue. http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/Product.do?method=view&n=422&g=2184&utm_source=Google&utm_medium=Base&utm_campaign=Motorcycle

I echo these sentiments. I always think it is a shame to see any decent condition car get broken up no matter what it is. Only the lower condition cars are really suitable for breaking really. Personally I think you should swap back any modded parts with standard parts, e.g. brakes, wheels etc, where possible. Things like the charger, rad, pump are standard service items and would be looked at positively come sale. I would find a happy medium between modded and standard, but don't break....

Clay bars are not to be feared in my opinion. Plenty of Quick Detailer/lube and there is no problem, it is honestly like there is no friction between the paint and clay. You will of course need to polish and wax after though. It is of course worth trying the other suggestions but sap and contaminant removal is what clay bars are all about as far as I'm aware. You will feel the difference on the surface and I really doubt you will damage it.

Is it harsh to say he deserved everything he got?

I ordered grey leather dye from furniture clinic and paid for the colour matching service (£10), the code on the bottle is (my surname)grey20 (from memory).
