  3. The worst you will do is wind the tube out of the oil cooler. Once you have the filter off you can clean eveything and re-assemble it. This used to happen eveytime on my Golf, after I removed the std oil cooler. Make sure you oil the O ring before screwing up the new filter. A strap is the best choice unless you have an oil filter socket. Gavin
  4. I have recently changed to redline oil in my box, which made no end of difference to the shift of my syncro. It used to be really reluctant to go in any gear when on the move. Gavin
  5. Get with the program!!
  6. I think Henny had his box rebuilt with 1st and 2nd from a VR6. He also has an LSD fitted. he'd be a good one to ask. Gavin
  7. Henny isn't using a std crank. AFAIK. It might be a std one from another dub but with the money he has spent that might be wrong too. Gavin
  8. That's more encouraging Steve. Gavin
  9. So g-man, whats the score? I was considering a return removal but as my mpg is unbelieveablely low I wouldn't want to make it worse.. :| Is it just the change of driving style/ Gavin
  10. Henny, Jim Cotton used to do valuations. He did one for me a long while ago. I'lll ask him next time I go in. Are you in a rush? It might be a few days.. Or you could email him and mention my name? Gavin
  11. Even the slightest change in camber will alter the tracking. Which will run your tyres off if uncorrected.. I can never remember which toe has which effect but tracking should clear the problem. Gavin
  12. I have a known good knock sensor if you are interested Garry. Firstly I'd undo and retorque the one you have just to be sure. In my experience the BEs knock at about 2K. When I did the ones on my Golf at 100K someone had already done 3 of them? So IMHO they can go anytime, especially with infrequent oil changes and chip changes. At 10 quid and a couple of hours, it would be worth doing them to eliminate them from the list. You can re-use the rod bolts/nuts once as per the Bentley but if you are doing big numbers then maybe another 20-25 would be money well spent on news ones. Gavin
  13. The relay is easy to change. If I have read ETKA correctly it is the one in position 3 on the main fuseboard. Part number 165 906 381. The fuel pump relay which might also be a culprit is in position 12 part number 191 906 383C Gavin
  14. Did it cut out when you dipped the clutch or whilst moving in gear? If moving in gear then maybe the tickover is set too low and teh ISV cannot catch it before it cuts out. If it is dieing on the move, I would be looking at the ECU relay and the hall sender in the dissy in that order. ( purely for cheapness) The relay often fails thru old age. I have seen more than a few with bad joints inside. You can buy a new one or take the lid off the one fitted and re-do the soldered joints with a soldering iron. The relay is common with other digifant engined VWs which may help you getting one from a scrappy but they are not expensive to buy new. The Hall senders often breakdown intermittently before quitting forever. Often they come back to life when the engine has cooled down. gavin

    Fuel!

They tywrapped the probe to the heat shield. It was in fresh air so the ECU thought it was running weak all the time hence the tragic consumption. Gavin

    Fuel!

I'd say the lambda probe or the blue temp sender is Donald ducked. My mk3 16V had to be driven like a nun to get 30mpg. While changing the suspension I discovered the previous owner who had a 'Rage' back box fitted(says it all  ) also had a bypass pipe fitted. The comedy exhaust specialist hadn't bothered to put the probe ito it. So when I fitted the empty cat from my G60 Golf on there, with probe installed I got an instant increase of nearly 10mpg. Gavin
  17. No one more gutted than me that it split. Except the mate of mine that was driving it at the time. He had it to patch the roof up. He rung me up with a sheepish tale about how he only drove it a mile from work to his own unit. I just laughed, no point in getting wound up about it. less than 40 for a new one and my mate fitted it so I never even got mucky. My own fault for being a tight Yorkshireman  Gavin

I usually make them as I need to. However, in anticipation of a rush I have got 10 in 'production' at the moment. Headlight bulb is H4 spot H3 sidelight 4-5W cap bulb not 100% on the part number Gavin
  19. Henny, you did yourself a favour giving me that old waterpipe and buying a new one. The chuffer was the scource of my 'headgasket' problem  A pinhole was squirting water onto the HG, and it looked like it had gone for sure. Gavin
