I would say so but I haven't any personal experience myself. Gavin

You will need to drop the subframe to get the DP out. I don't thijnk new calipers are too dear from GSF. Although a scrappy would be cheaper. Assuming its a 16V you could use calipers from a MK2 Golf 16V 88 on or most Passats from 88 0n that have vented discs. Gavin

Physically yes, there are probably detail differences in the spring and dampers settings. gavin

Looks reasonable and is in your price range. Would be good if you could get some of the gear back of your old motor. Gavin

Trying to decide which of the following to get: Corrado VR6 + LSD Clio Williams 1 Porsche 944 S2 Maybe Toyota Corolla GT (AE86) I'd have another Twinny any day. Only downside is finding one that doesn't look like it spent 10years under the North Sea. Bulletproof, if not exceptionally powerful engine. 8000 rev limit. Comes as standard with an LSD fitted. Proper 14inch wheels on the later facelifted ones instead of the comedy 13s of the early type. The biggest bomus has to be that Janspeed do a 4-1 and an exhaust that makes it sound like a MK2 Escort! The only complaint that I had with mine was it's massive appetite for rear discs! I swapped it for my first mk1 a W reg small light model, which had spent 11 years under the North Sea. That's another story though............. Gavin

Rack, I'd say get yourself etka, then you can cross check the numbers yourself. You can always post up here for a number. Plenty of folk will help you out. Cheers Gavin

Nah, 2 minutes, you will need a deep 13mm socket or a ring spanner to do it right. Tha's all though. Gavin

Try http://www.allnightlong.couk for a cure????

You need to take the weight off and tighten the thingy underneath then reassemble it all. Gavin
-
Could be a broken cable if there is no resistance in one direction. Or maybe it's just the 13mm nut that came loose. Gavin
-
Even if your timing light is donald ducked, if you tap the block hard enough the engine note will change as it retards the timing. Gavin

They are fitted to the 2litre 8/16V G60 and VR. Not on 1800 16V. Gavin

All the mounting brackets and stuff for the diff hanger and more would need to be fitted. I helped do one to a Corrado at Awesome. It would be the only sensible way of doing it. The rear floor comes out pretty good by drilling the spot welds. Then you have the rear suspension and everything lined up perfectly. Gavin

A 22mm master cylinder would bolt on.

You need to weld in the rear floor of a Rallye to get 4wd. Gavin

I have a pair of Passat hubs that'll do the job. He would only need balljoints and maybe wheel bearings to complete the job. Gavin
-
No they won't because the hubs are different. On an 8v the pad carrier is part of the hub where it is seperate on a 16V/G60/VR. To fit then you need the hubs from a late 16V Golf or other VW with 256mm brakes and vented discs. The ball joints are likely to be the wrong ones too. gavin

Cougar, I'd put money on it being the pipe that was the main cause of your original fault. In case you aren't aware it should be 1 metre long or the ECU gets confused by the pulses travelling up it. Gavin
-
Kid, its not 100% what you want to do. If you are changing the cambelt there is no need to undo the 12 point/bi-hex bolt in the middle of the bottom pulley. You do however need to undo the 4 allen bolts hold the bottom pulley. They are a 6mm allen key. If you round them out you can hammer an 8mm spline drive bit in to undo them. You will also need to slacken off the PAS pump and remove the waterpump pulley to get access to everything. Hope that helps Gavin

I can't claim copyright as I started making looms after a week's work placement at TSR  Gavin

The 10/40 I use is non synthetic. I am not sure what the old synta blue was/is, could have been 15/40?? Gavin
-
I had a 2 litre MK1 which gobbled up synta gold. A fella at Arnie Levics in Somerset pointed out that these engines were invented long before synthetic oils were common place and are not made to the same kind of tolerances as say Jap stuff. On his suggestion I switched to the old blue synta and practically eliminated oil consumption altogether. Recently I heard a tale about the 2 litre mk4 'GTI', VW sacked the 20V 125hp gutless wonder in favour of the old mk3 8V motor. A mate of a mate has one and the oil consumption is horrendous, like 1.5 litres per 1000. My mate knows a guy in the local VW service dept. He told him that as they left the factory with synthetic oil in, those figures were to be expected up to around 50K  Basically they just don't get run in as the oil is too slippery. Another mate of mine had a TT from new and was always topping it up. http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm Interesting link about running in, for those who can be bothered to read it. As all my cars, being old high mileage ones  , use oil, I just use reasonable quality but cheap oil and change it often. 4 gallons of 10/40 from Costco is 17 quid. I just change it every 3000 miles even in my Syncro. Being from Yorkshire has nowt to do with it. Gavin

There is no ECU reset on a 1800 16V. I think the 16V was designed to run on 98 octane 4 star not 95 unleaded. That's the reason for the pinking. VSAM and Kstar were invented to get around the problem by making the timing adjustable as you cannot 'chip' the ECU. You can retard the ign timing, use better petrol or fit VSAM/Kstar to eliminate this problem. Retarding the timing will lose you some performance. Using super unleaded, while it may cost you more to fill up may be worth the improvement in running and also gain a bit in economy. Fittng another piggyback ecu would allow you to use 95 octane unleaded and probably retain your performance and economy, assuming you can find one for sale. VSAM is not available new any more and I think the Kstar may be out of production too. There are other piggyback systems out there if you do a search you may turn one up. Gavin

We don't have any G60 autos in the Uk that I am aware of. I would suggest you check the engines basic settings, ign timing tickover and mixture. After that maybe the throttle switches and idle up circuit if there is one. Might be worth asking on http://www.vwvortex.com there will be someone on there with experience of your particular C. Gavin

We list only the valve kits for the Golf MK2 - not sure if they're the same as the Corrado ones ?? Our part number is 17855 £25.60 + vat I am 99% sure the valves are the same. The Corrado/Passat/Golf and Jetta of that era were all subject to the same recall. Gavin
