  1. It is called a baffle in VW speak. It stops the oil from running away from the pickup during cornering. I should consider it it essential as oil surging can total your engine. Low oil level no baffle, oil pressure coming and going. Eventually something will nip up. They go brittle with heat/age, if you bust it get a new one. I have an unbroken 16V one in my garage if needed. Gavin
  2. There are 2 part numbers for that clip. N 908 159 03 N 012 327 6 Both do the same job. Gavin
  3. Tattie, are both sides of the roof moving at the same time? Pretty sure the Bentley has the full sp on this. If moving bits on the cable are not in exactly the same place it will move assymetrically(big word). I replaced a cable on my MK3 a few weeks ago and it was an hours messing about to make it all work perfectly Gavin
  4. The only way to get more low down is with a 2 litre bottom end. However, as Kev points out, any significant skimming of the head will alter the cam timing and will require a vernier to correct it. As an example my old mk1 1800 with pack C head and 103 cam gained 10-15 hp by fitting a pulley and setting up the cam timing. I fitted the pulley and set it as per the std one. With some RR time, we got a solid 25 hp increase. when combined with setting the ignition timing. You could fit the pulley and adjust it yourself to see the improvement and maybe restore some of your lowdown go. Even with your 'butt dyno' you can feel when there is an improvement. Also the ignition on an 1800 C is fixed, you need VSAM or Kstar to get things 100%. I wouldn't bother with the fuelling but the ign is a must. I had VSAM on my C and it was night and day. IMHO You should consider the exhaust inlet cam mod to gain a bit more too. Gavin
  5. DanA. You stand a good chance of finding a MK3 golf controller that will do. Post the number on the one you have and someone can cross check ETKA for a compatible one. gavin
  6. You'll not get much response to this Q from the UK, as we don't have to fit winter tyres as a rule. Sorry Gavin

    Starting from cold

Try turning the key on/off a couple fo times so the pump primes the system. If there is a leaky injector letting the pressure drop away flicking the key will ensure there is fuel available. Gavin
  8. The DLVA sell plates cheap. I got mine H10 OVW for 300 fittted 3 years ago. Gavin
  9. http://www.ukaudioshop.co.uk have some reasonable prices. Gavin
  10. Nearly all the same components fitted on a 16V, mostly the same names too. Bosch have a good book, 'How to tune and modify Bosch fuel injection'. Very useful. The Haynes is pretty good too. You need the WORKSHOP manual not the repair manual. Gavin
  11. Throttle body only has 2 switches, one for a closed throttle so the computer knows it should be at idle and for setting timing and tickover. The other is a full throttle switch again for the computers benefit. Nowt as complicated as a TPS on a 16V. Overrun cutoff valve. When you shut the throttle at more than 1500 revs the ECU opens the cut off valve, this allows air to bleed around the plate in the fuel distributor. The Plate drops and cuts of the flow to the injectors. When the revs drop to 1500 the valve shuts and fuel is the allowed to flow to the injectors. It is to cut emmissions and improve economy. Can't remember about the DPS. Gavin
  12. Alex, the fuel pump should only run when the engine is rotating, except for when it primes. This is a safety feature to prevent fuel pumping all over when the car has been involved in a prang. The fuel pressure for a G60/VR is lower than that of a 16v. The difference due to the the fact it is the fuel pressure that opens the injectors on K-jet. A K-jet engine would run on a digifant pump but the low fuel pressure would cause problems at high revs due to inadequate fuel delivery. Gavin
  13. There are 2 places in Macclesfield that do custom exhaust, Tube Torque and JP Exhausts. Both have a good reputatioin. Blueflame in Skelmersdale also do one offs. They make Mongoose and also factory stuff for TVR and the like. Most charge between 3-400 depending on th etime taken. Gavin

    KR Cams

You only need the inlet cam as the exhaust cams are the same. Unless you want to modify and fit an exhaust cam as an inlet cam. I sold an exhaust cam a couple of months ago for 20 quid plus delivery. There are often heads that need rebuilding on ebay. You could buy one, pull the cams and stick it back on again. gavin

    Running rich

It's a 3mm allen key you need. I was talking about putting extra fuel in by adjusting more stuff than the usual. There isn't a reliable way of adjusting teh mixture without a gas analyser. You could check the plugs maybe but that is olde worlde. Gavin
  16. Oulton Park would be very hard on the VR6 mate... its very short and tight... the down hill section into the the chicane and up the hill is one of the hardest parts of the track and a nightmare to get it right... come off and you have a concrete wall  Scott are you referring to the short course or the long one. I have only done the long one in my Golf but I never had any problems with brakes or anything. Part of the attraction is getting it right. I don't, having been on plenty of other track days, think Oulton is any riskier than other tracks. I certainly prefer it to Castle Combe. Not may be a top venue for a first time out. If there is a day at Oulton, I'd turn up and act as talking ballast if anyone wanted their hand holding. Might even take the Passat out for a ride round. Gavin

    Juddering

Agreed, having suffered myself. Being in the electroincs trade I could never see a good reason for it happening but I was assured by Steve Pitt and also Darren at Gwerks that this was the cause. Cheers Gavin
  18. I really dig the knock ons!! Gavin
  19. Addition to Kevs post, could be a bad lift pump if there is one fitted. Gavin
  20. G60 pump is G60 only. I guess it is an upgrade to most pumps already. The americans use 2 litre pumps I believe. vwvortex.com would be the place to look. Gavin
  21. It's the cheap and nasty compromise, instead of doing it properly with individual matched components .... Have a close look at any manufacturer's professional install and show me the 6x9s in their car... ;) My Cerwin Vega 6x9s were 150 quid surely they cannot be called cheap and nasty. Agreed seperate speakers do the job better but they can be a fair amount of trouble to installl. Gavin
  22. I'd say do all the usual checks boost leaks, ECU pipe, timing. Check the Pulley, even take a picture of it for us. Most after market ones are alloy. On the std one you cannot see the little timing belt as it is covered.. Do a boost check on the MFA and post the results. A G60 may feel a bit tame as you don't need to rev it. I bet even a std one would show you a clean pair of heels on the motorway, which is where G60s come into their own Gavin
