  2. Thanks aide for the comments. I hope you don't find what I did too, that would be terrible :mad2:

  4. Hi guys. I'm back on the road now after not being able to drive it since October! It's been a while since my last update as the corrado has been keeping me really busy. Finally got the car back from the body shop where they'd sprayed the new metal welded in on the A-pillars but the quality was less than awful - it was bubbling in places and you could see marks under the surface caused by bad prep work, so straight back it went. Wasn't as if it was a cheap job either - £300 for the welding which was spot on and another £300 for the paint so i wanted it perfect. Here's a couple of pics of the car once they'd put it right Book1.pdfPicture 107.jpg[/attachment:3eba7sma] stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdfPicture 108.jpg[/attachment:3eba7sma] Then it was finally ready for the new windscreen. I could then get on with putting all the interior back together, which had been cluttering up the whole house for about 2 months  First the new carpets - my dad did such a good job on these they went in a treat ETKA Corrado.pdfPicture 120.jpg[/attachment:3eba7sma] The seats and door cards had been treated to a refurb whilst out of the car so I was looking forward to getting them back in and see how they looked and I was surprised how good they looked  stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdfPicture 119.jpg[/attachment:3eba7sma] Corrado92.pdfPicture 183.jpg[/attachment:3eba7sma] passat climatronic wiring diags.pdfPicture 156.jpg[/attachment:3eba7sma] So just as soon as it was all ready to drive again, disaster struck! Once I got the car running again after not being run for so long, within 10 mins of it idling on the drive I noticed the water in the coolant darkening. I took the oil filler cap off and found the usual 'mayo' which normally screams Head Gasket. I got on the the phone to a VW specialist I know and they said they'd take a look the following week. Luckily I found out that this can also be caused by the oil cooler failing. This turned out to be the case with mine. I think this may also have been the cause of the radiator starting to leak at around the same time. I had to have a new genuine VW rad as I have the D&G fan bracket installed I also picked up a few other things as the MOT was due... New Rad New Disc/pads all round New OIl Cooler (praying it was the problem, but not 100% sure) New spark plugs Over £400 on parts I also asked them to give the car an MOT and a full service Turns out they were right - it was just the oil cooler at fault after all  So, another £480 later the car was running smooth as silk again and ready for me to progress with. I was just thinking at this point 'What will break next?' I just ran it for a couple of weeks taking it easy to make sure everything felt ok and there were no more problems. I wasn't spending more on mods if it wasn't absolutely sound all round. Everything was superb - except for my 2 front tyres - they'd been the cause of an advisory note on my MOT. I knew they weren't great and I was expecting them to fail but the advisory gave me a good idea... As I could no longer afford any new wheels I decided I'd get my speedlines refurbed when I go in for the 2 new tyres. I'm not a massiv fan of them to be honest though so I thought about a colour change. I went for Anthracite gray in the end with Toyo Proxes and I have to say I never thought they could look as good as they do! I can't stop looking at them and everytime I walk away from the car I keep finding myself glancing back at them  Here's a few pics of them (The car looks really high but that's coz I havent decided whether to go for just lowering springs for now or get saving up for some DECENT coilovers) climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfphoto.JPG[/attachment:3eba7sma] 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfPicture 129.jpg[/attachment:3eba7sma] Picture 130.jpg[/attachment:3eba7sma] I'll get some more pics up tomorrow of the car in full view with these on Thanks for looking guys and as always, all comments welcome and appreciated, good or bad Kev
  5. Hi all! I've recently discovered I have the 'rattling diodes' problem in the Fan Control Unit, but unfortunately both have come loose and I don't know which way to solder them back. Can anyone shed any light on this? The fuse on top of the box had blown but for some reason my Revotec fan always came on at 92 degrees like it was supposed to, presumably just stage 1. The car never got too hot once I'd had these fans fitted... I'd just buy new but I've been ringing round and no vw dealers have any left in the country as the part became obsolete in 2008. The part number stamped on the unit is 1HO 919 506. I have seen similar control units for sale on eBay with extra characters on the end such as ...506A and ...506B. Would these work instead?
  6. Unlucky mate. Least it was only a small collision and not too much damage. Hope you can get it sorted without any trouble coz you've got a really nice example there mate. Love the colour :notworthy:
  7. Sorry to hear that mate. You're right though no way of knowing until it starts to show by which time you're looking at an expensive repair :( Insurance were spot on though to be honest (I had a chip or two that 'suddenly got worse' and cracked so they agreed to replace it without it effecting my no claims for £70. They gave me the contact info for a local firm who'd be suppling & fitting the new screen. I rang the bloke up and explained the car is getting on a bit so we'd like to take the screen out ourselves and get any necessary repairs done before he comes to do the fitting. He was well chuffed with that as it saved him the job of removing and disposing and it ensures he'll have a clean fresh surface to work with. He wasn't bothered about coming to verify the screen was damaged before he'd agree to fix it so out it came... I'll be watching him like a hawk when he's sealing though! No gaps being forgotton this time lol
  8. Just a really small blister underneath the paint, just starting to show itself creeping out the top of the rubber. Thought at 1st it was just a flaw in the respray (coz it wasn't a screen out job) so we ignored it for a bit. If your car doesn't stink everytime u get in it then I'm guessing you don't have a leak. Just trial and error with the hose pipe should be enough to reveal anythin wrong. I'm sure you'll get away with just resealing though. Good luck mate let me know how u get on
  9. Thanks guys. Found the carpet on eBay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Black-Original-Equipment-Gel-Back-Interior-Car-Carpet_W0QQitemZ190362683555QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item2c528008a3 We went to the premises as it's quite local to us to see it up close before buying and it comes off a 2m wide roll - although it's described as 1.9m in the advert :confused4: which is ideal length for the corrado. It's gonna fit together in 2 full length pieces. There are 2 overlapping joins : 1. near the front kick panel behind the accelorator pedal (so fully hidden), 2. in the outside corners of the rear seat upright. All the rest is hidden by the transmission tunnel. See pic - top left is the only join going to be visible but once the tape is removed it will be hardly noticible - unlike the original we removed glued right across the rear passenger footwell area  stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdfPicture highlight.JPG[/attachment:2suih60t] I'm not sure it's gonna be suitable for matts though as it's shiney gel backed so it could slide everywhere. We're gonna use my off-cuts to make a template for floor matts and take them back to the guy so he can use them as a template to make us some new custom matts with the corrado logo on (that's the plan anyway 8) ) Anyway thats enough about carpets lol I know you're all more interested in seeing the new windscreen surround... Nipped down to the garage yesterday to take some pics of the progress. Should be good as new round the windscreen area when I get it back... Corrado92.pdfPicture 018.jpg[/attachment:2suih60t] passat climatronic wiring diags.pdfPicture 051.jpg[/attachment:2suih60t] climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfPicture 008.jpg[/attachment:2suih60t] 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfPicture 052.jpg[/attachment:2suih60t] Picture 020.jpg[/attachment:2suih60t] As you can see the new metal is in but it's not finished yet. The guy still had a bit of finishing off to do (we arrived while he was right in the middle of it). I'll get some more pics up when it's painted before the screen goes in... Thanks for the comments guys
  10. Check mine out Dave. http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=87283&start=15 I really don't wanna scare you here mate but I definitely would wanna know if there was something like this lurking on mine ever again in plenty of time. I'm sure worst case scenario your's won't be anything like as bad as mine. Mine had a new screen at some point in the past that was never properly sealed. Good job I found it when I did or it would have gone beyond repair! I hope you don't have to look at anything this depressing on your new motor. I'd defo check behind the rubber and if all seems ok then you've lost nothing just gives you the peace of mind. But if there is some rust there best to find it sooner than later. Thankfully mine's in the garage now being welded and waiting to be sprayed.
  11. Hi guys, Time for an update with some new pics. Sorry to say but it's mostly bad news... I came across a leak a couple of months back in the driver and passenger footwell area. Only minor but still needed sorting. Had to get all the seats/trim out anyway coz I was gonna be refurbing the leather so out it came and carpets too. Only reason for doing this was there was a small tear on the drivers seat and the bolsters had lost strength so were a bit saggy. had them re-trimmed and bought myself a leather restore kit to use on everything else. Carpet smelt of damp and was looking a little tired so decided to replace with brand new - no point putting tatty carpet back in with refurbed leather. Anyway, after the process of elimination with the hose pipe we managed to pinpoint the leak to the windscreen behind the rubber - turns out the car has had a replacement screen fitted a few years ago but the rubber was never sealed 100% around. This is what we found when we took the screen out... Brace yourselves... stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdfIMG_0078.jpg[/attachment:g5sc14zw] Corrado92.pdfIMG_0079.jpg[/attachment:g5sc14zw] Luckily we're on pretty good terms with a local garage we use who say they'll do the repair for a couple of hundred and a spray shop can sort the paint out for another couple of hundred. My insurance are gonna sort me a new screen for £70. Could have been a lot worse if I'd not found this for a year or two so thats something to be grateful for I suppose. On a more positive note my new strut brace arrived this morning. Tried it on the car and it looks ace. Unfortunately though I can't put it to the test until I get the car back. Cant wait to get it back and just start enjoying it again. Feels like ages since I even took it off the driveway. Here's a pic of the strut brace... passat climatronic wiring diags.pdfIMG_0115.jpg[/attachment:g5sc14zw] Garage came a couple of hours ago with the tow truck. I reckon I'll be looking at a fortnight or so before I have it back. So, plans are as follows once I can drive it again... Fit the new carpets (already cut and moulded ready to drop in) fit refurbed seats/trim fit strut brace fit updated ICE Wheels and coilies are gonna have to be put on hold unfortunately for now :( Here are some pics of the carpets we're using... climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdfIMG_0103.jpg[/attachment:g5sc14zw] Just a case of placing the original over this and marking up where to cut... 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfIMG_0104.jpg[/attachment:g5sc14zw] Once cut we just needed to use the hair dryerfor a while to get the shape right. Once nearly there we were able to offer it up and make any further adjustments in place... IMG_0105.jpg[/attachment:g5sc14zw] The carpet was really easy to work with and on the surface loooks identical to the standard one so a good alternative in my opinion. Only cost £30 for 2 rolls. I bought an extra 1 for the boot but that'll be sometime off yet... If anyone wants to know where we got it from let me know and I'll pass on the details to you. Thanks for looking

Bit off subject here mate I know but I've just been having a look around ur car and couldnt help but notice u have the 9" Borbet A's on the rear. did you have any issues getting them to go on i.e. did u have to make any adjustments? I really like them but I can't convince my dad to let me get some coz he thinks they'll be too many issues with getting them to fit. Hopefully you can enlighten us? Cheers

Absolutely gutted mate. Prob wouldn't have been that bad but the screen was never seeled properly so this was inevitible I suppose. When we took it out the rubber hadn't been fixed all the way along. Very poor job! Yeah defo needs cutting out. New metal round whole thing then sprayed up good as new. Can't cut corners on a job like this it's gotta be done properly to stop it ever coming back. Not sure if vw sell a pillar panels I'll have to get in touch and get back to u on that 1. Hope you guys don't have a shocking discovery like mine...

Took my screen out on Friday after tracing a leak back to it and discovered it was very rusty, full of holes! Same thing dodgy fitters replaced it in the past, wrecked the paint then left it to rott. Rang my local body shop but they can't give me a price till they see it. They gonna come round next week to take a look. I'll get some pics up later on today of how bad it is. I'm expecting a bill of about £1000 inc re-painting...

    Cause of Leak?

Thanks John, think most of the water is coming in through the windscreen seal, found a puddle later on after using the hose pipe to try and find it,took a while to work its way in though. Im sure the hole should be blanked off somehow.

    Cause of Leak?

Hi all, Me and my dad have been working on the c all week trying to get the seats refurbed and the manky carpet replaced. The carpet had to come out coz it stunk of musky dampness due to the heater matrix going before I got the car :pukeright: . It has been repaired but the floor was still wet and car kept filling with condensation. While everything was out we had a good look round and came across this hole through the bulkhead in the passenger footwell area. It's about 28mm diamater. I'm sure it must have a grommet in it or something as it seems strange that everything else round there is well seeled. If there is a grommet missing does anybody know the part number and if they're still available? IMG_0076.jpg[/attachment:1vdql3o9] We've replaced foliage cover seel and left it for a few days in which time there's been a fair amount of rain and we've ran the hose pipe all over the car and nothing seems to be getting in. Wanna get the new carpet in but only once i'm sure there's no chance of a further leak Thanks for your help Kev
  18. Cheers aide! Well I doubt I'd be making much progress if my dad wasn't interested too. He's doing the majority of the research on the technical side of things and I'm sorting the mods so together we should be able to get it right as long as we can keep agreeing on things :) Progress will be slow but very thorough. I'll keep updating this thread as we go along. Thanks for the comments everyone!
  19. Thanks mate. Had a go at cleaning up the manifold couple of weeks ago. 29082009442.jpg[/attachment:1jhesf20] Still abit grubby on close inspection but a lot better than it was. Maybe a fully polished one is something to think about...
  20. Cheers mate. Yeah can't wait for next year's shows. I was at Tatton park and Awesome this year but I'd only just got the car then. I've got a pic of it at Tatton ... 254.JPG[/attachment:322z4xsx]
  21. Yeah you're right about the rear lights I'm not a massive fan of them myself but I think I still prefer them to standard so they'll have to stay for now. The front grille is slightly damaged (due to us having to get the bonnet open as the release had stopped working. Fixed now but couple of clips broken) again though I do prefer it to standard. Ideally would like to get the eyebrow grille colour matched. Can't argue with you on the brakes though you're spot on. Defo need upgrading before I do anything else performance wise. It's had new callipers on rear. I was thinking of new callipers on front and new disks & pads all round then can still get speedlines back on for this time of year...
  22. Ta very much millerman. Just avin a look round your car. Looks great love those wheels
  23. Hi everyone Thought it was about time to upload some pictures of my VRIt's an Aqua Blue VR6 with 131000 on the clock. It's not a daily runner so we're (me and my dad) are taking our time with it It's had a brand new engine at 85k and a full respray back in JuneLet me know what you think... Really happy with it for now but sometime in the near future I'm gonna be on the lookout for a few things. Milltek exhaust for starters, a decent set of coilovers (may need some advice on these), some nice wheels (speedlines are ok but mine aren't in perfect nick). Here's a pic of the new reg (sorry it's in the dark) 17092009448.jpg[/attachment:3kevyv6t] Thanks for looking. Any comments much appreciated Kev
  24. Thanks for the advice fla! Got it booked in for a full service on Thursday with Volksmaster in oldham so I'll wait and see what the damage is. I'll just not use it 'till then. Shame. I'll let you know what the score is with it. Cheers mate
  25. Hi can anyone help with this? Just bought a VR6 and have experienced overheating. The needle was showing 110 degrees but the warning light began flashing. The oil temp was showing 126 degrees! This was only for a 3-4 mins as I was very nearly home at this point. I realised the fans hadn't come on (they had been doing so far but sounded rough). After investigating I realised the fans were jammed and would only turn with considerable force by hand at which point pieces of alluminium swarf began dropping out from the secondary fan's centre. The fans then began to work and were considerably easier to turn by hand so I presume the bearing has had it? Are these fans still available or has anyone fitted a Kenlo secondary fan? Also could anyone tell me whether I'm likely to have damaged anything driving at this temp? Thanks for your help
