Portent

I popped to my local VW dealer yesterday. It's a sharp immediate left just after a roundabout. Luckily I'm always careful when entering it because I'm paranoid some idiot will smack into the back of me as I slow down. As I came off the roundabout I checked for cars behind - nothing - then indicated and slowed. As I checked my mirror again a ruddy great big merc came off the roundabout fast and I could see the driver was looking at something to his left. God knows what he was looking at but it certainly wasn't the road. The look on his face was priceless as he suddenly realised he was about to hit me and did an emergency stop (even heard the tyre screech before his ABS kicked in). I could see him thinking "craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap!!" which wasn't far off what was going through my mind. I just about had time to lift off the brake so I carried on rolling a few more feet, giving him a few more inches to stop. By now his grille was so close it was no longer visible out of my window. I had another close shave the other day while on the motorway. Someone pulled off the hard shoulder straight onto the motorway at about 20 mph without getting up to speed first. That was my turn for an emergency brake and swerve. The standard of driving in this country is definitely getting worse. It's like people have no anticipation of other drivers. I suspect that modern cars make you feel so cushioned and cut off from the road that people just stop thinking and drive as though the car will make everythign safe for them. I'm going to have to get a nugget next, just to make sure others can see me on the road.

To be honest I'd love one. I've been tempted by a couple of schrick's recently but getting the interior sorted out was a higher priority for me. A few minor bodywork issues are probably next on the list. I already have cams and a remap and this would make it the perfect NA setup in my view. Also it's not just about pure performance (the Corrado isn't that quick anymore - if you want speed then buy something else). What I like about the schrick and VSR are the originality and rarity factor. I may well get one at some point, funds permitting. But I'd certainly not pay this price for it and I have other items on the car I want to get done first before any engine mods.

I quite like the colour and the wheels are great. However... "the interior lets it down" Replacement 2.8 engine. The engine's a bit green. A touch msty inside - matrix?

I can't offer any practical advice but just a little moral support. Don't dispair. You'll get there eventually.

I popped along to the Pistonheads Sunday Service today. It was around the corner from me at Mercedes Benz World in Weybridge right next to Brooklands. I had the kids in tow which meant they were bored after 2 nanoseconds so all I managed to do was have a quick look around, chat to a few people and wander off home again when it started to rain. I've got the builders in doing some work on the house (father and son). The son sees me in the garage getting some plastic sheeting and spots the car... "Is that a Corrado? Looks lovely. Bet that's expensive. VR6 too" :)

I can't see anything on the wheels themselves but they were apparently off a mk3 anniversary. I just dis a quick Google and it came up with an ended eBay sale: http://item.mobileweb.ebay.co.uk/viewitem?itemId=220833072831&cmd=VIDESC&title=Description Looks like they are 7J et 43 from that link. Recaros not yet wired in. Took a look at the fuse box and wanted to do some more research before wiring them in. Want to do it right. I know its only two wires but as can probably be seen I'm an amateur when it comes to cars so taking it slow and steady while I learn. But loving them so far. They are superbly comfy. Worth every penny :) Replaced the rear VW badge with a much better condition one today. I'm getting really quite attached to this car.

Hmm tempting. I got a spare set of speedlines with the car when I bought it. I could pop some winters on them for the bad weather. Mind you I'm not too sure how I feel about exposing her bodywork to snow and salt.

Wow another grey owner just around the corner from me :) I'll probably get there around 10am. Just wondering what time people were planning to get there as we could meet before at Tesco's next door and then wander in together to try to park as a Corrado Collective. Just a thought :)

Sure they were 15's? Seems a bit small to me. Think mine are 17's (mk4 4mo) and I bought it as an ex demo car from VW when it was 6 months old.

They might look mint but I still haven't had time to wire them in so I'm driving while sitting at a really odd angle :D I have tomorrow off so hopefully I'll get time to fit them properly. How do I find out the width and offset? I have no idea when talking about wheels/tyres as I've only ever bought 100% standard cars and this one came with the wheels on. If it helps they were apparently from a mk3 GTI Anniversary (I think).

If you're really stuck I have an used MAF in my spare parts box. I grabbed it in case of future MAF issues myself but you're welcome to pop it on as a test to see if it resolves your issues. I'm also in Surrey (KT10 postcode).
