  1. I give up , I surrender !!! After the car starting every time , it's now back to a non starter yet again . Time to get an auto electrician on the job I think . Going to give him the manual ask him to check every single electrical item related to fuel , ignition and alarm . I have to walk away from it now I've never known a problem to give me the hump so much .Yours extremely frustrated and pi@@@d off Rob
  2. Thanks Mofish , everyone gets the love back , they cant help it !

  4. If you buy the replacement pump , be aware that early senders do not fit . If your car is 93 onwards you will be fine .

  6. I went to devon dub shack to pick up a coil on the way home from work today . Connected it up and the car has started every time so far . As this has happened before all i can do now is to start it in the morning and when i get home from work . I still need to test the fuel pump connector and that will be done on sunday . Dare i say its sorted ? nah not yet ! Rob
  7. My coil is a bit suspect , so I'm after another one please . I'm not 100 percent my coil is playing up so before I go and spend out on a new one I thought I'd try a second hand one first . Thanks Rob .
  8. No chris we ran out of time , I will check it , so I can rule it out . Not sure that that would cause the engine to start one minute and not the next though ? Rob
  9. The gap between the body and the bumper does look a little larger than usual . However I can't see how it can change ? The bumper slides into its guides and is not adjustable .
  10. That looks like a very nice car you have there .
  11. Ok so today Rog came over and we had a look at the car . Unfortunately the vagcom lead was for a later car so we could not use it . the only thing we could find was a dodgy reading from the coil , it may not mean its broken but im not 100 percent on it . Cleaned other ignition related leads and tested the hall senser which appeared to be ok .So other than getting a second hand coil and fitting that im still at a loss really . I dont want to get a new one for the sake of it as they are expensive . Many thanks to Rog for sparing the time to come out and help me using the multi meter and check various things was great to meet you . Rob
  12. Ignore this I forgot Rog was posting it up !
  13. As above I need a reading from an early dizzy Vr. Me and Rog tested mine today and it's reading 7000 ohms on the meter , the manual says 3000 to 4000 . Would be interested to see what others have a reading of before I purchase another coil . Many thanks Rob
  14. Thanks again Sean , keeping me fingers crossed for a solution . Rob
  15. Hopefully will try and make some headway tomorrow in finding the problem .Roger c is coming over armed with a vagcom , (thankyou Sean as it belongs to you ).I have my new multi meter , so fingers crossed we can find the fault . Hopefully it will not start as it may make it easier to find the problem . Nothing worse than an intermittent fault ! Nice to chat with you today Rog and many thanks for your offer of help , it's much appreciated . Rob
  16. That would be great Rog . When did you have in mind ? . Thanks for info , where is the best place for an earth ? . It was tested and came back with no faults . Then it went to a garage and the lamda came up . I've got a new lambda but I'm struggling to get to the nut ! Rob
  17. Can anyone give me the basics for using one please . I have looked online before i bought one and the tutorials were a bit sketchy . I got my meter this week and the cd that came with it as a user guide has a large crack in it .Im just trying to find out if there is anything wrong with the coil and other electric plugs that are causing starting problems . Ive looked at the manual , for example it says to check the coil , remove power lead and the one that goes to the dizzy . Place the meter probe in points 1-15 and it will give you a reading ,in ohms ,so if i set the meter to ohms i should be ok . I presume the negative is placed on an earthing point at the same time . Electrics are really not my thing , i bought the meter so i can try and do stuff myself instead of paying £70.00 an hour for an auto electrician . But having said that once you get used to using something its easy , i just dont wont to damage the coil or ecu , or the meter ! Many thanks Rob
