  1. Hi Dox , I was only going to put a lolly sick or something under the lip where you would normally operate it with your finger to increase the revs . I wouldn’t jam the butterfly open with anything.
  2. It’s a pita isn’t it Jim . I just pulled each plug from the dizzy separately and could not hear a change . If you take a cylinder away you must notice. I’m going to put something in to hold the throttle open above idle , I think because the idle is rough it’s hard to hear , but if it’s running around 2k I should be able to tell .
  3. As well as a hunting idle , I have experienced a loss of power / throttle?, last week . I went out in the car today to get some bits . After putting £20.00 of fuel in , just to make sure the gauge wasn’t playing up , I put my foot down and it struggled a bit . It was fine for the rest of the journey, putting my foot down produced no problems. I saw a vid on YouTube tonight, where the bloke was removing each lead in turn from the coil pack (in my case dizzy), he found the miss fire as one lead did not effect the engine .
  4. Is it possible to post a vid of it sat at idle Jim ?.
  5. Is the car pulling well with no loss of power jim , apart from the miss fire its fine ?.
  6. Thanks Mic . I'm sure i will find the problem , just need to keep on looking really . I cant expect much from a vagcom ,it is obd1 after all , so its down to me really . I forgot to mention i bought a new set of genuine mats as well . Oh and now she has new matching wishbones ,not one VR and one G60 lol.
  7. Well she flew through the MOT . Just the usual advisery on the rear wheel bearings , which were brand new , so they were nipped up . Ive been working on the car recently. Ive now replaced the radiator, crack pipe , thermostat housing ,thermostat and the blue coolant sensor . Im now working on a poor idle problem . Ive checked the usual suspects and had to return to the drawing board . Im sure i will get to the bottom of it .
  8. Later cars had longer bolts and a rubber seal I believe. Mine is a 92, so I have a the thin paper type gasket so I put a smear around the surface first .
  9. I can’t remember which one I bought . It may have come from Heritage or Ebay ?. As said I don’t think there’s anything in it with a part like this . I would recommend getting the rubber/cork type washer for the sump plug , mine came with a metal one which did not seal well at all .i nipped it up but I still had a drip , so I changed it .
  10. I think I will be clutching at straws otherwise Jim . I could spend hundreds replacing parts I don’t need until I found the problem.
  11. I suppose now I need a vagcom , as I’m out of ideas . The ISV has been cleaned. The ISV has been changed. I’ve had all the vac hoses off and there are no splits. I’ve cleaned the plugs to the vac lines . The MAF has been pulled whilst the engine is running and the note changes and it starts to stall. I also experienced a loss of throttle / power which I think was fuel related. I’ve fitted a new fuel filter. Obviously the new filter was dry and it took two turns of the key to fire, I would think this rules out the pump , if it was on its way out it should have struggled I would of thought. The FPR is only a few years old too. The plugs have only done 1500 miles or so . The ignition leads are 1500 miles too. Dizzy is fine and the rotor arm . I’ve cleaned the throttle body too, ok so it was still on the car but ive opened the butterfly and got in as far as I could. So I think the only option is now a vagcom check .
  12. My phone seems the same as using my Mac . The only thing that bugs me , is trying to post a new thread . I have to tap the forum logo about 6 times to get to the menu. It’s posting the pics that is the problem. I believe photobucket is still wanting to charge money to do it ?.
  13. I’m not sure what’s happened to your sender tone . It just slides on from memory?.
  14. Hi Fender. The FPR was changed a few years back . I’ve changed the fuel filter this evening. Thanks for the pump info .
  15. So basically a pipe to stop it splashing everywhere when changing the coolant?.
  16. I’m experiencing some spluttering problems at the moment with the VR. I’m not suggesting it is the fuel pump at this stage , I’m just enquiring on which one anyone has bought. Obviously I would stay away from the cheapies on eBay . The Bosch one looks ok . I’ve got a second hand later pump in the car at the moment, so no worries about swapping the float ( 92 pumps had a different float ). Any suggestions are appreciated. Rob
  17. I have the same problem at the moment. I removed the MAF and it altered the idle and stalled . So it’s working. The other problem that I’ve never had before is I had a sudden loss of power, I was only a half mile from home when it happened. I put my foot on the throttle and it spluttered and would not pick up, then it was fine again .
  18. Thanks Fender . I will check everything. I did remove the MAF plug , the engine spluttered and started to stall, so as far as I know it’s working fine . Once I’ve done all I can , if it’s still giving me grief, I will get my friendly mechanic to put it on the vagcom .
  19. I can only agree with the above. Obviously your pushing a plastic pipe with a rubber ‘o’ ring seal into a metal hole . It’s a tight fit too because it has to be.so make sure the hole into the block is free of metal burrs , before pushing the pipe in .
  20. I’m not sure what you mean Cressa ?. The Oem plastic part has a drain off plug .
  21. Hi Cressa . I replaced the rad , crack pipe and thermostat housing. I had a leak from the new housing, so I used the black sealant stuff from my friendly mechanic. It still leaked but this time from the middle pipe. I had pushed it on to the plastic hose housing to far . I pulled it back a bit and re tightened it . Job done .
  22. So I’ve solved my coolant leaking problem. I replaced the lot bar the pipes. The engine was fine before removing the battery. I’ve had the car 11 years so I know about the ECU learning the engine again .So I put the poor idle down to this . However it’s still bad . Ive changed the ISV but made no difference. Next is to check all vac hoses for cracks . Today though having sorted the coolant problem I’ve been out driving the car , all was fine till I was nearly home and lost all throttle response, putting my foot on the peddle it was spluttering and then it would suddenly gain power. So my thoughts went to fuel . Ive got a spare new filter, I think from memory I changed it five years ago??. The FPR is only a few years old . I’ve never had loss of power before. So I will change the filter and go from there . I did replace the fuel pump a few years back too , albeit a second hand part . Any more information would be appreciated. Kind regards Rob
  23. Interesting reading , an honest opinion , for what the product does and doesn’t do . Thanks Si .
  24. Let’s hope the problem will be sorted then Jim . My neighbors must think I’m nuts . The bonnet is always up , with me tinkering. It’s taken me three weeks to sort the coolant leaks .Then I go for a drive . Then the bonnet is up again with parts all over the place again lol .
  25. Hi Sean , nice to hear from you . If I was to get it done , I wouldn’t do it myself, I’d definitely get a professional to do it . Trouble is there are people that say it’s brilliant and those that say it’s a gimmick. Its a lot of dough to lay out .
