Word of Warning Regarding Chris Knott and No Claims Bonus..
Jim replied to Jim's topic in Chris Knott Insurance
I've posted in here in the hope that I might get a response from a CK representative but this does seem like it'll have to be the next course of action. Of course I can't PROVE that they told me they'd give me written proof of the additional no claims bonus so not sure I'd have a leg to stand on.. -
Word of Warning Regarding Chris Knott and No Claims Bonus..
Jim replied to Jim's topic in Chris Knott Insurance
A lot of places I've done insurance quotes with have allowed me to put down more than 9 though, so surely there must be a reason for this? If 9 is the absolute maximum that ALL underwriters take into consideration then fair enough but it doesn't seem that's the case with every insurer.. -
The Pixo is already supposed to be pretty bare bones in terms of quality! Not sure they could go any more basic really!

I'm sorry to have to do this but after cancelling my insurance with Chris Knott today, I feel I've been screwed on my No Claims Bonus. When I took out a policy two years ago, I had 9 years No Claims Bonus. Upon setting up the policy I discussed this with the person on the phone at the time and was advised that 9 years No Claims Bonus was the maximum they recognised however they could supply with proof that I had earned additional NCB with them even though it was not recognised by them... this would obviously would be very useful when moving onto a different insurer in the future. Naturally I was sceptical but went ahead with the policy. Lo and behold, two years on I've cancelled my policy as my renewal quote was not competitive and inevitably the chap on the phone has no idea what I'm talking about and I get fobbed off with "We can't do that sir..." - I'm not impressed. I should have 11 years NCB now, but apparently those two years have just vanished into a hole. So I just feel that anyone looking to insure with Chris Knott needs to know that if you already have what their underwriters consider to be maximum no claims bonus, you WILL NOT earn any additional NCB with them. Needless to say I doubt I'll ever insure with Chris Knott again.

Hahah... I wasn't looking to scrounge lifts folks! I only mentioned if you fancied a trip over Eric, just for a chance to take one of your fleet for a spin :) I can get the train if it's inconvenient or anything. But if you're free and a lift is available it'd be much appreciated :)

After reading so many posts from people who've not been 100% happy with R32 conversions (e.g. herisites with the flat spot issues, etc) I think I'd always stick with the 12v, even if there was a financial and power advantage in going 24v / R32!

I was just about to post the same.. thought these were £100 no more than a year ago!

The only model not to get its engine type as a badge was the 8v.. the others did all get 16v/G60 (supercharged)/VR6 badging.

It is quite rewarding but it's time consuming and, depending when you last did them, VERY messy. I've always tied a carrier bag over the brake disc / caliper so that I could go pretty crazy with the degreaser and the pressure washer and not have to worry about soaking the brakes. When you do it make sure you clean up right round the back of the petrol filler neck, and if possible take the rubber boot out completely. You simply would not believe how much muck comes out of there if you've never done it.

Watched "The International" yesterday.. had picked it up on DVD cheap and finally just got around to watching it. Pretty enjoyable, kept me hooked the whole way through and some pretty solid performances. Well worth a watch if you like a thriller! ---------- Post added at 8:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 8:21 PM ---------- Agreed. Watched it at my local independent cinema not too long ago and thought it was fantastic.

I had been using the Corrado for a few days for the (very) short trips to work but then had been deliberately taking much longer trips home (30 minutes or so) - but quite willing to accept it could just be the short trips that have caused the mayo. Will be keeping an eye on it now. And yes - OK for DG mate. Daniel is taking his Scirocco in for an MOT the same morning and we're getting the train back. Heading up there Saturday morning to pick the car up again though if you fancy an outing?

Bitch wagon?! What are you Neil... DCI Gene Hunt?! :) No chance. I had forgotten how thirsty the VR! Am quite used to high 40's / low 50's MPG now!

It was only a little bit - a light glazing. Car is off to DG on Friday, so will see what Graham thinks.

It gets worse. I mentioned I didn't think my engine sounded as sweet as it has done for a while including sounding a bit rough from cold and various weird noises. I popped over to the lockup today and thought "I really must check the oil" having not done it for a while. To my horror there was no reading on the dipstick (other than a hint at the bottom) and I topped it up with what must have been 1.5 litres of oil. And there was mayo on the oil cap :( I mildly concerned I've done long term damage to my engine by not keeping an eye on the oil level :( I'm so ****ed off at myself :(

This seems to come up on an pretty much yearly basis! The lead is an Ignition Reference Sensor and is used to detect knock in the engine. The car would most likely run fine without it fitted but like so many thing that people think aren't important, VW put it there for a reason! Fitting it is a pain in the backside. Genuine VW leads (and most good quality pattern ones) allow you to unscrew the plug at the distributor end so you can slip the sensor loop over the lead.. lots of cheap pattern leads don't allow you to do this. If nothing else, worth ordering lead #4 (I think you can buy them seperately) from VW so that you can get the lead fitted. I went through a load of aggro on my last 16v trying to find non-genuine leads which allowed you to fit this loop - did eventually find one AND forked out a ridiculous amount of money for a new reference sensor.

Challenge accepted... ;)

The Fiat isn't a long car but it's as wide as and MUCH taller than the Corrado! I could drive around wearing a fricking stovepipe hat cause there's so much headroom!

Depends what you want to spend I guess! Greg Howell is based in Southam and very well respected in the VW scene - but he'll need your car for a long time, and he's really not cheap. But he does an excellent job. Tempest used an independent guy based in Nuneaton to do some paintwork on his prized MK1 Scirocco and the guy did an excellent job. He quoted me for a load of paintwork on my Corrado at the time and was very reasonable. I can supply the details if you're interested?

Slight difficulty of me driving the Fiat and the Corrado to your place - can only drive one car at a time! ;) Would be good to take the Corrado out and stretch is legs.. perhaps on Sunday morning or something Wendy? Would make a good little Sprinter article.

Pah - it's a spring chicken at 170k! Any information in the receipts about it having the timing chains checked (or changed) ? If not, you should seriously consider getting them looked at... and budget about a grand to do it :(

Cheers guys... and thanks Wendy ;) Yep - coming up to Elsecar :) You mean scare me to death more like! ;)
