  1. Nice to hear that there will at least be one young VW technician who will know how to diagnose faults with their car, without the aid of a diagnostic computer! ;) We have a very helpful buyers guide which pretty much covers all you need to know, including G60 diagnostics: http://wiki.the-corrado.net/the_corrado_buying_guide_checklist.html Think you've been given a pretty unfair appraisal of the 16v engine - a well sorted one is a great laugh!
  2. Be interested to hear how it goes mate! Hope you haven't found any shockers whilst you've been doing various jobs on it, etc!
  3. Yep - what they said :) If needs be, get it insured, go get the MOT done and then just cancel the policy within the 14 day "cooling off" period.
  4. Insurance is getting to be a fricking joke! About time there was some serious investigation into what is going on.. I wouldn't mind but it's not like the Corrado is a valuable car any more and I'm sure it'd cost more to repair the average family hatchback in a low speed shunt than it would to write off a Corrado! Peter James do, I believe, cover some modifications so certainly worth giving them a call. Let us know how you get on - getting hard to find an insurer you can trust these days! :(
  5. Hm.. my bloke is on holiday. I'll call up a bit later and try order the bits directly..
  6. Indeed. A 2.8 engined Corrado is better than no Corrado at all. Besides, you're only a remap away from getting back to normal 2.9 power!
  7. If anyone struggles to source this part because they have an incompetent VW dealership, feel free to PM me. I'm happy to order any parts like this and supply (at your cost obviously for the postage) as my local VW dealership is tame and friendly :)
  8. You forget, Mr Monkey that modern small cars are actually enormous. It's certainly a lot shorter than the Corrado but it's REALLY tall. I could probably drive around with a stovepipe hat on without any problems!
  9. Good idea mate :) That weekend is a definite no for me as it's the Classic Car Show at the NEC. I don't miss that! Maybe end of November.. the last weekend is the Brazilian GP.. maybe if we find a pub, we could all head there after the RR day and watch the F1? That runs from around 3pm to 6pm meaning then folks could get home at a reasonable time even if they come from 2 / 3 hours away?
  10. Hey - at least my taste is in HIGH CLASS brothels mate.. you prefer the seedy, run down "motorhome in the forest" sort of encounters ;)
  11. The problem I find with the road bike is not my back, but my neck... cause you really have to lift your head up to see where you're going and after a long ride, my neck is rather achey! Kip is being modest too, Kev.. you should see how many miles he does in just a week out in Majorca!
  12. What a heartbreaker! :( As Pat_McCrotch says though.. onwards and upwards. Buy that back from the insurers, find a mint shelled Corrado (without the need for a respray) and get everything moved over? A lot of work but it's far from game over.. at least she didn't smash up the engine! Hope you get a good result with the insurance.
  13. Always loved the Campaigns.. yes, the colour combo hasn't aged well but I love them for their rarity! Would have one in a heartbeat :)
  14. I wish I had your resolve Kip.. I struggle to find the enthusiasm to exercise at all. It just bores the crap out of me. I really got into the cycling for a bit as you know and was really proud having done my first bike build earlier this year but the enthusiasm for that all has diminished again! It's frustrating :(
  15. Of course :) Looks reasonably promising thus far.. October is already looking tricky for me so I think I might look to schedule this into November when it's proper cold to help all you chaps with Forced Induction ;) Bump for any more interest.. I might also ask the chaps at the VR6 Owners Club along?
  16. Please stop reporting posts, manback. Alex has been a long standing member of this community.. you've just appeared, intent on having an argument. If you have a problem with Alex, deal with him personally - don't air your dirty laundry in public.
  17. Fool ;) I do lots of other driving - my work commute just happens to be short distance. I've already done about 600 miles in it in less than a month, and I didn't drive it for a week whilst I was in Germany.
  18. I have to say - after 3 years or so when the warranty is up, I'd consider coilies and some decent alloys.. I hear it handles like rails on proper suspension! :)
  19. Good point... it's that sort of outside the box thinking that I never get to grips with ;)
  20. Errr... really? What do they do on MK3's with the 288's... different space saver, or do you get a full size alloy spare only? Just I'm running 288's and never gave a second thought about this! :)
  21. Aye mate - I was just pitching in and suggesting that 288's are probably a more than adequate upgrade for most folks - certainly those only running a N/A VR :)
  22. I've personally never found the 288mm brakes I have fitted to my VR6 lacking in any way - they're pretty heavy duty and I think if you're struggling to keep the car on the road with those brakes on, you're simply pushing too hard on public roads!
