hi all my 1.8 16v is using water, ive checked for leaks and cant find any its had a waterpump, thermostat, expansion tank and cap,rad and a oil cooler.i borrowed a sniff test kit ,got the car warm then did the test.the fluid starts off blue and it says if it turns yellow ive got exhaust gases going in the water.my fluid turned a green colour, does this say headgasket to you.also is a metal headgasket worth fitting.bit worried that the heads been skimmed a few years ago before i got it
-
the drop links are unipart, could it be because the car is lowered.mite try and space them as you said.how did you do it.cheers

i think the headgasket mite of gone on my 1.8 16v kr engine.ive looked on ebay at head sets.is a metal gasket any beter than the standard type.my head has been skimmed in the past before i owned it.
-
just checked the water again and its fine, not sure about the steam tho coming out the exhaust when its hot.that says headgasket to me.
-
checked water again after a few mile and its fine, think it needs a good run
-
bleed the system 4 to 5 times when i was flushing the oil out, just hope its not the head gasket or thats my respray funds going again :(
-
cant see any leaks,it runs beter than ever :? .very slight miss on start up sometimes for 1 sec but it does seem to chuck out steam but not sure if thats the cold weather
-
ive not long changed the oil cooler on my 16v as oil was pumping into the water, ive flushed the system a few times to make sure it was clean.ive taken the car for a few small trips about 20 mile each time, keeping an eye on the water.all seemed fine temp not getting to hot,fan working when i left the car ticking over for a while and heater blowing hot air.so i thought great its fixed :D .went out in it the other night and the low coolant light came on.checked it in the day light to find its used close on 2 pints off water.could this of been air in the system or has the head gasket gone.carpets dont seem damp and couldnt see any water leaks
-
ive not taken mine off but 3m do a good tape,or try unipart they sell it also.just warm the tape up a little 1st before you use it
-
hi this weeks job could be the head gasket ,changed the oil cooler last week as it was leaking oil into the expansion tank.all was fine untill my water low light came on last nite,i didnt think to much about it because it used to be on when tank was full.i checked the water in the day light to find it needed about 1.5 pints.so wheres it going :mad2: .going to get it pressure tested sat and hope its a pipe leaking and not the gasket.its getting to be a right pain, every single week. :mad2:
-
nice job,wheres to tape from.
-
have you ever thought why the hell you bought a corrado, they are so unreliable.i seem to fix something on mine every week and spend a fortune on parts.ive thought do i sell it and buy a golf 20v turbo, but i bet if i did that would fall to bits.
-
fitted a valeo rad to mine,no probs with it
-
went out to check water and it was low, topped it up and heater seems fine now so could of been an air lock
-
ive had no end of probs with my cooling system, changed the oil cooler last week.since then ive been flushing the water out to clear the oil out of the water.i thought all was fine but could be wrong :( .the temp rises as it should and the heater warms up,but once the car gets to its proper running temp the heater starts to get cooler.could it be them valves just before the matrix, can these be fixed.it would be nice to have a week the car dont brake lol
