  1. wow, sounds interesting. hadnt heard. somehow golf and spyder dont sound right together. seems more of a jap thing. pics?
  2. dont sweat it too much dubster. ive worked at numerous shops (including vw/audi stealership) over the years which included engine cleaning. i washed engine bays of pretty much every engine vw/audi put out in the past 20 years. standard procedure: spray everything with degreaser. let it sit for five minutes (while you do interior or wash the rest of the car). blast the shit out of it with very high-pressure water. blow dry with air. maybe a little dressing afterwards. no covering or protecting wires. not saying this is proper.. but its the exact same procedure i was told to follow in.. lemme count, 4 shops at least that i can remember working at off-hand and i personally never had a car not start or run poorly after, that i noticed anyway! so.. that said.. when i do my G60, i degrease, wait a bit.. then spray somewhat gently being very careful to avoid all electrics. then use compressed air to blow everything off and pay special attention to electrics.. important. then start it up and run it around up to operating temps right away to evaporate any moisture that could have gotten anywhere. for electrical wires that in bad spots and likely to get blasted.. and after 13 years the wires are often brittle.. just unplug the connector and put it out of the way... then blow out both connectors with air afterwards before hooking it all back up to make sure theres no moisture.
  3. same setup as i have on right now.. still dont like it sitting next to the hot engine like that. a heat shield would surely help a little. i like the turn2 kit.. right down in the wing.
  4. ya i figured it must have come from the smashed campaign.. but what are the chances?? great find!! it reminds me of the red leather interiors they put into the raven pearl metallic 'le mans series limited' audi TTs. very so very nice rich silver paint with deep red leather interior. i love that car only 200 or so made like that i believe. i'd really like that campaign interior if it didn't have those purple stripes and the leather has a bit of an orange tinge to it which i could do without. still very nice no matter how you look at it!
  5. good work daz! make up a piece that will bolt to the charger, then a silicone hose (cuz of engine movement) then a pipe that drops through the cc hole. no box around mine please.. unless you'd like to make it more of a shroud directing air as i have my front turn signals out for a direct air shot and plan to make a shroud to jam as much of it as possible into the filter :rambo: sure you'd be able to move 10 or 20 units immediately after you release em judging by how much interest this.. and your work in general.. seems to attract.
  6. how'd you get a hold of a campaign interior..i thought there were only 6 of em?
  7. ive heard good things as well and im sure their gear is top notch. having trouble with the claimed whp increase from just a filter on a naturally aspirated engine is all.
  8. i hear that! i have two-tone calipers.. half red half blistered off

    what exhaust?

you could do it yourself no problem if what you buy is a direct fit. just need to get the back exhaust side jacked up and pop the old stuff off... which might be the onlyhard part if it has seized together. might need a torch. you could at least get under there and try it... and if all else fails take it to a shop.
  10. go to a bodyshop and see what they say. most of those guys can take one look at it and know whats up. ask around on this forum, names of good shops are thrown around in a few threads here too.
  11. im sure that its better than the stock airbox with a stock filter. but +13.5whp.. which is a 7.75% increase in overall power? not so sure... well documented.. ok, when you did the dyno runs were they back to back, no delay between? no ambiant temperature difference? did you have a fan blasting the shit out of the CAI? these are all variables that can make a difference of 13.5whp/7.75% if exploited and nothing is stopping you doing so (we all know that there are some real cocks out there.. not saying you're one of them). a hot engine vs a cold engine alone can make that much difference... so can a jump in ambiant air temperatures. did the stock airbox you dynoed have that dumbass snorkel still in there? were you using a stock paper filter? was the stock filter in the same condition as the cone in the CAI.. ie brand new? what other work has been done to the engine? if it has been modified to handle more flow then the gains seen on that setup will not be the same as a stock setup. i dont dispute that your intake is an improvement over stock but i really doubt that people with a modified box and k&n panel will see a 7.75% increase in whp on a naturally aspirated engine just like that by fitting an air intake. gains like this on a n/a VR engine are not easy/cheap to find. the numbers seem very suspect to me and a dynograph that i could draw up in photoshop in minutes doesn't convince me. again... not saying youre an ass personally but i know companies have done this sort of thing before. if i believed everything i saw on the internet i'd think there were orgies around every corner *que the music please* :afro: anyway.. my point isn't to knock your numbers..or your intake system. i swear by cold air and your design is bang on to what i want in my G60. my point was to say that the margin of increased power would be greater on a G60 because of the forced induction.. so it would make more sense if choosing to produce a kit for only one application, that you would do it for the application that would benefit the most from it. i would have no doubts about a 13whp increase on a G60.. i'd even believe 23whp increase at high speeds or with a big fan over a stock box sucking hot air. when i run my car in the dead of winter it amazes me how much quicker it is.. the heat really hurts the performance with the supercharger. but like you said, G60s are rare... i see VR6s all day long so it makes good sense from a business perspective to do the VR.. and we all gotta eat! apologies for the rant i'm bored at work and my car is sick so no fucking off for coffee break for me. make a G60 setup
  12. get a 2L with a strong bottom end... with 146k i dunno why the bottom *wouldn't* still be strong... and stick a 1.8L head on there. KR i think is the code. where's bluxie to chime in on how much better the KR head is??? ;) or better yet get a G60. 8)
  13. you serious? a cold intake charge is of even more benefit on a forced induction application.. i wouldn't expect the VR6 guys would even notice much of a difference at all (over a high-flow panel filter in the stock box) being naturally aspirated. i know of at least five G60 owners looking for this type of intake right now in canada or the states. i was thinking of having some made up to sell myself. we all just run some ghetto setup that works.. but doesn't look as nice. maybe its that G60s are far more rare so the market isnt as broad.
  14. very nice! do you make a kit that will bolt onto a g-lader and drop through the CC hole like that?
  15. sure you could get a pattern cut from vinyl as long as you had it in digital format.. not sure if any old vinyl will hold up to the heat though
  16. sorry.. little off topic. erm... my calipers are red. i like em.
  17. hell ya man. i'm picking up a shell next week, stripping it down completely, shaving everything and building it back up. no badges, logos, roof strips, rear wiper, side mouldings, side markers, door handles, etc etc.. hey if i was being realistic i'd shave the gas door too..with all the work i want done i doubt i'll ever get to actually driving it, who needs gas?? :D i'm getting an oettinger kit with it as well... still undecided as to whether or not i'll fit that. i like the stock look, i think i will just sell the kit.
  18. whats this... you can't get G11 anymore?? i use mostly water and i still have a full 4L G11 left.......but still! ..bluegreen is so much prettier than pinkred
  19. also flashes when its very full.. on my car anyway. i had a slow coolant leak that i just fixed.. but before i fixed it i would overfill the coolant a little to compensate.. if i went over bumps with it overfilled it would flash on.
  20. i've run fully synth since i got the car at 195,000km... no problems in the past 10k ive put on it.

    What Clutch?

get the VR6 spec clutch... no more money than the G60 clutch and more sturdy. like they say, you dont need aftermarket unless you're going pretty deep into mods... the VR clutch is enough for most people.
  22. ya they made the convertible...only a couple of them though. one is in their museum and either they sent one to zender or zender made their own. ya someone on here posted a pic of their project... even has me considering doing this to the extra shell i will have in a couple weeks 8)
