Right, been doing a bit more reading on the subject & now I'm not so sure it is the tensioner making all the noise! The noise is coming from the left hand side of the engine and not the right hand side like timing chain/tensioner noise. What could this be? Hydraulic tappets? The reason I ask is its not your typical 'ticking' noise associated with fecked tappets! Thanks again... :)

There's a weird noise coming from me engine! Difficult to explain what it sounds like, but from reading some old posts I think its the timing chain tensioner. I went to Euro Car Parts to get a quote and the guy there gave me a choice of 3 different parts. If I remember correctly, there was an upper and lower tensioner and a bolt tensioner on their system. Which one do I need to replace? Also, what's involved in changing the thing?! :) Thanks.

Pardon my ignorance, but what advantage is there in removing the carbon canister? :)

Hi there, Is there a 6 speed gearbox from a VW, Audi or SEAT that would fit my VR6? If so, what are the ratios like? Was thinking about taking my car to Stealth Racing & getting them to sort it all out, but just wanted to explore my options first! Cheers...

Cheers for that mate... :D Apparently there are two different Bosch chips that can go into the VR6 engine management system, but I'm not sure when or why the change took place! What chip were you thinking of getting?

I'm thinking about 'chipping' my VR6, but I need to find out the number of the original Bosch ECU. There's a number on the car's 'brain box': 021 906 258 AG. I put this into a search engine and got a result saying the ECU number should be 0261 200 469, does anyone know if this is right? If it helps, me engine code is ABV! :) Thanks...

Hi there. Got 'the' cutting out problem on my VR6. Been looking through some topics & it sounds like the problem could be caused by one (or more!) of a few things. Anyone in or around Glasgow got VAGCOM so I can track the problem down? Cheers! :D

Got a new thermostat housing and all the o-rings to go with it at the weekend. Changing it over today, so hopefully that'll solve the problem. Cheers for the help! :D

I think I must be the unluckiest VR6 owner in Britain! I've got every common problem going by the sounds of things; the car cuts out, my thermostat housing is leaking and I've got a passenger side internal water leak as well! Aargh! :D

My VR6 has been losing water recently, checked under the bonnet it seems to be leaking from the water housing on the right hand side of the block. There's three plugs & some hoses going into it if that helps... Is this a fairly common problem? Will I have to replace the whole thing or is it likely to be seals or summat? Cheers for any advice! :D

Yeah, I'm sure its the same box. Changed the gearbox in my 16V with a Passat one anyway...no problems so far! :D

Does anyone know where I can get a workshop manual for a Corrado? Apparently, Haynes don't do one & VW weren't any help when I asked them! Need to strip & rebuild my gearbox... Thanks.

I'm looking to get a stainless steel exhaust system for my 1.8 16V Corrado. Everyone I've spoken to so far has said they can do a system from the back of the first silencer box, but I'd rather get rid of it! Would I be able to put a downpipe from a Mk2 Golf GTI on & then get an off-the-shelf system to fit from there back? Are there any major differences between Corrado & Golf exhausts apart from the downpipes? Only other option would be to put the Golf downpipe on & then get a system custom-made... Help! :lol:
