There's always one! :)

My name's down...

According to the MOT computer system, my VR doesn't have a catalytic converter! Which is handy...because it doesn't...
-
Not sure about the hexagonal decals, but apart from that it's a nice car! Bloody annoying website though, how many popups?! :x
-
You could also try GPC. They list a G60 grille badge on their site for £5.50, not sure if they'd have any of the other ones though.
-
Any piston ring compressor should do, as long as the diameter can be adjusted to over 82mm. When I did my engine rebuild, I just got one from the local motor factors, wasn't expensive...

Fuel economy seems pretty good, average about 30mpg normally, and I've seen 35mpg on a long run! I'll check the wiring and connectors and see what state they're in. I've just had the ECU repaired, so I can take that out of the equation. That leaves the MAF, injectors or an exhaust leak...should keep me busy! Thanks guys.

Had my VR scanned on VAG-COM last night (big thanks to aclwalker for that!), and it showed the following error: 00537 - Lambda (Oxygen Sensor) Regulation 08-10 - Control Limit Surpassed - Intermittent The car occasionally cuts out when stopping at junctions and the exhaust pops quite badly on the overrun. Does this sound like a faulty lambda probe? VAG-COM did pick up a reading, so the probe isn't completely dead, but the readings were fluctuating outside of the permitted range. I had a search about and it was also suggested to check for intake & exhaust leaks and to make sure the MAF is working. I'm pretty sure there aren't any leaks, but the MAF is an unknown quantity at the best of times! Any help greatly appreciated before I spend money unnecessarily! Thanks, Andrew.

Yeah, it just threw me a bit when these things that look like salt & pepper mills turned up when I was expecting something completely different! At least I now know I've got the right bump stops for my VR.
-
Right, that's made my mind up! :) Cheers mate.
-
Just been on the H&R website, there's a technical section on there that includes information about trimming the bump stops. They suggest taking 1" off the front bump stops, but nothing off the rears. Would you guys still suggest trimming the rear bump stops or am I better off just leaving them?
-
Ah, I see! Is the bulbous section to the top or the bottom when fitted?
-
It's hard to tell. They're maybe not that much shorter, but they're certainly different! Did you order yours from GSF as well? Maybe the bulbous ones are the right bump stops for a VR6...
-
Sorry to resurrect this thread after so long, but I've got a quick question! In the first post, there's a picture of ben16v's rear bump stops. Are these 16V/4 cylinder specific, or should VR6 ones look the same? I bought a couple from GSF, and the ones they sent me are a lot more bulbous looking! I've got H&R springs to go on at the weekend and I want to make sure I've got all the right bits before I start dismantling the suspension. Many thanks, Andrew.

Cheers for that mate, I'll phone him in the morning! How much did he charge you, if you don't mind me asking?

I need to find a company that repairs ECUs, any suggestions or recommendations? Was thinking of using this company, but any advice would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks, Andrew.

This is one of my biggest pet hates! Was driving down to Coventry a few weeks ago to visit my big sister, and there was some dizzy mare driving in the middle lane of the M6 with her right indicator on as if she wanted to move into the outside lane. I (being the courteous road user that I am ), flashed my headlights at her to let her out, but she just continued to sail along, indicator flashing away. I overtook her and flashed my indicators as I passed, thinking she might take the hint, but no. WHAT DO YOU THINK THAT TICKING NOISE IS, YOU CLOTH-EARED BINT!?! I feel better now...

One of my mates used to have a MINI Cooper S Works, pretty damn good wee car! I agree with the 'midgets only in the back' comment, and parts of the dash are a bit flimsy, but it's a cracking engine and they handle quite well. A Cooper S Works wouldn't see off a VR either (he tried!), but there wasn't much in it. :)

Well I'll be damned! Glad you've found a solution Dutch, IIRC the ARB has a reverse thread on it, so it's anti-clockwise to screw the drop link in. Good luck! :)
-
Have you checked the ARB drop links? One of mine sheared a few months ago and the ARB was clonking on the wishbone and also rubbing against the CV boot. It could be friction melting the rubber?

It's insurance renewal time again! :) Gave Brentacre a call and I have to say I'm very impressed. Not only did they give me the best quote (£735 fully comp with all mods declared. I'm 24 with 3 years NCB), but it was so refreshing to speak to someone (John) who actually knows what they're talking about! I felt like he genuinely wanted to get me the best quote possible, and he made what is usually a very formal and slightly depressing experience into a friendly chat about Corrados. Felt like I was getting personal attention, Jerry McGuire stylee! Needless to say, I am now insured with Brentacre. 8)

Northampton to Glasgow, 339 miles!

Had to buy another replacement ECU after the first one was wrecked by some muppet trying to solder in a chip socket for me. Code on this one is 021 906 258 AF and it works a treat! No hesitation, no flat spots, and more importantly...no stalling! :D
-
I know! I had a big discussion with my old man a little while back about leaf springs, anti-tramp bars, etc. He got quite defensive!
-
Can't say I have. Mind you, I don't see very many Corrados at all up here! I was in Coventry visiting my big sister a few weeks back and there seemed to be tons kicking about down there.
