Black Rado (not sure of engine) heading into Tesco's in Alloa on Tuesday afternoon at around 4pm. Any takers?
-
Is the small, ridged pipe on the ISV damper pot supposed to be blocked off? The one I bought from the stealers was, and I can't help thinking its a bit strange...
-
Also 131k & a bit poorly! Just purchased another engine with 91k on it though... :)

Got a comment from the guy behind the counter of my local petrol station the other day, "Nice cars those, don't see too many of them any more.", at which point another Corrado pulled up at the pump next to mine! Perfect timing! :)

I'm planning to replace most (if not all) of the bearings, deglaze the bores, fit new piston rings, chuck new timing chains and tensioners in and recondition the cylinder head. Are the bores pretty much guaranteed to have ovalised then? If I need to rebore the block I'll need to start budgeting for it! :) Cheers, I'll drop him a PM...

Hi there, I'm looking to rebuild my engine fairly soon and I'm currently sourcing parts. Where's the best/cheapest :) place to get piston rings for a 2.9 VR6? I'm buying most of the parts from a company in America, but obviously they never had the 2.9 in the States so they don't keep the rings in stock. Is this a no-brainer, i.e. GSF or ECP? Cheers in advance!

I don't think he'd be giving it away, but I can ask him how much he wants for it if you're interested! :)

Got a Momo Millenium on my car (as per avatar) and couldn't be happier! Really good feel to it and it doesn't look too out of place. Me Dad's got a Millenium Evo sitting in the house somewhere, but I'm not a fan to be honest. He's also got a couple of Momo wheels that were an option on some sort of Renault around 1985. Look really nice, I'll try and post a picture of it later if anyone's interested. He got one of them off eBay for not a lot of money...

Got quite big plans for me Rado this year... Went to get a quote for some general tidying up (dents, rusty bits, etc.) from a bodyshop & it transpires that my car has had a not-too-great respray in the past. So now the car's getting a general tidy up and a full respray in the summer! :) Engine-wise, I'm currently pricing up parts for a full engine rebuild. Its nearly done 130K, I seriously doubt the timing chains & tensioners have been done and I've got at least one humped valve stem oil seal. Thought I might as well go the whole hog! My Dad's a mechanic, so we'll be doing all the work ourselves...wish me luck!

OK, we know your cars, where did your names come from???

When I was at secondary school, some people decided I looked like Tug from Home & Away. Remember him? Some people assumed it was for other reasons... -
Best of it is, my mate has extended VW warranty, but none of the work was covered by it. What does the warranty cover exactly?! Also, the cylinder head on my little sister's 1.6 Mk4 Golf started playing up a few months ago. VW wanted her to prove that the problems were caused by a fault with the head and not just wear & tear before they would cover the work under warranty. Took weeks of complaining to VW Customer Care before it was eventually sorted out...

I was visiting a mate in Aberdeen at the weekend, and he had to take his Mk4 Golf GTI in to the VW garage on Saturday morning for an MOT. They were already charging him about £40 for the MOT, which I suppose isn't too bad, but what happened next was... The service receptionist woman came over after about half an hour to let my mate know that his car had failed its MOT. One of the number plate lights was out and both headlights were a little low. VW: "9 times out of 10 you'll find that the number plate bulb holders are broken, they're £4.90 each + VAT. The mechanic will also have to put the car on a special headlight alignment machine, so there will be a half hour labour charge, which is £29." 5 minute argument between her, my mate and me then ensued, with my mate pointing out that it might be a good idea to check if the bulb holder is broken before charging him for it, and me telling her that I'm familiar with the 'special' headlight alignment machine and that there's no way it should take half an hour to carry out the work. She went off to speak to the mechanic and by some miracle, the bulb holder wasn't broken and he somehow managed to get the work done in 10 minutes... Can't help thinking that if we hadn't questioned her, VW would have been quite happy to fleece my mate for another £40 on top of his MOT.

Busy weekend of Corrado spotting! 8) Was in Aberdeen visiting one of my mates and spotted... Black G reg (I think it was a 16V) with smoked rear lights getting some work done in the VW garage on Saturday morning. I was in with my mate getting his Mk4 GTI MOTd. Blue K reg VR6 tearing up towards Union Street on Sunday afternoon. Also on Sunday afternoon, a Black L reg VR6 with cream leather, female driver... Never seen so many Corrados in my life! :D

Nice, eh? :pukeright: I especially like the...erm...headlight modification! Might have to invest in one of those functional bonnet scoops too...

Don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but when I went to a Powerflow dealer near me (MMV Performance in Stirling), the guy I spoke to wasn't even interested in trying to match up their exhaust to the back box I had in mind. It was all-Powerflow or nothing! I believe his answer was, "We're not engineers, we're exhaust fitters." Wouldn't exactly class it as engineering myself...
-
Seriously?! That's all VW want for them?
-
I think the final drive is different in the Golf gearbox, but it would fit a Corrado VR6 if that's what you're wondering...
-
You get a different cylinder head and exhaust with the JCW kit, although I agree £3000 is a bit steep! :)
-
129K or thereabouts!
-
I used to have a Mk2 GTI before I got the C & nearly had a heart attack when I was perusing the ECP catalogue. Bonnet for a Mk2 Golf is about £40 IIRC, for the Corrado its £350!
-
The Cooper S Works exhaust sounds really fruity, you can hear the exhaust gases rushing out of it when you're sitting in the back! :)
-
Yeah, they had the official John Cooper Works one then a couple of efforts from different tuning companies. I remember Clarkson saying the MINI was capable of handling extra power, but 300bhp was taking it a bit too far!
-
One of my mates has a Cooper S Works in said anthracite grey with a black roof and some rather nice 17" BBS alloys! Its a 2002 model with 200bhp. Feels strong in the gears, but I don't know how it would fare against the VR! :) I think the new ones have 210...got some new-fangled electronically actuated flap in the airbox that's supposed to increase air flow above 4000rpm...

I think so, they looked fairly big anyway. 6 spoke, probably TSW or something?
