Hello mate and many thanks for the offer of help I live a fair distance away down in south wales (. All seems to be coming apart ok so far. I have started to dismantle the insides to fix the column and the steering and indicator and all is looking no worse than expected thank god. Many thanks for your offer of help, maybe if I ever see the idiots that did it, instead of the usual group buys.... we could have a "GROUP KICKING"!!!!!! ---------- Post added at 08:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:13 PM ---------- Hello mate and many thanks for the offer of help I live a fair distance away down in south wales (. Many thanks mate, an alarm is definately on my list of things to sort when I can, I think the original and barely functional Clifford concept 50 may not have exactly detered the chav's but it stopped it starting!! I honestly cannot praise even the cheapest functioning alarm after seeing what can happen.. I have just sent you a PM. I cannot say thankyou enough.

Guys, You have all made me smile so much and I am so happy to be part of this forum you have all been amazing. I have only just been able to catch up with my post and I am just bowled over by how many of you guys are supporting me. To all of you who have offered parts, I honestly cannot thank you enough and it means the world to me that I may be able to get my car back and going again. I have had a look at the car again today and started to unbolt the parts that are scrap and I have to say in many ways how I feel lucky that the car didnt hit the church wall at an angle and only scraped it at speed. As for the low lifes who tried stealing it , they really are the lowest common denominator of wasters that just really are not even worth thinking about!!! All I can say is, I will happily be the first in line to promote a CAT 1 alarm group buy. Once again guys, thankyou.

Thankyou mate fingers crossed she will be shining again, I just dont think I can justify fixing it and keeping it now tho.
  6. Hi guys just a quick one are we putting our names down to attend if so count me in but not for the rollers I think my old girl would have a fit and it would be nice to drive back home again to wales :oP. I have recently managed to convert my mate to buy a VR Corrado and would be an great way to meet some of you guys and see all your hard work.
  7. Hi guys, I fitted a replacement gearbox into my VR6 corrado about 500 miles ago and since have had problem... after problem.... after problem. Firstly the car didnt select properly and I put it down to the rubber on the cable end being shot, so I placed it with an ally bush. The car when used would select all gears fine and then lose reverse and then first.... You simply could not select them (when the car had heated up), if left to stand selection was then ok again.....? I have checked the oil and that is ok. On inspection I have removed the two gearbox selector tower bolts but im thinking twice about pulling it out... :os. I have noticed that the plastic slider runner on the side of the mechanism is damadged/worn and looks like its allowing extra play in the gearchange. Apart from this sliding from 1st to 3rd on the level plain (operating just the arm does not feel fluid as the same trying to select reverse... Guys I am so stuck and do honestly not know what to do... Remove tower...? Leave tower....? Buy some matches....? Any help would be MUCH MUCH MUCH appreciatted (
  8. Hi guys I have recently rebuilt my VR6 corrado after my old gearbox failed and have to say she has been running better than ever with the exception of the gearchange... When connecting the cable change back together I could not help but notice that the rubber which secures the looped cable appeared to be missing a captive piece to stop it coming off, since I have attempted to use various washers which simply bind the gearchange until the bolt loosens and then gear changing is a bit.......fruity!!! Could anyone expand on my knowledge of the collection of parts. Eg... Bolt, ?.... (plate, washer...) Rubber, Cable end, ?.....(washer...) Captive nut? Any help would be much appreciatted guys as I understand how it needs to work, the bolt locking to secure the selected position but with enough allowance for the rubber to freely twist, but I get a feeling a trip to vw is needed for the correct bits and pieces. Many thanks guys )
  9. Hi guys and thank for the messages, il have to get out and see what some teasing can do ) ---------- Post added at 11:00 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:00 PM ---------- Hello mate thanks for the comments iv just sent you a message about your wheels )
  10. Hi guys does anyone know of the correct size tool or availability for removing the oil filters plastic housing? I have a few tools for removing filters but non touch it! I assume the o seal has completely dried up making it seem impossible to remove. Any tips much welcomed guys.
  11. Hi guys just been surfing the web in a spare 5 minutes and wondered if any of you have come across this youtube video, Its a clip of Kronenburg Tuning who offer a range of ITB's for a massive range of cars and different applications. They appear to have developed in house ecu's and appropriatte software to go with their own bodies, the whole thing looks and sounds great on the vr (shame the whole thing would cost about £3000!!!!!!). Has anyone seen or heard much about this or a vr6 on independant throttle bodies or an idea on power? Enjoy guys ).
  12. Hello mate whatever you do DO NOT leave this, I had exactly the same problem experianced problems one morning then faded off and then travelling back from an edition meet locked up and sailed into the back of my friends car!!! Im my opinion check over the calipers or in my case junk the originals and buy a complete 288 set up from a later golf for about £50!!! Its really not worth the pain and cost if left.
  13. Thanks guys for the posts will be on it asap as my sits you can literally shake if you get hold of them! Many thanks!!! ---------- Post added at 11:11 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:55 AM ---------- Just as a heads up guys two sets enough for BOTH seats £4.50 posted on ebay BARGAIN!!! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-RANGE-INCL-GOLF-SEAT-CLIP-SET-INNER-AND-OUTER-NEW-/170596535221?_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D5%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D220374657745450678
  14. Hi guys just wondering if anyone else has noticed excessive side to side play in your front seats? Im not sure if the seats are on nylon type rollers and they have disintegrated? Any ideas guys?

    Gear selection issue

Hi I have recently had a real problem with my gearbox. Its worth popping the gear stick surround (below gearstick and looking for play or anything catching). Also in the engine bay have a look at the linkage connecting points as one of mine had come loose causing increasing sloppyness. I would say check the linkage ends with regreasing and maintenance first. If you can get somone to run through the gears for you whilst watching in the bay this will often help illustrate whats actually going on and being transmitted to the selector mech. Good Luck :oD ---------- Post added at 08:54 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:50 PM ---------- Just had a thought when refitting my new box.... When bolting down the second selector cable in the engine bay, you have a certain amount of adjustment from side to side when loose and when done up does not move. When fine tuning my selector yesterday too much one way made first nothcy and the other way made fifth notchy. I think just a general check over will help things massively.
  16. HOLY ****!!! I knew I would **** something up!! After changing the gearbox and clutch etc on own I knew I would bugger something up! Thankyou so much for your post mate, I will check the big bolt down fuses and hope no serious damadge has been done tho I can see a cooked battery being likely here :oS.
  17. Hi guys just a quick one. I Have just changed and my gearbox in my VR and noticed that on start up the wipers increasingly became slower and slower. I knew straight away that the Alternator cant have been having an effect and it must have been running of the battery. A short time later it bogged the functions dies and it cut out. Its the earthing wires I firstly assumed that may have been causing some trouble....? To Recap. Positive battery to starter terminal. Negative battery to (to small earth point by washer bottle and large seperate earth on long starter motor bolt. I have noticed a black lead from the alternator with whats looks like an earth tag, (would this have an adverse effect if this had been put to the same earth point as the negative battery lead? Im really at a loss guy, I simply undid a few connectors and replaced them. I have checked the connectors for grim and the old girl isnt giving up any clues. This is so typical of my car to solve one problem and ten more are lurking around the corner. Please guys and help would be most appreciatted! ---------- Post added at 04:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:03 PM ---------- Hey guys had a scout through the posts and see the blue exciter cable mentioned... I had this apart but looked aok when putting it back together (, this is more mad as the car was aok before it was taken apart for the gearbox change. ---------- Post added at 04:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:21 PM ---------- Hey guys had a scout through the posts and see the blue exciter cable mentioned... 18. Thanks for the reply!! I have been reading bits and pieces and my concerns have been raised about running spacers in the first place. With 20mm rears (40mm) total track and 15mm spacers (30mm) up front am I likely to destroy my wheel bearings in a short time? Many thanks again guys.
  19. Hi guys just a quick one I luckily picked up a set of wheels I have wanted for a long time (OZ exclusives in 5x100 7j x 17). My firstly problem came about when the guy lied through his teeth regarding offset... Spacers bought for the back and when offered up in my blind faith flaired up another problem... bore diameter. Because the wheels are OZ (in Subaru fitment) not Subaru's own wheels I believed that they would have used a bigger bore to accomodate use on a variety of cars but this does not appear to be the case. I have offered my hubcentric spacer up to the wheel and clearly appears to me the 1mm out. I am obviously faced with one of two options.. either 1) Get the spacers turned down on the hubcentric locating ring by 1mm or 2) have the bore of the wheel increased by 1mm?? I have checked the sizing for the wheel bolts and it happily accomodates the M14 VW bolts with no need for drilling. Either way these wheels have been too much of a faf already and I can just see it getting worse by the minute!! Any advise guys would be much appreciatted or similar experiances shared. Many thanks in advance. :)

  21. I wish questions had been posted about this before you travelled mate, this is just down the road from me and it was bought to my attention by a freind who thought I was selling my car.... to add to the misery this car IS........................... CAT C.......................... SO PLEASE ANYONE BEWARE BEFORE THINKING TO BUY!!!!!! This car really is a complete shed and dont be swayed ny the rose tinted pictures. Sorry for your travel mate and if your hunting hope you find a better one soon!
  22. Absolutley FIRST CLASS, you have done an exceptional job of an excellent transplant, really hats off to you, not only to your speed but exceptional result!!!!
  23. I would say mate its always a balance between cost vs what you want. I opted for uprated bilstein shocks with eibach springs with a modest 30mm drop and I have to say im so happy. I just dont believe that a cheap unit (£32.50 a piece) that is infinately adjustable between say 30-100mm drop is ever going to give a decent ride unless it is dropped to the floor and firm as anything. If JOM offer a two year warranty on something that is that cheap it is a bargain and I think is great as long as your expectations regarding ride and longevity are not too high. I would say although with a fixed springs and dampers you only get one ride height you at least dont get a unlimited amount of adjustable dodgyness. Iv opted for Bilstein B8 shocks with Eibach Pro kit springs and it is THE BEST thing I have ever bought. If you plan on keeping the car I would say buy right and buy once, I know people have bought the cheaper coilovers and fair play to them I just dont think are the best thing to buy on your budget. Happy Hunting!!!
  24. Hello mate and thanks for the reply. After your comment in thinking, New, Top mounts, Track rod ends and inners, Bottom ball joints. Then... look at the colomn :os. The wheel bearings are all ok with no signs of excessive wear. Its just such a shame that the poor steering ruins the drive of the car as a few of my freinds have effectionately named my car "the longboat" (. Have you still got your adjustable steering colomn or gone for the fixed? (jusy to check its the 6N polo one to retrofit? Many thanks for your comments guys really really appreciatted. ---------- Post added at 03:18 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:17 PM ---------- wishbones are a possible point as the suspension is new and might be showing the floors in the rest of it!!!
